2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

If Loucas is with Fiona, I hope Kelly-Ann will try out with Etienne Lacasse. Since someone mentioned it a couple of days ago, the idea has really grown on me. Kelly-Ann and Etienne are both able to perform and they are probably a fairly good fit from a technical point of view.
The only question mark I have, as the one who suggested it, is the twist.

See below link for Fiona/Loucas speculation:

The comments are hilarious though... and some of them, completely false. I don't know how much weight I want to give to this.. .but it's possible that it's true... We will just have to wait and see. I have no idea who this person is... (on the IG). The only thing I can say is that when I was at CQE a long time ago, our young skaters were all friends, doing singles and pairs and what not, and smiling and having great camaraderie... and they all know each other very very well. So it is indeed possible that one partner got available and it created a chain reaction.

Do I personally like it ? It will depend on what happens on the ice. Kelly Ann and Loucas were just about to get to the level of quality they need to get recognition internationally. It took them all that time. Can they gel better with other skaters ? It's possible. Let's hope so... A few years ago, many American pairs played switcheroo I don't remember how much good came out of that so I am always iffy when it happens like this.

I got a laugh from the one who claimed that Jean-Michel wasn't a skater, he was an Olympic gold medallist in moguls skiing.

I was rewatching my DVD of West Side Story, the original version, and thought maybe they should just get all these unmatched skaters on the ice at once according to discipline, and make them do like the opening of the WSS "dance at the gym" mambo sequence. Where girls go in a circle in one direction and boys in a circle the other way, and when the music stops you dance with whoever is opposite. Supposedly.

Now I have visions of warm-ups for groups at Canadians, when they separate for awhile to skate on their own. Then have to rush over to their coach at the boards and whisper: "Who am I skating with now? I forget." The coach would just sigh and tell them to look for someone in a matching costume :rolleye:.

I think the person there mistook him for jean luc Brassard a moguls champion who was seen around Isabelle brasseur around the same era hahahaha

Mirror mirror who can twist me the highest has been asked a lot lately.

That doesn't always work. Remember the Australian pair's costumes for Umbrellas of Cherbourg? And what about a whole bunch of colorful women picking their partner from a bunch of Men in Black?

@saine If Loucas and Fiona are a Pairs team and let’s say Kelly Ann and Etienne are then confirmed as a Pairs team, do both of these teams get added to the National team with Lia and Trentt? Fiona and Etienne too??? 🤔

Also, due to their age, if Etienne and Kelly Ann compete in the JGP circuit, does Kelly Ann replace Julia in NextGen, but, she still remains part of National Team due to her bronze medal from last season alongside Etienne 🤔

I have a feeling Ava and Yohnathan will get the TBD spot for Skate Canada. This means they will probably eventually be added to the National team.

I wonder if Skate Canada will consider domestic score thresholds before sending any of the new teams to international events

I wonder how these Pairs changes will affect Kiernan and Jazmine too. If Loucas and Fiona are not ready, will Skate Canada give a Skate Canada spot to Kiernan and Jazmine instead?

If Loucas and Fiona are ready and nab the Skate Canada spot, does this mean Jazmine and Kiernan only get a challenge spot and that’s it.

National Team criteria for pairs would be for the team, not the individuals of a team. Fiona/Loucas would get on the National Team if they get a GP assignment (which would have to be a host spot since I don't think Kelly Ann/Loucas placed high enough at the last few Worlds to be eligible for a new team spot.) Kelly Ann/Etienne would likely be added to NextGen if they did compete on the JGP, but wouldn't be added to the National Team since they don't meet the criteria as a team.

Ava/Yohnatan will be in the top 24 for World Standings for GP assignments and are guaranteed a spot. They'll be on the National Team for 2026-27, though they may end up with a SCI spot too.

I'm sure they'll consider the domestic score thresholds for the new teams. I'm interested in seeing what they'll be for next season with the rule changes plus if the TES requirements added for Synchro will be added to the other disciplines too.

Kemp/Elizarov will get at least one GP spot as Junior World Champions, as will Desrocher/Thrasher as JW medalists (if they move up to seniors internationally). Given the number of pairs internationally who have split or retired at the end of this Olympic cycle, I suspect that Kemp/Elizarov will get two GP spots without needing a Skate Canada host spot. It is possible that Desrocher/Thrasher might too, but less likely.

Desrocher/Thrasher are still junior eligible and I don't honestly think they are ready for seniors yet, but I suspect they will move up.

with the rule change, it's less damaging for D/T to move up. They could do 2a-2a and 2s instead of what most teams will do 3t-2a and 3s

With the rule changes in the various disciplines, what will happen to the technical minimums? If they stay the same, they will become much harder to get, but if they lower them then loads of people will gain them from competitions they did this past season.

Last time minimum scores were changed, some skaters acquired them and some lost them.... So if minimums are changed, and most likely lowered because elements are nixed, indeed, some skaters could end up being granted new access. I doubt anyone would, in this case, manage to lose their minimums :)

Etienne and Julia have been removed from the Next Gen list. As expected.

We only have two Pairs teams left in Next Gen now.

Kelly Ann - I thought it made sense for her to pair up with Benjamin Mimar. Their favourite triples are the 3S. Mimar is inconsistent with the 3T. However, I believe Ben’s sister is dating Loucas. So, she may want to avoid him. Ferland I thought would be a possibility. The fact Etienne split with Julia kind of makes it obvious that she has paired up with him. Etienne’s favourite triple is the 3T followed by the 3F. 3S is next. But, inconsistent. He tried 3Lo in Juniors when it as the mandatory jump and struggled with the loop. He would need to practice the 3S. I like this pairing though.

Benjamin should try to poach a girl/lady with both the 2A, 3S and a 3T. Me looking directly at Cristina Lyons 😜

I think you are assuming too many things here :)

Do we know that Ben hasn't retired ?

Regarding personal relationships : meh... they all know each other and for us, as fans, we cannot really know the dynamics as outsiders... I mean if your logic about Frédérique Mimar's date (Loucas) were to be respected, why would Loucas "take" Ben's former partner.. unless well he is retired and that's all good... so if he is retired.. then Kelly Ann wouldn't have to worry about skating with him anyway :)

You are correct with Étienne's jumps so here, definitely not a match with Kelly Ann in the end. I guess jump wise, Kelly Ann is a bit screwed because most guys' favourite jump is the 3t and I don't remember the last time she performed that jump so it must not be her most stable one.

Where I agree with you, assuming I am reading your post correctly is that damn... we want to find out soon what's actually going on with our pairs :)
