2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

Well, I wanted to watch the SP’s without knowing results. But, I went to CBC Gem and read Alysa Liu was in first and Maddie in 6th!! I didn’t believe it.

I only watched those two performances. Alysa was good. But, questionable if combo was 3F 3Tq. Meanwhile, Maddie was remarkable. No flutz and fully rotated jumps. She leaped so high with her 3Lo. I was shocked to see all level 4’s. She was a revelation to me. Great performance. Maddie is going to have to focus, but, has a chance for top ten. Amber and Chaeyon are dangerous and looking to knock out two in the top ten. Hopefully, that is not Maddie.

I ended up watching Pairs SP instead since I didn’t know the result. I was sad for the Canadian Pairs teams. I’m hoping the Canadian teams move up. They need the three spots. Please!!

Also, the one thing that annoyed me today, is the American inflation scores. I hope the scores will be fairer over next three days. I guess why I’m sad is because I know Piper and Paul have no chance for gold now 😔 . Also, I will be livid if Canada loses their three spots tmrw, as it is close now for them to hit target 13… if they miss it due to an over marked American, I will be sad

I watched our three pairs.

OK... Deanna and Max were messy and if that kind of skating might have been ok in a LP, in the SP it doesn't forgive... too many small deductions...

Trennt and LIa were absolutely on fire... that fall on the loop cost them but they performed all the other elements with brio. A tad underscored for me.

Loucas and Kelly wuzrobbed

Sure, they need polishing. But this was such a good and solid performance. They should be higher.

My hope is for Deanna and Max to reach top 5 now.. I think 5th is quite likely with a good performance... If teams in the top 4 falter, they could even rise up a little bit more but I don't think a podium is very reachable... we will see... 7 points or so is hard to make up.

Lia and Trennt. I wish them a skate similar to Nationals. If they do that, they could rise up to 7 or 8th place...

5+8 would be enough for the 3 spots. 6 + 7 can also make it... but I think 5 + 8 will be just fine ;)

Kelly Ann and Loucas should just skate freely and have fun. I don't think they will rise up to the point where they would pass another Canadian team and be a factor for ranking points... if they did, it may most likely mean 2 spots anyways... but yeah...

I was very disappointed in pairs because we actually need 4 spots :) so if we only get 2... it will suck

So strange one event determines the fate even though this year as a whole they have done pretty well albeit not the best

Starting to worry that with the bonus marks the USA skaters are getting that LALA may end up getting low levels and end up behind all 3 USA teams who will all get the higher levels.

This is the take panel for ID

I guess we have an absolute nightmare of a tech panel for the Canadian teams... All their contenders are represented.
Hilary Selby = GBR
Julia Rey = USA
Francesca Fermi = ITA

We are screwed.

Makes one wonder what kind of deals are being made and will the CAN teams be the big losers overall. It happened a couple years ago when we lost our 3rd spot.

Actually the worst possible combination

Was just remembering. Meagan/Eric won worlds in 15 and 16 then in 17 they placed 7th in the short and finished 7th overall. At worlds in Boston is 2016, 2 USA teams placed on the podium in Dance. That year Weaver/Poje had won the GPF but got dropped to 5th at worlds. Also in the Ladies there were two USA ladies in the final group and all 3 in the top 10, after the short with one in 1st there too.

Have to wonder what the posts would be like if CAN skaters got the same bonus marks and overlooked rotation calls at last years worlds in Canada.
I guess I can kind of see how Roman gets a quarter call on his quad, but to me it didn't look any worse than the under rotated combinations from all three of the US women in the short program which were completely ignored. In fact, his looks a lot closer to being clean....

I know. To me, it is borderline between clean and q. His 4S is big enough that to me, it should be called clean.

If he was American, it would be called clean 🙄

I’m happy. I think he has a chance to skate in the penultimate group.
