2024-25 U.S. Men's Figure Skating

I think this is a joke? He was streaming Fortnite on Twitch (god, this is the most Gen Z sentence I've ever typed and I don't think the forum has ever seen these words before) and said on stream that he was doing Bolero for his SP, then later clarified it was a joke. He also said his free was a "proper song". What that means, I have no idea, but I think it's a joke. He never says what the music is in the caption, so I think this is just a choreo preview and we should ignore the music playing. I think.
That is why I said he was trolling us, because of his stream. He was trolling either way. He is either trolling by saying he was not and is actually doing it, or by saying he is not and then joking by posting this clip. In the end, he definitely brings the entertainment!

Totally with you on the Gen Z sentence content. I found myself watching the clips of his Twitch stream later and was like "WTH am I doing? Why am I watching a 19-year-old shoot up characters over and over and use slang I barely understand?"

But in terms of his actual music, someone on another site identified the song he accidentally played for a second and what he ended up removing from his Spotify playlist, and uh... If this is the real song, I'd prefer Bolero. :slink:

Can someone share the mystery music title? I understand it is just another site speculation at this point, but we speculate about music all the time. :)

OK, it's been announced now! Ilia's FS is "I'm Not a Vampire" by Falling In Reverse.

Not gonna lie, I spent the last 3 days being confused AF by this music choice. I skipped to the end, assuming that it was the musical climax, and all I heard was screaming and immediately hit pause, lmaooo. God bless Shae Lynn for choreographing this. That said, the first two minutes are not bad. The lyrics though are... interesting. I'm actually pretty interested to see what lines make the cut and how he ends up interpreting this. He's not boring, that's for sure.

I don't know what to make of Ilia's programs.

While definitely not on heavy rotation in my playlist, I prefer the long. At least it's different. There are dozens of program music selections like his short.

Re Ilia’s FP.. never met an “artist” who feared pushing boundaries. Ilia forges full steam ahead despite his youth..
So so curious how this will play out. With S-LB involved some restraint is my guess ..
Whatever the final piece, I challenge Ilia to do a repeat performance of it in 10 years..
Would he do this is the question..🤗

Skate America will be the most entertaining in years with Terry, Johnny, and Tara trying to figure out on how they are going cover Ilia program. This song has many interesting lines and could be there and many possible curse words that will be there as well. I hope that Shae-lynn cleans this up some but only so much you can clean up here if they are going to keep the lyrics in here. Maybe they will just use the music and takes the words out, but I would not count on it. I going to get some popcorn to watch this Ilia vs. Establishment.

I agree with you there. At least the song is over 6 minutes long, so there is scope to cut out the swearing and screaming. Also, I thought that Ilia said his costume for the free skate was white, but surely black and red would fit the theme more closely? Anyway we will have to wait and see what happens.......

OK, ngl as the kids would say, couldn't make it all the way through that tune.

But I was kind of hoping it would actually be more different? Am I crazy? I mean the end (I skipped to it) with the screaming and the histrionics, yeah, that's different, but the beginning is just kind of orchestral music with a ballad-y singer that builds. Only the vampire theme and language makes it off beat. And Ilia will hardly be the first vampire to skate:biggrin:

But it does beat Bolero ;)

Finally heard the song/watched the video. I'm sure the edit will be fine. Shae Lynn is highly attuned to the skating world from her days competing to her award-winning skater choreography.

In fact, has she ever done "bad" work? Seriously. Can't think of it.

I am just curious if she was like, "you can skate to this" versus him approaching her with "I'm doing THAT!"

I am 100% here for Ilia skating to Falling in Reverse! Never thought someone would do it, but here we are. This is why Ilia is my fav 😁
I will say, the original version of this song is better, imo, but it wouldn't really work for a program

TheIliaSociety twitter has the cut of his music from a video of his practice session, and it actually works pretty well to my ears. Only a little bit of screaming, but it fits. Some "risque" lyrics, but nothing that profane, lol. The ending choreo sequence seems pretty epic if he's able to maintain his energy and speed. This works waaaayyyy better than Bolero, lol. (I was only half-kidding about preferring Bolero before. I hate Bolero, and it'd be such a terrible, terrible choice for Ilia.) Looking forward to seeing how it all looks tomorrow!

Probably the former, but I can also see Ilia being given a bit of leeway now due to his accomplishments. His HOPE and Billie Eilish galas have been big hits among his fanbase and TikTok, and I think it'd be really boring for everyone to see him skate to something traditional or classical now. Also, idk if it's just me, but I get former scene kid vibes from Shae-Lynn, lol. Maybe it's the platinum blonde hair. If she had born 5-10 years later, I could see her being a big Panic or Paramore fan.

My God some of the lyrics actually got in there. From Whisky is my Holy water to hiding daughters to he taking all us to hell (never in my widest dreams I ever thought I would type that about a skating program) this program could be epic. No wonder he kept what he doing under wraps until he had to perform it. Skate America could such fun with Terry, Tara, and Johnny trying to explain Ilia program such fun. I know that judges expression's are never shown but that would priceless because this so far beyond what it is typically seen in this sport. I going to enjoy this.

On Ice Perspective's video of Patrick Blackwell at An Evening with Champions:

I love the interaction with Paul Wylie at the end.

The song feels like an overwrought and melodramatic attempt at a Jim Steinman song (and boy, was Steinman melodramatic).
