SCI is going to be a big show for the CAN skaters. So much on the line for them. Can Maddie come through with 2 good skates and remain the #1 lady in Canada? Or will Sarah pass her with 2 good skates and a 3A? Can Deanna/Max do a good free skate and prove they are still in the running for a podium finish at the Olympics? And will they secure a spot in the GPF? Can Lia/ Trennt get back the Momentum they had a few years ago? Will LaLa pass the teams who passed them at worlds last year? And move back as one of the top teams to win at worlds in the coming years? Will Piper and Paul show up with great programs that put them in the running for that elusive Olympic medal? ( esp with the return of several top teams) Can Stephen and Roman continue the momentum they started the season with? And which one will come out on top this time out? I must say it is so nice to have several men battling it out for the one Olympic spot. Hopefully they will continue to push each other at SCI and through out the year.

Well interesting 1st day for the CAN skaters at SCI. Lia/Trennt have stepped it up, and delivered a great short. Think the score should have been a bit higher but think they need to be more consistent and the higher scores will come. Deanna/Max are still having some minor issues that they need to get under control and soon. Sara-Maude did great - a little tight but still it was great. Think she was underscored and should definitely have been ahead of Sarah, and maybe even a couple others who had major errors. Not sure what is up with Maddie but she is having some of her worse programs ever this season. Not sure if it is the pressure of only one spot for the Olympics but she is getting worse each time out.
Let's face it Maddie hasn't really improved her skating much since 2022 but she's gotten away with bad skates because she hasn't had anyone to push her in Canada. She even lost Nationals a couple of years ago and knew she was the only Canadian lady with the minimums to go to Worlds so she got away with not being her best. But now since last season many other Canadian ladies have put up scores that are good enough for the Olympics and Worlds and she can't afford to continue to be mediocre and now for the first time really since she won her 1st Canadian women's title back in 2022 she has pressure from other Canadian ladies for that single spot and she's feeling it.

Maddie is having an Alaine Chartrand season so far. Alaine was the favorite for the 3rd spot in Olympic and she slip it away with Larkyn.
The same thing seem to happen with Maddie, she is the favorite for the only spot to Olympic. And, this season she seem to slip away the spot for an other canadian ladies. Look like that the 11th place at world hurt her mental health like a little bit Gracie Gold after her 4th place at world. Poor Maddie.

Is IAM trying to sabotage Lajoie/Lagha with that rhythm dance?
Their programme was changed quite recently due to problems with the music rights for the original. They are probably 3-4 months behind some of the other teams in their preparation. They did well for such a new programme and I think it will be fine later.

I am not a uber fan of their RD but what works is the high energy. They are so fast that it does make it work. Also, they are not going for the hardest stuff but working on getting the level at high speed... It can bring them very very high scores. For instance, look at the mid line steps score.

I know. It's terrible. The music is monotonous and screams show program, which I think makes the judges take it less seriously. In addition, the program itself is pretty empty, and Zach needs a new shirt that is less loose. That said, I don't want him to get a new shirt in order to keep this program: I'd like them to ditch the shirt and the program

well... yeah... Uliana got a reality check on PCS. Maddie, well. she had some good jumps but left out a combo. Sara-Maude gets a pass from me. She is trying to get that 3a. It will take her a while to stabilize that layout. One cannot blame our women for not trying the big jumps and then blame them for not quite landing things when they are trying them
Pairs
Deanna and Maxime really do so well in Canada. They are a lock for the Olympics and the 210+ score and beating the Germans show they can podium at Olympics or Worlds. With the 3S and some improvements here and there, their potential scoring is up to 220.
Trennt and Lia had a shot here at the bronze medal. I’m sad for them. They need to watch out for Yohnathan and Ava. That is the battle for the second Olympic spot nobody is really noting.
Our 4th and 5th best teams - Kelly Ann & Loucas and Jazzy & Kiki will round out the 4CC spots. Megan noted that the aim of Austria is to get minimums for her team

This spot is pure chaos and chaos favours Maddie. Maddie still has this spot. Uliana and SMD didn’t do themselves any favours. However, I do see a SMD, Kaiya and Gabby 4CC team. The door is open for any of these ladies to grab any spots. These three have to seize the opportunity at their upcoming international events. Without a 180+ international score, I don’t see skate Canada giving the spot to anybody other than Maddie.

Considering the selection policy, the body of work in the last 2 years, Maddie's 11th place at worlds is a huge asset for her selection.
I don't think anyone else, other than perhaps SMD who has beaten her at 4CC can contend with Maddie. It's a bit surreal considering that when Maddie skates badly, it can be pretty bad. 48 SP means no qualification for the LP at championships. It would also mean last place in the team event or close to last place and with the way our men are skating, it could mean Canada out of top 5 and not reaching the final of the team event.
SO... of course, that's the worse possible scenario and I tend to look at the brighter side of things. So let's hope Maddie recuperates her 2025 worlds prowesses and does well at the O games.
Here's something : it's quite possible that if Maddie doesn't win Nationals, she will get sent to the games anyway but the winner could be sent to 4CC and Worlds.
