2024-25 ISU Calendar of Events

Now there is a pleasant surprise. The Ice Challenge in Graz (AUT) is back. When the 2023 edition was cancelled, the announcement really did sound like it was was the end of the road for the event.

I see the event's Instagram page sprung back into life on 13th May. So, it isn't a mistake on the ISU's part. The event really is back. I wonder if it is the same organisers, or if somebody else is running it now.

And I love the name of the Senior B in Reykjavik (ISL) in October - the "Fire And Ice Cup". I realise it's the slogan of the country (Iceland is known as "The Land Of Fire And Ice") but it makes a really cool name for a figure skating event. 🔥

Actually, there are a couple of other new events with cool names. Well, they aren't actually new events, but they are new to the PDF calendar.

The Edge Cup, to be held in Katowice (POL) in January 2025, is the 2nd edition, having previously been held in January 2023. It's named after the organising club. And it is an appropriate name!

And the Unicorn Dance Trophy, to be held in Hoorn (NED) in March 2025, has been going for donkey's years (the Facebook page was set up in 2011). The most recent edition was just 8 weeks ago. I don't know where the name came from, but I like it! 🦄

Can't wait for the new season to start.

I love that Iceland has a new international competition! So they even have two now, because they are going to continue with Reykjavik International Games in January. However, I think this new fall competition can be better for them, because Reykjavik International Games is always too close to Euros etc. I hope there will be some higher ranked skaters who would like to go to Ice and Fire that always wanted to go to Iceland but never could fit it in their competition schedule.

Great name btw.

Great to see that Sonja Henie Trophy will continue, hopefully Italy had a great time in this competition and would like to go again with a big team, and hopefully senior men field in particular will be better. Norway will even host Nordics next season, I thought it would be Finland this season who hasn´t hosted since 2018. I see Sweden has been twice since, now it will be Norway, so it seems Finland is long overdue hosting but since they cancelled Finlandia Trophy they probably have enough on their hands with all that is happening. Maybe in 2026 then?

Yay, post it guy

But, IceChallenge is not a Challenger anymore? Not to be confused with it´s name. It used to be in the Challenger series right?
It used to be. But honestly, after last season's sudden cancellation I won't even blame ISU for not giving it Challenger status. Maybe the organizers in Graz were even still looking for sponsors when the Challenger series was announced.

I'm putting the link here temporarily, until the discussion thread of new season (24-25) starts:

Hi guys, could you point me to the lists, if any, who is eligible for GP stages this year, who can't meet who, etc? I need something to obsess over until the official lists come out!

I think it would probably make more sense to discuss GP speculation/hypotheticals in a dedicated thread?

There's a thread about GP assignments which has some discussion about predictions - https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/when-do-gp-assignments-come-out.98279/

It also discusses the Anything GOEs 2024-25 Grand Prix Assignment guide, it's kept up to date with all the retirements/splits :)

Thank you, that's exactly what I need!

Does the unretired Alysa Lui qualify under comeback rule? Would love to see her in SkAm!
Yes, Alysa Liu qualifies for two spots under the comeback rule. I can't wait to see her skate again too (though I might just watch her on TV)! 🙂
