2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

Has Maddie done any interviews lately? I don't know why she's having so much trouble skating clean, and all I can think is that I want her to switch strategies or coaching team or something. With skate canada coming up, I think if she skated semi clean she'd be gifted a medal, but I don't believe her to skate even halfway decently. She wasn't always inconsistent like this, was she? I like her skating a lot, but I'm always concerned she's gonna fall or pop.
She was interviewed by Robert Brodie in September - https://rwbrodiewrites.substack.com/p/i-have-it-in-me-to-have-a-really

Fee Ann Landry did it!!!
🥉 bronze medal 🥉
It was going so well, until she fell on her 3Lo…. Then, she lost her confidence and popped her flip. But, she was smart enough to add a 2A which garnered her the medal
Also, she was the only skater with no < and q because that is how good and clear her jumps are. With 57.98…. She just missed the Worlds minimum. But, Worlds will only go to one senior lady. I just wanted her to attain 4CC minimums. But, she was so close. She scored two 165 skates at her domestic events. So, I will take 169 at an international event. Congrats Fee Ann!!

Also, Breken, that was a great comeback skate. Her TES score of 58.18 was actually better than Fee Ann and the third highest in the free skate. Her PCS scores would have been better had she skated at a later flight. Anyways, she also scored 4CC minimums and I’m sure she learned a lot for this result with her 150.54 score (worse than her three domestic events). But, moving from 20th to 10th is amazing. Good job Breken! I’m so proud of you.

Hamilton Skating Club posted Breken's free skate on Instagram. The archived stream is not available right now.

For minimums for Senior Women, it is now:

Worlds
Madeline Schizas
Sara-Maude Dupuis
Uliana Shiryaeva*

4CC
Kaiya Ruiter*
Fee Ann Landry
Breken Brezden*
Justine Miclette

* also has the Junior Worlds minimums and is age eligible, Uliana also has the highest international score for the Junior eligible women at the moment.

Any assignments to Warsaw Cup or Golden Zagreb may fall within the 7 days of Skate Canada Challenge requirement for a bye to Nationals. That will probably factor into any assignments for the Senior Women for those Challengers due to the number of women competing at Challenge.

Ladies at Nationals this year is going to be a fight. All of the top ladies who have competed so far are close in scoring. There are about 6 of them fighting it out for 4CC and World spots.
Just think what Fee Ann could be scoring with a 3/3 in her short and long.

I am so sad for the mistakes made by our two teams at SKAM.... Judges were so happy to drop Alicia and Paul who were in 4th place after the RD and ended up last.... what a missed opportunity to grab some world ranking points for them. I hope they do better at SCI.

Bashynska/Beaumont had a fall on the ending lift in the free dance when they competed at Skate Ontario August too (plus a fall on the choreo slide too.) I haven't seen their free dance from today (I saw the comments about crying, so I think I'll skip it), so I'm going off their protocol. It looked like a very demanding program when I saw them compete it domestically, it may not be working for them if they're having the same error on the same element two competitions in a row.

Oh, gosh, no...

I really wish Madeline would go to a new coach and club.. it’s time to change it up.. she’s maxed out in scores with what she’s doing and it’s not changing. Even if she skates clean two programs at Skate Canada I can’t see her getting a medal if everyone else above her skates well. I think she hasn’t reached her potential yet but I believe she needs another team to do it with.

Katherine Medland Spence is now listed on the Events page for Warsaw Cup. She's the only entry listed at the moment.

She's very close to the 4CC minimums from Cranberry Cup last year, so there could be 8 women with the minimums at Nationals this season. Also the timing of Warsaw Cup may give her a bye to Nationals.

Hopefully they'll add more skaters, or they have other non-National Team entries planned for Zagreb.

So I'm guessing it'll be Aleksa Rakic and Stephen Gogolev for Zagreb for the men.
I am concerned about Gogolev. As far as I am aware, he hasn't competed at a single event since he WD from nationals last year. Not even a 'practice' domestic event. This makes me suspect that he hasn't been fit to do so. My fear is that he is going to come back for the GP when he isn't ready and then be injured longer. If he isn't ready yet, then it could be career-ending for him - just look at Rika Kihara to see the results of skating/competing before being fully healed (and I suspect Eva-Lotte Kibus has gone down the same route).

He did compete at Skate Ontario August, where he debuted his 4Lo. His score was decent, 233. Then he withdrew from Nebelhorn. How he'll do this week, I have no idea. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of Nationals.

Thanks. :) We'll have to see what happens. I don't want him to wreck his career.

It's a shame.

I agree that it was a missed opportunity, but I don't think the judges were "so happy" to drop them.

It's just where the numbers ended up, and they did have a very large mistake on a big ticket element, along with some lesser mistakes.

I felt for them, being assigned at the last minute, but still better than being left out, I suppose.
