2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

I didn’t know this event was taking place already. How come this forum doesn’t post this as an event?

We actually had a separate Synchro Forum for years. No one ever used it, so it was removed.

I have just created a thread here so you can discuss :)

With synchro's fairly recent surge in popularity and prominence, maybe time to bring a general synchro forum back? :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::ghug:

I think she'll get WTT, she's on a roll after Nationals and 4CC. Plus her points from 4CC really help with qualifying, so I think she should go so that Never Go Back can get one last competition (and generous WTT PB🤞)
In her interview, she mentioned she is still training hard due to being the first alternate to Worlds, in case Maddie withdraws. But, secretly I think she knows she will be picked for WTT.

She is the silver medalist and scored 178 and beat Maddie in the process. Had she skated her best free skate, she could have surpassed 180. WTT will be an excellent opportunity for her. If she beats Maddie there, she can even make a case for being our top Canadian lady.
Go SMD!!!

I don't think Maddie will want to go to WTT and risk to be beat by Sara-Maude a second times.

I think that if Maddie beat Sara-Maude score from 4CC at World in Boston that Maddie will likely rest home for WTT for not risking to be beat by Sara-Maude an other times.

There would be issues if Maddie decides not to go. From the announcement:
Furthermore, in case that one or more of the best ranked Skaters/Couples (in the ISU World Standings valid after the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025) of a Qualified ISU Member elects not to participate, the ISU reserves the right to exclude such Team from the competition and to invite instead the ISU Member/s whose Team is ranked next in the ISU World Team Trophy qualification list

Maddie is the best ranked woman from Canada, currently at 18th in the World Standings. If she decided not to participate out of fear of being outscored by another Canadian woman, it could cause issues for Canada being able to compete.

Besides, Maddie has been outscored by other Canadian women before. 2023 4CC, Sara-Maude placed higher than her there. 2024 Nationals, Kaiya won that over her. Going into SCI this season, Uliana had a higher SB than her. Katherine won the free skate at Ontario Sectionals over Maddie.

Given that she's talked about competing more this season, I don't see Maddie turning down WTT. She maxed out her Challengers this season and competed at Ontario Sectionals on top of that. It's a last chance to compete her planned free program for the Olympic season before taking a break and making adjustments to it.

Canada is down to one man and one woman in juniors. Michael Slipchuk mus be crying. Lulu was dead last in the FS and certailnly not cclose to what she did at Nationals which looked phenomenal maybe even world podium. But maybe she shouldn't' have skated here with the injury??

Slipchuk made this mess. He can lay in it.

I honestly think SMD was way unscored at 4CC especially in the short program. But again it goes back to the age old CAN problem - not being sent out enough. Look at the event in Poland last weekend the USA sent out 3 senior ladies - one well known and the other two not known. Yet they have now been sent out in case they start getting good home results in a year or 2.

I'm not unduly surprised because things had seemed a bit off this season. It sounds like they are both intending to continue, so I wonder who they will each pair up with? I think Bruce Waddell is too old for Nadiia?

I hope they pair up. Only a couple years apart. And he is wonderful.

He's the same age as Peter, but like @4everchan I'm unsure he wants to return to dance.

Bruce is clearly younger than I realised - he seems to have been in seniors for years! I would love to see him back in dance - I think he is stronger there than in singles - but it is what he wants which counts.

Wow, I absolutely loved them together in juniors. Every time I ever like a junior pair or dance team they split up... They are both talented so I know they will do well with new partners.
