thank you for the info. I had updated the thread about the next gen competition https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/2025-nextgen-competition-july-17-20.101140/#post-3432294
but forgot to come here to post it.

Who is planning to watch our juniors ?
Looking forward to watching the Junior Ladies........Lia, Ksenia, Lulu, Megan, Hetty........first look at Victoria and how the offseason went for last year's Novice skaters, Camila, Hannah & Uxia.....should be fun!

The podcast with Gabby is also on Youtube here -

Excellent interview!!i
I had no idea she was this close of friends with Amber.

Her goal: to be the first female Canadian skater to make it to three Olympics 🤗
(She is inspired by Alysa’s comeback)

How I wish Maddie didn’t pop that lutz, as we could have had two ladies spots instead of one? It will be hard to knock off Maddie. To me, having Gabby top 166 domestically (we had seven skaters achieve this last season) would be great! She could get a Challenger spot. To me, podiuming at Challenge and Nationals would be amazing. To see her make it to 4CC would be wow!! If she makes it to her third Olympics, I would be floored.

Let the best Canadian lady earn this Olympic spot. Kind of nice to see Gaby doing all she can to fight for this spot where I had already pencilled in Maddie.

I don't know if the Canadian selection criteria is as Byzantine as the American process. But I can absolutely envisage Gabby Daleman taking that Olympic spot. Provided, of course, that she is healthy physically and mentally. I don't even think it's that much of a stretch.

I think the competition will be fierce but I do feel that Maddie wants it.

I'm not sure that "wanting it" is a determining factor. I don't imagine Gabby would be coming back inspired by Alysa Liu if she didn't want it, too. I'm not sure what big international competitive avenues would be open for Gabby to prove her readiness, though. Is she even on a list that could open doors to a GP if someone drops out? Would just showing up to Canadian Nationals and winning in a rout be enough? Or barely winning? Would TPTB let her win Nationals without a recent international resume?

Lots of questions. Few answers. But I am interested in seeing how this pans out, particularly because I think Gabby stayed in the arena past the burnout stage previously, but I'm a recent convert to the idea that skaters can step away and come back stronger than ever.

I understand what you are saying... Of course, everyone wants it ;) I want it too :)

Maddie has had a couple competitions or even stretches of a season where some fans (including myself) didn't feel like she was dialed in... however, last year, it turned around and she is fighting.... she ignited her competitive spirit back, which we saw at worlds where she was so close to a top ten.

Gabby will need to compete at summer/fall events in Canada and reach a high enough score to be assigned to a Challenger. There is still a TBA host spot at Skate Canada but she would need to demonstrate high level and stability to pass others at this point.

She is on no list to sub for a GP. So that's exactly it.... Unless she managed to score very highly at all her events and win Nationals... and along the way, manage to perform well in one or two challengers... i don't see how Skate Canada would give it to her.

So yes, lots of questions and we do have some answers :)

Gabby competed the SP only this summer and did relatively well. However, her tech content was 3t-3t, 3s and 2a. This means that her lutz still not stable. Gabby never had a great flip to being with.... so it will be tough for her to bring up the tech content, earn high scores, get assignments, perform well at assignments and then win Nationals :)

Right now her best shot is at the Skate Canada International TBD spot. She would need to win a Challenger event to get on the alternate list, in which case she'd need a total domestic score of ~166 to be chosen.

I think it would really depend on how her season up to Nationals went. It isn't even not having a recent international resume, she's missing the domestic resume too. The last two seasons, her last competition ended up being Skate Ontario August due to injury. Her scores weren't what was needed for an international assignment there either. She wasn't able to compete at the last three Nationals for the same reason.

If she wants the spot, she really needs to come out hard and get the scores she needs to get the TBD spot and build up the body of work.

Robert Brodie interviews Roman Sadovsky, and talks about music clearance rights:
“I think that’s really the key, because if you get hooked on a piece and you get denied and you’re ‘x’ amount of time away from the season, it starts to get a little bit stressful,” he said of those clearance rights being taken care of so soon. “I was worried in February about it, but then once everything got sorted out by May, I could see I was lucky. I’m going to say I feel very, very lucky.

He doesn't say what his programs are though, and he'll be starting his season at Cranberry Cup.

It will be interesting to see how Maddie responds to the (potential) threat posed by a Daleman comeback. I'd say she's been perceived as the no-brainer pick for that ladies' spot, barring some big surprises. Well... Surprise! The clips I've seen of Gabby have featured some big jumps, but we all know how that goes. Skaters don't post their failed passes.

I hope for a knock-down drag-out clawing to the top of the pile for whoever earns the spot, with everyone bringing their best, and nobody left wondering what might have been.

I think Maddie's competition will come from others than Gabby... just a feeling.

I caught up on singles. Can't say I agree that Barakhtina is that much stronger than Shiryaeva, but I am glad she was recieved better. Impressed she pulled herself together for the free after what must have been frustrating mistakes in the short. Fingers crossed she gets assignments. Cho was joy to watch, but it's hard to say if she keeps 3A for long or if she starts growing too fast. Happy with how placements worked out tbh. Go, Alberta! Cho made us proud.

In men, I didn't understand why there wasn't 3 falls for Paradis in free during his choreo and i can't stand his posturing which seems to get worse every year and so are his jumps. But, like none of top 6 from SP skated good free. Vasii was really strong in SP, messy in free. Overall, that loss of combo in SP imo cost Bondar' too dearly, since he demonstrated more of 'stay on his feet' than the rest. Yes, that combo, but unlike others he wasn't popping everything. Long did have a pretty 3A... overall, messy, messy, messy.
