Yamashita was never my cup of tea, but that was a fantastic skate. That was actually my favorite performance of the day. I really liked the composition, especially ending with a step sequence instead of the usual spin.

…oh, but that cover is aggravating.

I felt it during the SP that Mako is just so trained - the physical conditioning is miles away from last year (probably helped by the funding as well) and it really shines in the FS, where it's tougher jump-wise. And Creep... not the typical music choice but in a way, it fits Mako so well- beautiful big skating and yet she's actually a very quirky person.

Yay for her and Mana doing well - Mako's the captain of the Chukyo Uni skating club and Mana helps her out with their club activities.

I admit...Soshi Tanaka is much more palatable as a coach now that he's with Team Yamada
He's actually a good buffer between Yamada and her skaters, especially the girlies
...which is probably why they all looked so happy when he first started showing up to events

I agree - I feel the new dynamic between Yamada, Yuko Hongo and Soshi Tanaka is a lot more balanced and "refreshing" and it helps bring fresh air for their students (probably why their women are having a renaissance.)

Unpopular opinion but Rinka's is my favorite Piazzolla this season from the Japanese women.... not her best performance expression-wise because of the jumps BUT MAN AKSJDNAKSJDKJ GREAT FIGHT MY CHOPPER!!!!

Also it's always very funny each season that Rinka seems to have the most questionable way back to her 3A AND YET IT'S ALWAYS THERE.....

Amazing 3A Rinka!! And the other jumps in the first half looked great too
The lutz in the 2nd half definitely looked under though.

Will be interesting to see how this placed compared to Mako.

Watanabe is going to lose easy points on those last two spins. Even so, this is her best performance of the free this season. That was a good skate with a landed 3A.

Wow great fight from Rinka! Those spins at the end felt like they were about to go off the rails. Amazing that she held on. I would love to see her steely expression matched with darker music.

That 3A almost made me fall out of my chair Such a beautiful one.
