I just finished watching the pairs.

M/G - Clearly the best of the field. Another 230+ score. The only team deserving of a gold medal at the Olympics. Sorry, but, I he 210+ score it appears to take to win Worlds internationally shouldn’t be rewarded with gold at the Olympics. M/G deserve a gold medal at the Olympics.

H/K - Wow! 219.80. They keep getting better. To me, they are the second best pairs team in the world. The 3Lz 2A 2A combo is wow! I hope they get the alternate spot. They earned it!! A shame this team won’t be at either Worlds or Olympics to podium.

D/B - At least they can both blame one another for this performance rust. From scoring 230s, to 220s to 210s (at Nationals) to 200s now, two of the German/Japanese/Canada/Italy pairs teams will surely score at least in the 210s. Weird to think that Russia is no longer 1,2,3 in pairs. This team just makes too many mistakes. Russia is 1, 2 or 3 now in pairs.

The other Eteri team (that lift mistake cost them a spot in the podium). I love the red hair Elizaveta athlete, and the other Moskvina team is good too. However, these three pairs teams wouldn’t be GP Finals material. They make too many silly mistakes.

Praying for Sofia M. to podium. Also, I have a soft spot for Sofia Akatieva (she was the chosen one) now. I just hope the ladies do their best.

After I’m done watching, I can’t wait to see the discussion of who deserves the alternate spot. I have a feeling it won’t be so clear after the free skate. However, I feel the the top six here, will be the same top six, from Nationals

They were going for their best skate. The twizzles were the best ones this season.

I've never seen them so devastated.

Although maybe I'm being a little dramatic.

Yeah, they blew a chance to win a medal in the final. Most likely a silver medal.

But they're still on the national team because of the Nats. Nats were more important I think.

The next chance won't be for a while, but I think it will happen. Unlike for Sh/G.

Ah, the fickleness of (some) Russian fans... At the start of the season, they were all singing K/N's praises and making disparaging comments about Pa/Ch, and now the winds have changed

To be fair, Pa/Ch are more evenly matched in terms of skating skills and their FD is more unique, but Vasilisa has improved technically since the start of the season (and levels aren't necessarily a perfect mirror of skating skills, the Taschlers & Mrazeks get mediocre levels despite having some of the best skating skills in the field)

Hmmm. I've seen disagreements arise between P/C and K/N fans as far back as last season.

As for the results, I was unsure on the Nats for example. M/U, K/N and P/C could have been placed in any order. There was no big difference in their skates. But K/N looked the most convincing today for me.

K/N still don't have fantastic levels. Mostly 2+2 or so. P/C normally have them but not today. There are rumours that their preparation was difficult.

Well, P/C had lots of mistakes during season, and Liza had to fix a lot of her issues until they started to look really good.

With K/N the main problem is that despite just a 5 years difference in age, Maxim looks like he's in his late 30's and dancing with a teenager. So, it looks kinda awkward, despite attempts to mask Vasilisa's age.
