I am not too surprised by this one.. though I really really liked them... I think Etienne is improving faster than Noémie... but it sucks because they were going to get assignments next year. Is Beau Callahan still around ?
Patinage Quebec has her listed on the provincial team for Novice Women, so I think that means she's qualified for Skate Canada Trophy at least.

Tim Koleto (aka Takeru Komatsubara), an ice dancer who most recently represented Japan, has officially announced his retirement, per his Instagram page:

I believe Tim had kept his options open after his wife and ice dance partner Misato Komatsubara retired. He will be sorely missed and I wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his life. 🥲

I am not surprised. I had not thought Tim would continue with another partner after his wife retired (there are many examples when suchlike has been done, I just didn't expect him to).
It's not surprising to me either, but it still makes me a little bit sad (especially since I was lucky enough to meet both Tim and Misato while they were still competing). 🥲

I'm disappointed. :( I thought they were doing well and they were very close to taking the bronze medal over a pair who were JGP finalists this year. I think that Etienne is better at pairs than he is at singles.

Pairs skaters Barbora Kucianová / Martin Bidař (CZE) have split.

When they weren't on the entry list for 4 Nationals, I was pretty sure that this would turn out to be the reason.

Anna Valesi and Martin Bidar are a new pairs team for Czechia.

For those that are interested, Anna and Martin are making their debut at the Merano Ice Trophy in 2 weeks time.

That was quick!

I'm starting to wonder if this partnership had been on the cards for a while. Like, before Barbora and Martin even split.

Was Martin's old partnership with Barbora just continuing into this season to pass the time until Anna was out of her embargo? So that he would not be rusty. 😲

If this is the case, it's not a good look on the way the coaching team works. Especially after the drama around how Barbora and Martin got together in the first place.

Were there actually any confirmed shenanigans?

I thought this was meant to be a factual thread about partnerships.

OK, calm down. I accept now that it was a bad choice of words. I should have said "the drama around how Barbora and Martin got together in the first place". Because, let's face it, there was a lot of drama... amongst the fans!

In fact, I think I will change the wording now to just that.

Whilst telling you guys that the new partnership is making it's debut is not strictly on topic, I thought I should since there was so much interest in this thread at the time of Barbora and Martin splitting, and again at the time Anna and Martin were announced. After all, with the debut happening at a small event, and that event being a few days before 4 Continents, it may not be picked up on.

These are real people. Their lives are not a soap opera.

Exactly. Which is why I do not feel comfortable with the impression we on the outside are getting of the way things are done at that club.

I don't mind a club having a "star" skater. But it seems that everything that happens seems to revolve around him, and that the other skaters don't matter as much. Which doesn't seem fair.

And I should add, this is coming from somebody that actually likes Martin.

But, this is getting too far off topic. Let's just leave it now.

Yelim Kim (KOR, women singles) just announced her retirement in Instagram a few minutes ago 😭

Auto-translation:

Hello, I'm Kim Ye-rim, figure skater.

Watching the Vancouver Olympics 2010 I want to skate too! It's been 15 years since I entered the world of figure skating.

There were a lot of happy moments when I got good grades in many competitions, but when I look back, I was happy not only when I got some results, but also for all the times and moments I spent sweating hard on the deck with a desire to do well.

Starting figure skating was the hardest decision I made in my life, and I don't think I've ever regretted it while loving figure skating.

With the valuable experience, learning, and connections gained from my 15 years of playing life, I now want to end my playing career.

During my career as a player, I would like to express my gratitude to my family who held me tight every moment when I was wondering whether I could continue to move towards an unclear future, teachers from various fields who spent brilliant times with me looking at the same place, and my sponsors Nike, KB Financial Group and JSTINA who generously supported my growth during my long career as a player.

Lastly, I thank my fans who supported and cheered me on even when I was disappointed and lost faith in myself, and who loved my acting since I was an infinitely lacking player.

I'm worried and excited about what the future holds, and what new things I'll meet, but I've been like that so far. I'll be the one who always cheered me on and cared for me. I'll try hard and diligently whatever it takes to make me a proud Kim Ye-rim.

Thank you for supporting and loving figure skater Kim Ye-rim!

Morgan Laliberte-Laurent and Maissane Chine are a new ice dance team for France.

He was previously partners with Alyson Lacombe in Canada, she was previously with Lucas Chataignoux in France.

oh well.. good luck to morgan. i am very disappointed he jumped ships... i liked him a lot... of course, if they get any good and interesting to watch, i will like and support their team no matter the flag... but you know how it is... we follow kids in juniors because they are local and we get to see them at well, local events... and now, bye... i guess he didn't feel like IAMing it

Emily Renzi and William Lissauer (USA, ice dance) have split. William is going to college, Emily will search for a new partner.

another site and The Skating Lesson are reorting that the US ice dancing team of Morozov and Chen have split. She is reportedlly llooking for a new paratner and he is suspended.

I though this team had some promise but it would be hard with such a talented US ice dance team and competitors.
