Spanish National Championships, 11-14 December 2025

Right, I am away for my Sunday Dinner, and then catching up on the Senior Singles FS segments in Lithuania. But, I'll be back here for the Pairs.

All the best to those that I will miss.

I've just watched the FD here, and it was fun indeed. Contrary to @CaroLiza_fan I can get into Dune programmes (perhaps because I've read the books and seen the films and mini-series) and Olivia and Tim are doing an excellent interpretation. That control. Very fitting for a Dune interpretation. I loved watching Sofía and Asaf as well. A lovely Dance to watch. Sham about the twizzle. Oh, well, I am so pleased both couples will be able to go to the OG. Hurrah.

Philomène and Raoul were just great. I loved their costumes and their Dance. Good to see that the future is looking promising for Spanish Ice Dance. Athena an Eric were the first to skate and probably must wait a little longer to rise in the ranks. Very slow skate, even if that meant you could see what was happening in realtime. Funny to see Adrian with them.

I think part of my problem with "Dune" programmes is that I loved the music from the original 1980's film so much, and I don't think that the music from the recent films is as good. At least, not the music that is being selected for skating to (I haven't actually seen the recent films yet, so I don't know all the music or their context).

But, getting back to the skating, and Spain really is turning into a hotbed for Ice Dance. As you say, Athena and Eric are just starting out on their journey, but the other three partnerships are all looking strong. And it's not just Spain's own partnerships, but also the partnerships based there that compete for other countries.

So good to see somewhere else emerging to challenge the dominance of Canada and Russia.

We're back now for a Pairs FS triple-bill. 2 Advanced Novice partnerships, then 2 Junior partnerships, then 1 Senior partnership.

And now that the Lithuanian Championships are over, I'm back too!

Nora MELGUIZO GÓMEZ / Pablo BUENO GARCÍA (MAD) skating to "I Was Made For Loving You" by Kiss, followed by the song "Kiss" by Prince.

Nora wearing a black top with oscilloscope pattern and shiny purple shorts with white belt. Pablo wearing a jacket matching her shorts, black T-shirt and blue jeans.

Well, that was a lot of fun to start off our Pairs triple-bill! I loved it!!!

They seem disappointed with their scores.

Sofía GÓMEZ / Mario MARTÍNEZ-IÑIGUEZ (MAD) skating to an instrumental piece, then the version of "Pure Imagination" from the recent re-make (can't remember if it is Charlie or Willie Wonka in the title).

Sofía is wearing a pinkish white dress. Mario is dressed as Willie Wonka.

That was enjoyable too.

Awwww. I think Sofía is tired. Whereas Mario and their coach are sitting upright, she is slouched down.

Now Nora and Pablo have joined them on the sofa.

Sofía and Mario win the FS and the title.

Inés MOUDDEN ROCA de TOGORES / Alejandro Lázaro GARCÍA MELGARES (MAD) skating to music from "Cirque Du Soleil".

I've seen this programme quite a few times now, and their costumes are so complex that I am not going to try describing them again. But, Inés is wearing a red and white dress with hearts on it, and Alejandro is wearing a white shirt, blue trousers, and braces with hearts on it.

I always love this programme. And they were great.

As first to skate in Juniors, they go into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Anita MAPELLI / Noah QUESADA GRAU (EUS) skating to music that I know, but my mind has just gone blank.

They are both wearing light blue and black costumes. With Noah, the blue is at the top. With Anita, the colours are all mixed.

They were good, but there were also obvious mistakes.

But, with a 10 point advantage from the SP, they should be alright.

Jonathan was with them, but then had to leave to see to the Senior partnership coming up next.

Anita and Noah win both the FS and overall.

Oh no. Megan YUDIN / Patrizio ROSSI (EUS) are skating to that awful cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". 🙉 And then a cover of Sia's "Chandelier" that was just as bad. 🙉 And then rattled through a whole pile of awful covers of various songs. 🙉

Megan wearing a red dress, and Patrizio was wearing a black T-shirt and black trousers.

The music might have been awful. But the skating was good.

They are sitting on their own.

