2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

I’m sad Canada lost a spot in Pairs. But, they didn’t execute well at Worlds.

I was really hoping Maddie would be the one to surprise to earn us back the lost spot and she just missed.

As for dance, it is clear Piper and Paul will win silver. I’m intrigued with the battle for bronze. Does LaLa actually have a chance? I think they will ultimately give it to the Italians. I just hope LaLa stays at #5. I will scream with joy if they surpass the British team and hold off the Americans and teams behind them.

As for Roman. I’m happy with him earning a spot already. It is not like we have any depth with our Senior Men. I know there is an outside chance for a top ten finish. He will have to be clean with a landed 4S in the second half just to have a chance. I don’t see him ever landing that quad in the second half considering he struggles with fully rotating the 4S, as his first element. I hope he goes for a 3S instead. Also, his 3Lz has looked off recently. I guess my goal for Roman is just to place higher than last season. Top 18 placement will make me happy.
The pairs lacked passion, I noticed all the teams were told to run out onto the ice and the cDNA teams walked!
To me Deanna looks worn down. Really it was Lia Trent that needed to step up especially in l/p. They both looked flat and they have done this routine well previously. I like them a lot. Kelly/Lucas are kinda the best they can be I can’t see them placing high at this level in the future.

Also, Maddie kind of lost the top ten placement due to lower level jumps.

I think she lost her confidence with her lutz when she doubles it.

But, if she had gone for 3Lz 2T and then replaced the final 2A with another 3Lz, and if she landed it, she could have placed top ten. The 3Lz is her third most reliable triple after the 3Lo and 3S. It was disappointing seeing her go for 3T 2T instead.

I am annoyed. I do not understand LaLa's score. There's not much in it between 3-5 and I am surprised they didn't manage to get the second US team up into bronze. Gold and silver went to the correct teams. I'm not sure any of the group below had quite earnt the bronze.

They should have been awarded gold last season in Montreal. Pretty sure everyone following them agrees! They had a great free dance.
If they continue to the end of next season, I think Piper and Paul will win at next year's Worlds. I expect Chock and Bates to retire after their Olympic medal or title.

Why wouldn't they go for 4 straight world titles. Plus Prague is beautiful. I expect them to be there.

It wasn't Marjorie & Zach's best performance of that program, by any means. Jackie Wong remarked as much from the rink.

Christina & Anthony were never going to get bronze after the RD (plus being in a different warmup group).

Them going can certainly not be ruled out, especially given that so many of their training partners will be in attendance, but it's actually incredibly rare for a potentially retiring (and in any case, taking a break) Olympic dance champion to attend a post-Olympic Worlds. It's only happened once in the last thirty years, in 2022, and Papadakis & Cizeron are obviously a special case in that it was a home Worlds.

A lot of skaters take the Worlds off in an Olympics year or retire altogether, maybe Piper and Paul can take advantage if they do decide to go and Chock and Bates isn’t there…but then again, maybe Piper and Paul will retire after the Olympics or both teams will…

Roberts write-ups are always so interesting! I was surprised by Lala's result because I thought the programme was skated well, but Zachary's comments here did make some sense. Let's hope they get vehicles like last season for the season coming up!
