2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Perhaps other fans would mention other contenders too... My point is more to show that Maddie is not the automatic pick though her body of work is definitely far ahead the others. And my second point is that Gabby could finish anywhere from 1st to 10th at Nationals... as the competition has gotten very tight these last couple years.
Maddie certainly has a superior body of work compared to the others, but I'm not sure that will withstand good performances from the others in contention. She's had solid results, but none I can recall as spectacular, at least not recently internationally. Perhaps someone can remind me.

In swimming, my other athletic passion, we talk about records being "soft." Meaning they stand... perhaps they've stood for a long time... but they are vulnerable to being overtaken soon. I think the Canadian Ladies title is soft. There are, as you mention, a number of women who are building up a head of steam (sure, my post focused on Gabby, but I acknowledge you are correct in bringing others into the discussion). How will Maddie respond? We'll see.

If only our men followed that trend....

I am really excited to see Roman this week at Cranberry, and Steven, too.

And I was REALLY glad to see so many Canadian juniors on the entry list. And, honestly, I was surprised.

It is definitely Maddie's to lose. At the same time, if she had a bad performance at Nationals, and finished off the podium, it would be hard to also send her to the Olympics. If she's on the podium, with a decent skate in either segment, she will be chosen. IMHO

I think Skate Canada realized one thing over this quad cycle. If you don't send your skaters out, nothing good will come out of it... It's like this entire generation was sacrificed in some way... except perhaps for the really top skaters like Piper and Paul and Max and Deanna...

They are now sending out juniors to remediate this bad situation and aim for 2030... At least, that's what I am thinking.

Let’s also not discount the lost years of training through the pandemic

Clearly, it also had an effect considering that some provinces in Canada had the longest lockdowns compared to other places on the planet and also some strict rules applied for a long time (some countries had much stricter rules but for shorter periods of time)....

I'll add that with Cranberry Cup, only the Senior entries are counted as an assignment by Skate Canada on the International Assignments page. Junior/Novice skaters are given permission to enter, not assigned by Skate Canada from what I understand. Medals still count for the season medal count page though.

Yes and yes.

It should count for international scores though, so I'm getting my candles out for 🕯️204🕯️to get some Challenger assignments for the men.

Are these 🕯️ for John Kim?
If so, it worked.

Athletes like John is the reason I was upset they have already picked Stephen for Skate Canada. It should have been TBD just like the ladies.

Good luck to John tmrw!
Also, good luck to our Juniors tmrw, as well

I think Lia's team to sign her up for two separate events at Cranberry was a good idea. It looks like IMO that they are trying to give her opportunities to try the 3A in the competition environment which makes me think she can land it pretty consistently in practice.

John will need 219 since he's in a domestic competition, so he'll need an unofficial PB in the free to get that. I'll give him a🕯️and hopefully he can have a solid free tomorrow.

The 🕯️204🕯️is for the Juniors since they're in international. Anthony and Grayson hit the benchmarks last season, I'm hoping for David and Edward to hit them here.

I agree. She is pretty stubborn, which is refreshing for a Canadian athlete. She said she wants to be the first Canadian lady to land the 3A, and seeing her determination is so inspiring.

Got it. Wow! 204 is high for our junior boys. Ok. Nice!! Good to know.
Go Canada 🇨🇦!!!
So much going on for our Canadian figure skaters. I wish we had more events in NA.

Robert Brodie interviews Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud:
Added Pereira: “I feel like we laid a very good foundation for the start of the season. Clearly showed that our elements were prepared and we were able to get some good feedback from the tech(nical) and local judges, which we’ll just use to improve everything. Just to have that feedback early on is going to set us up well for high-performance camp (at the end of August) and for our first Challenger (they’re intending that to be Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany), just to have that information now so we can really have the time to build on it.”