Aha, there's no resurfacing before the Senior Ladies FS. So Jonathan is busy seeing to Nahia.

They win both the FS and overall. Obviously.

We start with the three Madrid girls.

María ESCRICHS LAVIAGA (MAD) is wearing a black dress which blends in with her tights so well that I thought it was a jumpsuit!

She is skating to "Le Jazz Hot!" from "Victor / Victoria".

Unfortunately, there were issues. Including a fall early on.

But, even with the issues, I really enjoyed it.

She's being philosophical about it.

Sorry, got distracted by a post in another thread, and then the computer started playing up. So I didn't get writing about Alexandra MARTÍNEZ CARBÓ (MAD).

She went into the lead of both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Lucía RUIZ MANZANO (MAD) was wearing a dress that was mostly black, but had a large red heart on it.

Strange combination of music. Can't remember what was at the start, then "Come What May", then "Tango De Roxanne".

Unfortunately, she had a fall.

She goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Nahia OLAIZOLA MUGURUZA (EUS) skating to a French song.

She is wearing a beautiful black dress.

Mmmm. A few pretty big issues.

For a moment there, I thought Jonathan had fallen asleep on the sofa!

She goes into the lead of both teh FS and overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Ariadna GUPTA ESPADA (CAT) was wearing a white dress that was blending into the ice.

The music she was skating to was good enough, but I don't like opera singing. So, I'd have preferred no vocals.

But, she was good.

The commentators are talking a lot about Valentina Matos. I wonder why. I don't think they belong to the same club. No, Valentina belongs to a club in Madrid.

Anyway, Ariadna wins the FS and the title.

An now. The end is here. And so we face. The final curtain.

We finish the Spanish Championships now with the Senior Men's FS.

8 of them, arranged into two groups of 4.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

The first group alternates between Madrid and Catalan skaters.

Daniel ROUCO MORCILLO (MAD) is skating to music from "Jekyll & Hyde".

He is wearing black trousers and a shirt that is black on the right hand side. The left hand side is light grey on the front, burgundy at the back, and light blue on the sleeve.

Never heard any of this music before, but I really liked it. I would like to see more programmes to it. Perhaps as an alternative to some other musicals that have become warhorses.

Yes. I enjoyed that programme.

A great way to start the competition.

CaroLiza_fan

Guiu OLIVER VERBON (CAT) is wearing black trousers and a top that, working from his right hip to his left shoulder, fades from black, through red and yellow, to white.

I don't know the song he was skating to. Unfortunately, I left it too late to look up lyrics. But, I loved it! It started off quite tame, and then built up into a proper rock song!

I really enjoyed that too!

He goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

When I saw the black costume and single white glove that Adrián JIMENEZ de BALDOMERO (MAD) was wearing, I said confidently "Michael Jackson".

And then Freddie Mercury started singing! :palmf:

To be fair, I realised as soon as the music started that it was Queen. But it was not a song I have ever seen skated to before. "Innuendo". And I would love to see it skated to more often. Because, as Adrián has shown here, it works really well!

I absolutely loved that!!!

Yes, I know it wasn't perfect. But, as a Queen fan, I don't care!

He goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

And just right!

CaroLiza_fan

Back-to-back Queen!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Mahery RANDRIANARIVONY LÓPEZ (CAT) was skating to my favourite song of all time, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

He is wearing a white T-shirt, black waistcoat, black gloves and black trousers.

Hang on, why was "Little high" censored?!

Oh dear. Two falls in the first half. And then two more in quick succession in the second half.

Urgh, really bad edit at the end.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a big song. And I am afraid that it was too big for Mahery today.

But, fair play to him for trying.

You can tell that when it is done clean, this is a great programme.

SIX points in deductions!

He goes into 4th and last position in the FS, and 2nd position overall.

CaroLiza_fan

Right, final group. Two Basque boys, followed by two Madrid boys.

There is potential for a change between the Basque boys (who belong to different clubs). But, unless they have a skate like we just saw, the Madrid boys should be locked into their positions.

First up, it's my Basque kid's boyfriend.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST IKER!!! :cheer:
