What do you guys think? Will he surprise us at Worlds?

Hopefully his health issues are over, that knee infection looked awful 😧

Predicting how he'll do is hard, and I'm glad I won't be watching the men's short live. I don't think my nerves could handle it. Hopefully he keeps staying off social media (except for the account that made those Funko Pops, those are adorable!)

The rumours about Nadiia and Peter were true :(
While not surprising, it's still sad to see them part. Their coaching team just didn't hit the spot with the program selection for them this season and instead of progressing, it seemed like they were stagnating. From what I can tell, Nadiia moved to IAM Ontario and Peter didn't want to leave Carol Lane, so clearly they just weren't on the same page anymore.

And as a bittersweet look back at their partnership, here are two of my favourite BaBeau programs:

The Red Violin (2022-23 FD):

Romeo and Juliet (2023-24 FD):

I agree with the programs for this year but if all teams split when they have a bad year of programs, there would be absolutely 0 teams left... LaLa's RD this year is not good... Piper and Paul had an awful olympic year... The Italian Robots are bad... Lilah and Lewis have had the same program forever... etc...

I can understand Peter not wanting to leave Carol though. She brought him there. I think it's more a personality clash. I see her as very serious and focused and him as a goofball.. but of course, just my perception as a fan...

LaLa's programs this year might not be good by fans' standards, but they are still scoring & placing well. Piper and Paul's bad Olympic season still had them in the top 10 at the Olympics (& they were older and more established as Seniors than BaBeau). The Italian Robots are quite bad and scoring comparatively low (for their standards), but despite that, they are still in the running for a World Championship medal again (and at their ages, most skaters don't want to start over with a new partner, and they're also in a relationship off the ice, no?). And Lilah and Lewis might have similar programs year after year, but judges aren't dinging them significantly for it, are they?
BaBeau, on the other hand, scored lower this season than in their last Jr season or their first Sr season, even dropping to 7th at Canadian Nationals with a score 10-ish points lower than last season.

Nadiia is a lot of fun too, at least from her vlogs. And even then, that sort of dynamic doesn't have to lead to a split - Madi Chock for example also seems to be more serious and competitive than Evan. The most likely thing is that Nadiia wanted to leave Carol after their perceived lack of progress in the last two seasons under her and Peter didn't want to leave.

fair but BaBe also have had major mistakes in pretty much all their competitions... are those mistakes due to bad programs or bad execution?

that's likely indeed. I don't blame him for not wanting to leave the coach who brought him there though.

I also loved their RD in 2021-22

I came here to ask about something else and was quite saddened to learn of Nadiia’s and Peter’s split. I always thought it a great shame that they didn’t get on the GP (except that one host spot?). Hopefully it will work out for the best.

Anyway, my question is: who is the team with the Irish FD in 2023-2024? For a while, I thought they were Alicia and Paul but now I realize they are not. Hopefully it is not too lazy to ask for the answer instead of doing my own research 😀. I am collecting my favorite Irish themed programs into a playlist for St. Patrick’s Day and am in a bit of a hurry.

Are you thinking of Pate & Bye? They did a free dance set to Riverdance-y music a couple years ago.

The best one is, of course, Bourne & Kraatz’ from 1997-8. Speaking of great Canadians!

Molly Lanaghan and Dmitre Razgulajevs had a Lord of the Dance free dance last season. They split at the end of last season, Molly was on Dancing On Ice recently and won it.

Peter seems to have more options. So I will spend my energies trying to manifest a good partner for Nadiia. I just love her balletic look and lively presentation which was not highlighted by this years programs. If anyone can find this girl a good partner, it is probably IAM. Jacob Richmond perhaps? Kyryl Bielobrov who split from Mariia Holubtsova perhaps?

I doubt Jacob is still skating...
Kyryl and Nadiia could represent Ukraine

Robert Brodie interviews Kaetlyn Osmond:
“I tell them don’t look at the scores. I was at a competition with my skaters, and they’d get upset when they got the score back. And I’m like, I can probably tell you three scores that I got in my whole career,” she says. “Just because if you feel good getting off the ice, maybe keep feeling good. Acknowledge the things that didn’t work, and work on getting those better at the next competition. And there’s always another competition. That’s always my biggest piece of advice, just to have fun doing it and remember how you feel when you did it. And then work hard to fix things.”
