2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Well, this day couldn’t officially get any better for me. 3/3 gold 🥇 🇨🇦 👏
Plus, a bonus surprise 😳

Maddie Schizas did it!! She won the gold medal. Overall score was 175.41. Her free skate though, wasn’t that good!! She scored 111.00 flat. She had issues with both her lutzes and just didn’t have a fighting spirit. She only landed three triples: 3F and two 3Lo’s. The disappointing part to me, is that she only did one combo and on her last jump only went for 2A. Why didn’t she at least try to add a 3T and a 2T? Sigh… Maddie 🙄

The surprise of the night was the beautiful Amy Yang. Amy, our Challenger domestic event winner from last season, can fall apart or be brilliant and she was brilliant tonight. Amy won the free skate with 111.58. She landed five triples!!!! 🤗
3F, 3Lo, two 3S and a 3T. She got to show everyone how beautiful she skates. Also, her total score was 167.10!!! Yes!!!! For 🥈!!!!! (I can’t believe it!!) She was the only lady skater from Canada to surpass 166 late in the season and not be assigned to a Challenger event due to the lateness of surpassing this benchmark. She was the only lady out of 8 to not get an international assignment. Now, she surpassed 166 early on in the season!! I’m so proud of her.

Between these two USA events, only three ladies surpassed 166 and they are all from Canada 🇨🇦!!! I’m enjoying this result from our ladies!! Good job!!! Way to represent and make us Canadians proud. 👏

It is mandatory to have an axel type jump in the LP. As a matter of fact, I really don't like her layout putting the axel only as a sequence at the last jump... If she does fall on the loop or doesn't manage to combo, the jumping pass will be invalid. She needs that axel :)

Glad she is upping her game with the lutz and loop as repeated jumps... but she should bring in the axel sooner, on the first loop... so if it doesn't work, she gets another go at it... What did irk me is that if she is going to use that layout, why not do a 3loop-2a-2a or 3Loop + 2a+2t

Yay Amy. :)

:) It is a good start for our Canadian women in terms of scores/ranking.

I've just watched the video in the Galcier Falls thread. Maddie looked totally uninterested. I'm not sure whether the lead she had from the SP had made her complacent. She needs to find her motivation again, quickly. At the moment, the Canadian Olympic spot is hers to lose, and she will lose it if she doesn't put up the fight needed and others do.

I attended the Philadelphia comp yesterday and had the pleasure of seeing Gabby Daleman live for the first time. Though there were some errors, there was no doubt in my mind that this is an elite level competitor. Her jumps are huge and powerful with great height, she has great performance quality, and I loved the little touches she included in her choreo sequence. I was impressed!

Imagine seeing her at her peak level... I was there at Nationals when all 3, Kaetlyn, Gabby and Alaine competed... something else.
Gabby is indeed super powerful with big jumps. She can jump high but what is even more impressive is how "far" she can jump, for instance in her 3-3 combo... the first jump is usually very long and the second very high.

Let's hope that with so many SR ladies now going for all the triples and triple combos we can get back to the days when we had 3 or more ladies all going for the top of the National Podium. Of course back then they knew that at least the top 2 at Nationals would be going on to worlds. So not as much pressure to win.

Does the US domestic competition (Glacier fall and Philadelphia) count for the 166 benchmark for the Canadian ladies ?

If it count, I would be very happy because Madeline Schizas, Amy Shao Ning Yang and Gabrielle Daleman all surpass the 166 benchmark.
I hope that all of those 3 ladies will get a Challenger assignment.

I think they'd count as domestic since they aren't international and a competition is a competition.

Maddie will be getting a Challenger since she has GP assignments and Challenger assignments are prioritized for skaters with GP assignments. She said in her interview with Robert Brodie that she wants to do two Challengers this season in the fall.

For Amy and Gabrielle, I think it'll depend on how they do at the next competitions (BC Summerskate for Amy, Skate Ontario August for Gabrielle.) Amy has been inconsistent, so I think if she scores in the 160s she'll get one. Gabrielle will have more direct competition in Ontario (Breken and Kaiya for the TBD spot), so that will make it interesting.

A little off topic and from a long time ago...there was a US Pro skater Allen Schramm who had the same vibe as Anthony Paradis. What do you think from the video? Ideas for AP?
Love the music and theme.

I enjoyed watching him, I like his style :) I liked how he came out of the flying sit spin into a pose..

Happy with these assignments though Ksenia will have a hard time without a 3-3 combo and a stable 3 loop in the SP. I wish her a great skate nevertheless.

I think they share the intensity/spooky style.
I find them quite different in many other aspects though. Schramm seems more powerful in his movements. Anthony much more flexible.
Schramm seems more like he is going with the flow, almost improvising. Anthony clearly has given a lot of thought about his choreography.
I read somewhere Schramm inspired Gary Beacom. I think that's the missing link to get to Anthony. Well, there are other links like Toller Cranston and even Shawn Sawyer. I didn't know Schramm, way before my time, so thank you for this.

Ksenia Krouzkevitch

Yes. Ksenia deserves this spot. I don’t care that she doesn’t have a 3Lo or 3T. She earned her spot by placing 2nd at Nationals and 3rd at NextGen

I think I should clarify my point. Often, we have had skaters without a 3-3 combo or a stable "required solo triple jump" but for Ksenia, it's both. It is bad timing for this year. At the same time, she does indeed constantly performs well despite this and I am happy for her and looking forward to seeing her compete.
