Is that the daughter of former pairs skater Zoe Jones?

It is indeed. And you would know it when you see her. Both Zarah and twin sister Zinia are so like their mother.

Zarah Wood and Alex Lapsky are actually coached by Zoe Jones and Chris Boyadji. Zoe and Chris seem take it in turns to accompany them to competitions. Well, somebody has to stay at home and look after the rest of the kids while the other is away! It was Chris that was with them this week.

I admit that at first I thought Chris was a bit young to be taking on the role of step-father to teenagers. But he has really come into his own in this duel role of step-father and coach. You can see just how much he cares about them. And how proud he is of them. He was getting as emotional as they were!

They are a wonderful family.

Results link for the ice dance qualifier event that starts today

Molly and Alessio are here to get their qualification

I think this is competitive debuts for Bushell/Pena, Nordman/Okhrem (sr), and Hammond/Whieldon (jr)

Good luck and great skates to everyone, hopefully there is a working stream on youtube

It looks like Molly and Alession have withdrawn - what a pity - does that mean that they can't skate at Nationals, or do they have a bye?

I saw that too :( they are really not having the best luck. I don't know the rules but I hope there's some way for them to get a bye. Well, assuming an injury would not get in the way :(

Chris also coaches Kristen Spours and has been trying to juggle her competitions in with everything else.

I didn't realize he coaches her as well - thanks! So happy that Zoe and Chris are still involved with skating. I had heard that the girls skated - didn't know that Zarah was one of them until CaroLiza_fan confirmed, although I should have guessed with the name. Skating is such a small world indeed!

I didn't know that! The last I heard Kristen was with Phil Harris. (Somebody else who appears to be very busy, judging by the number of skaters we see him with).

Thank you for pointing that out. :thank:

I have had a soft spot for Kristen ever since she appeared in "Freeze". I just love everything about her and her whole attitude to everything.

And I didn't know Kristen had got married either. I wish her and Corey all the best.

Kristen Spours has won the Denkova-Staviski Cup in Slovakia with a score of 186.02. It doesn't count as an ISU PB because it was only a senior B competition, but it's the highest score she's ever had in an international event. Nina Povey placed 4th there with a score of 164.49. Nina is still short of the technical minimum needed for Worlds.

For Ireland, Dillon Judge has also achieved his highest international score at the same event with 151.73. Soucisse/Firus placed 4th in ice dance with 164.12. They have scored higher elsewhere this season and might be disappointed not to have scored better here and medalled. Only the top 30 junior girls were allowed to progress to the free and Sophia Tkacheva just made it after placing 29th in the SP. She finished 28th with 92.55. Saoirse O'Sullivan didn't make the cut off for the free.

In Juniors, Jack Donovan took the bronze medal with 156.96. It's his best international score but he's still a fair way off the technical minimum for Junior Worlds. Realistically, there are too many GB skaters above him for him to get selected anyway, but it still matters for funding.

Alice Smith was 4th in junior girls, Emma Lyons was 15th, and Saskia Zainchkovskaya was 25th. They have also all achieved their highest international scores, but they do not count as an ISU PB.

Are Lydia & Harry still skating? Haven't seen them in any events this season yet. Thought they showed lots of potential over the last couple of seasons.

I've been wondering the same thing.

Alexa Severn also seems to be missing this season.
