2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Congratulations Team Canada! 🇨🇦 gold and silver in junior pairs!

They do have one more season, as they also raised the upper limit for the women in pairs :)

Jazmine and Kieran, as well as Ava and Yohnatan, also technically have another Junior-eligible season, but I think this is their safest bet at getting a Sr GP assignment outside of host spots, especially because some pairs who are guaranteed spots will retire.
I think Jazmine and Kieran would be better off staying junior next season, they would struggle jump wise moving up. I like them a lot.

I agree.

Ava and Yoni could definitely skate senior all year and if they don't make the world team/ 4cc team, skate at JWC but Jazzy and Kiki do not have a triple jump and without that, there is no point going senior. They do try and land from time to time throw 3s, 3loop and 3lutz... so that's really good but they could get them more secure. They also haven't won JWC so why not try for gold. Of course, I do expect the Chinese pairs to be dominant next season but we expected them to win medals this time around, and it didn't happen.

It’s great they got medals, however, I find it a little embarrassing it’s possible to get medals with so many errors. Oh well, nobody was error free. I thought the Ukrainian team should have placed higher. I didn’t see their short so don’t know what happened there. Canada top teams in juniors are almost seniors. Idk how they will make the next steps, maybe I am being to pessimistic
Especially when you consider that the Georgian pair we're the world to Junior Champions a year ago.... yes, they were older and more experienced and probably a little overqualified for World Juniors - but I would agree that although I am stoked for the canadians, the competition wasn't particularly impressive...

"probably overqualified for junior worlds??" It was embarrassing for them they were there last season, they made the gp final, european medalists, and were 4th at worlds that year and a year later olympic medalists. Genuinely they made junior world pairs unwatchable because they should not have been allowed to compete.

Well. A big congratulations to our two Canadian Pairs teams. Great sportsmanship between these two teams. I was so happy with this result. Yohnathan was on fire. Ava needs some work on that 3T. I think they should move up to Seniors and just focus on improving little by little. Jazmine did the best she could. I think they should stay in juniors for one more season.

@saine How many spots did we earn for JGP pairs for next season? Our baby pairs teams will have many opportunities next season. I hope to see more pair teams now 😝

Megan!! I thought she had that 3Lo. I didn’t see a q on the 3T. Her skating skills did seem worse than usual. She did her best and was the right athlete to send since we couldn’t send Minsol or Victoria. With 4 spots, NextGen will be a bloodbath. Skate Canada will most likely send Lia to two JGP events. However, if Minsol also gets two, this basically eliminates Victoria and Quinn (who improved so much). Next season isn’t looking too good especially knowing that if they skate 155 domestically, they will just get one event. This is why Megan was ranked so low. The European athletes compete all the time which leads to higher placement in the flight standings.

3 spots at 4 events.. the maximum if I am not mistaken... so plenty more than what Skate Canada will use

So happy for our Pairs teams. I really like the 3rd team here. Once they get the bigger tricks under their belts they will be a force. They seem to have the it factor. To me even more then the new Jr world champs.
I agree about the 3rd team. I find the 1st team lack an energy/vibe between them. Not sure how to explain it. Rhe 2nd team have the right energy but not the technical., I wonder if they will ever get that.

I disagree, while Jazy and KiKi are expressive. I find the connection with Ava and Yoni to be better.

And once again, Canada picking their favorites in contrast to what the international panel has scored comes back to bite them in the *ss.
wow... summer and nick are very far from their SB... I guess they had some mishap. 3 spots will not happen I am afraid

I would have never imagined Summer and Nick in the first warm-up group. We may disagree with Skate Canada's selection but at the same time, I am sure nobody saw that one coming.

We should have send Viktoria Barakhtina to Junior World. It's a shame that for watever reason that she couldn't go to Junior World, she would have make the Free skate easily and earn more spot for the canadian girls at JGP.

I think David Bondar did very well considering the very short notice. He took out the quad toe to skate clean and the four first jumping passes, including the two triple axels were good. He ran out of steam so the landings in the second half were iffy but I would think it's normal considering he was not expecting to be skating a long program and working on new jumps and combos lately.

So I am very proud of him. It would have been nice if he had gotten in the top ten for spots but whatever. He did well.
