Dikidzhe is still maturing and developing. I think he's the future for the next quad, but as much as I like him, I wouldn't pick him just because he still needs some hardening. I find Mark funny and innovative, and Zhenya serious and focused, but Gummenik really can put it all together when it really counts. Still don't know who they'll go with.

I don't envy the FFKKR this decision at all. Pyotr able to deliver the highest score but has wide range of results. Mark similarly. Semenenko has IMO the lowest ceiling but is the most stable of these three. And we still have Dikidzhi as a champion of Russia and Ugozhayev with big potential. Lutfullin is also a possibility but IMO the least probable.

Imo the choice should be made between Dikidzhi et Gumennik.

Dikidzhi is reliable, has high scoring layout and rotated jumps. Never saw him bomb these past two seasons. The components are his weakness. Rusnats vice-champ last season and champ this season. The most deserving of this spot imo and the safest choice.

Petr won the half-qualifying event. Has posted big scores during the past two seasons. One of the best Russians in PCS. Weakness is his rotations who are sometimes off. My bias would make me choose him.

The only one that can be in the conversation is Semenenko imo. Despite not being convincing this season, he always find a way to end on podiums. And he was two-time Rusnats champ. Rusfed seems to like him.

I don't see why Mark should even be in the conversation.

Nat+GPF

1. Gumennik 592.83
2. Dikidzhi 584.27
3. Semenenko 575.55
4. Kondratiuk 568.13
5. Lutfullin 555.45

But if we count the whole season Gumennik will drop down...

Well, Mark's out now he just fell on the flip.

So, if they aren't sending Petr because this once off event doesn't convince them and instead are basing the decision on the totality of the season, then they have to send Vlad.

The worst thing for Semenenko was Petr having the skate of the life otherwise they might have sent him.

Gummenik is an amazing skater but will be hammered with URs if get sent because even I, often times have to do mental gymnastics to justify that most his jumps are not URed because I like him so much.

Either go Yolo with Vlad or go with the safe choice which is Semenenko.

I like all the possible choices so I'll happily cheer for whomever gets the nod and be heartbroken for those who don't, but they are all still young and if, like Mark, they decide to compete another quad, they'll ((((hopefully)))) get to earn themselves a trip over the next 5 years. It's been a long time since the Russian men were as exciting as they have been this season. One thing that will be different this Olympics (well there's a lot that will be different, but that's not in anyone's control), typically the Olympic slots aren't decided until nationals and sometimes Europeans. But, based on the "rules" for the Russians, the skater, coach and fed will know almost a year in advance and can really prepare accordingly. Focused attention on every aspect of their skating.
