2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I'm so happy about Piper and Paul's medal. They definitely created "the moment" of the free dance for me.

I'm selfishly grateful to them because I can now relax and enjoy the rest of the competitions. Of course I want the Canadian skaters to do well, but I don't expect any more medals, and medal/no medal (or for some people gold/silver) is the most nerve-racking divide. So I will watch the rest of the competitions and cheer on my favorites (Canadian and other) without becoming too over-invested.

Jackie Wong says their practice looked totally normal and just from seeing this one wouldn't know they were close to not making it there.

Also a thread of what's been said in the mixed zone:

Both excited and nervous to watch the men's Free. So want Stephen to have a skate like he did in the Team event... or maybe even a bit better. If he does that he should set himself up well for top ten at worlds. He is an example of sending our skaters out. He was well seen this season and because of his results got to do a non-host GP where he won a medal. He also shows that consistency is important with getting high marks.

WOW - Just getting back form dinner here and checked the results. I am in shock. In fact I didn't see Stephen's name at first in the free skate list, cause I was looking further down the list. This really sets Gogo up for worlds. Will have to go and watch some of the performances now. Just think if Stephen had the short he did in the Team event he would have gotten the bronze medal.

If you had told Stephen he'd be fifth at his first Olympics, he'd take that every day of the week.

Conversely, if he had just landed that triple loop cleanly, he would be an Olympic bronze medalist, and that's surely going to sting a little.
I kind of hope that Stephen hasn't realised that a clean 3Lo or a higher spin level might have got him a medal. I would like him to be able to really enjoy the huge success he has just had at the Olympics, rather than have him feeling like it wasn't quite good enough.
