What on Earth is this cover of "Thriller" that Pablo BUENO GARCÍA (MAD) from the Madrid Dreams club skating to?!

It's a swing version. Why would anybody record a swing version of "Thriller"?! It totally misses the point of the song.

Anyway, he is wearing mainly black, but his waistcoat has a grey front. And on the back there is a picture in grey, but I couldn't make out what it was of.

His coach looked very happy when he came off the ice.

Two of his female team-mates attempted to sit down with them, but the scores were announced before they got the chance to, and it was time to leave.

He goes into 4th position.

The last of the Basque boys, Pablo AZURMENDI GALICIA (EUS) from the Anoeta Izotz club, was also wearing all black. But he was skating to "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith.

I enjoyed that.

He goes into 5th position.

For a second there I thought the last skater, Sergio BERMEJO GARCÍA-ROMERAL (MAD) from the Valdemoro club, was skating to the same song as the penultimate one! The opening notes were very similar.

I am not sure what this music is (I think it is from a film and that I should know it, though). But he is wearing a cream top, with blue trousers, and brown boots.

Not a bad finish to the competition.

He goes into 2nd position.

So, I was wrong. Skater #1 did stay in the lead for the whole competition.

Right, that's it for the first part of Day 1. We re-convene for the Juniors in around 3 hours from now.

We start with the first of three skaters from the Basque Country, Nora SÁEZ de MATURANA SALAZAR (EUS) from the Bipolo club.

Don't think I've ever seen anybody skate to "Danse Macabre" in a sky blue dress before. It was surreal.

Now we have some girl wailing out "House Of The Rising Sun".

Noa SEGUÍ JIMÉNEZ (MAD), the first of two back-to-skaters from La Nevera club, is wearing a black dress, which would have been more suitable for the previous skater's programme.

Quality of the singing aside, it was a good skate.

The livescoring isn't working yet. (It took a while to get going with the Advanced Novices).

Nahia OLAIZOLA MUGURUZA (EUS) is a skater who is familiar to me, because she is the team-mate of one of my kids (Janire IDIAKEZ SAN JOSÉ) at the CH Txuri Berri club.

She is wearing a beautiful black dress with a maroon petticoat.

Good skate!

Ah! Another team-mate who doubles up as a coach at the club, Iker OYARZABAL ALBAS (who will be in action in Senior Men tomorrow night), is sitting with her. (Sorry, I don't know who the other guy is).

She goes into 2nd position.

Just to let you know, the livescoring is now working.

And now I understand why Claudia del FRESNO RIVAS (MAD) from the Boadilla club was so upset. After being fifth from the bottom in the SP, she was in penultimate position in the FS. Mind you, as it stands, it has only dropped her one position in the overall standings.

I think that somewhere amongst that mass of noise that the first of the two Basque skaters, Naroa EGEA AMADO (EUS) from the Bipolo club, was skating to was the "Ghostbusters" theme tune.

I'm sure it sounded great in the arena. But it didn't come across well through the stream.

She was wearing a red and black costume.

And she skated well.

New leader in both the FS and overall.

What a strange costume that Leyre FERNÁNDEZ MORA (MAD), the first of the skaters from La Nevera club, is wearing. It is a jumpsuit, where the top half is red and the bottom half is black. But on the front there is a skin coloured heart on her chest, and on the back there is a Queen of hearts card.

At the start and the end, there was a guy singing a song that I didn't know (it wasn't a great song). But in the middle, there was an instrumental version of "The Entertainer". And the different pieces of music didn't fit together.

I honestly have no idea what the concept of the programme was.

She had a fall.

But she goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

It took a while, but Leyre FERNÁNDEZ MORA (MAD) has now been deposed from the top of the FS and overall standings by her La Nevera team-mate, Elsa QUERO MENÉNDEZ (MAD). Mind you, it wasn't by much.

Then another La Nevera skater, Lucía YANGUAS LÓPEZ (MAD), came out and did a "Top Gun" programme. In the least "Top Gun" costume you can imagine! It was a grey / cream dress. A far cry to what my kids Sofía VAL / Asaf KAZIMOV (MAD) wore for their "Top Gun" programme last season.

She goes into 3rd in the FS, and 2nd overall.

La Nevera 1-2-3-7 in the FS, and 1-2-3-5 overall.
