2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Agree it was perfect and I sort of wish they would not dance it again at Worlds in case it doesn't come across with that same magical moment as it did at the Olympics. Instead bring back one of their old programs like Wuthering Heights to Worlds.
there is not enough time to bring back an old program... I think nobody will bring the Olympic magic anyway... because it's just worlds :).

Just playing catch up on JWC entries after recovering from the Olympics 😂 But do we know why Skate Canada is sending Megan instead of Victoria (or even Quinn, who has scored higher than Megan internationally this year)? Apparently not a visa issue for VB but not sure I understand why SC would send someone who's least likely of the main junior eligible options to make the free (junior women is going to be such a bloodbath 💀) ...

We suspect that Viktoria only has a Russian passport. Estonia's borders are closed to Russians, and have been for a while

Veselukhin (of Aboian/Veselukhin) is the same though, and seems to have been able to get in alright. It's just a very strange situation, especially picking Megan over both Victoria and Quinn.

I cannot talk about passport issues. I was disappointed because Victoria was our strongest case to make the LP and perhaps even get near top ten. We need spots for the new generation of junior skaters emerging. Lia Cho needs spots :). and she's not alone.

However, I think Megan got the nod because of her performance at Nationals. She was very good there.

Welcome to the board :)

With Victoria, she was initially named to the Junior Worlds team after Nationals. I think it's more a case of Skate Canada would have sent Victoria if they could, and they couldn't for whatever reason.

With Quinn, Megan had a stronger short than her at both Challenge and Nationals. Quinn jumps a 3-2 in the short, so she would have to go absolutely clean to qualify for the free. She's done well this season, but it would be a lot of pressure to put her under.

Very good day for Canadian skaters at JWC

Jazzy and Kiki are first after the SP, neck and neck with Ava and Jono. The Chinese team, perhaps the favourites to win, are 4 points behind. So, though they have a quad twist, the margin after the short could be enough. Of course, a lot of things can happen still.

Julia and Étienne are in 9th place.

David Bondar skated quite well. A couple scratchy landings but clean. I think he is 14th. If he does well in the LP, and he certainly can with his powerful quad toe, he could make up some ground which would be amazing for spots next year. Go David B !

I just caught up.

The Pairs competition was amazing for us.

1st and 2nd. Small medals well earned.

I applauded when Jazmine landed her 2A. The 3Lz throw was so low.

Yohnathan and Ava 👏
Less pressure for them to be in 2nd

I would be ecstatic to see us nab two medals in pairs

Also, David B fought and 14th place is good. It is just so hard to grab a top ten spot when the Japanese, Koreans and Americans take 8/10 spots. This means we have to fight for the two spots. This is difficult cause the New Zealand and Belgium skater are fabulous. Good luck in the free skate. He is in contention and close though. Im happy for him.

oh boy.... this is exactly what I feared. Next year will be tough for our young women.
Honestly Megan didn't skate badly per se. She fell on the 3L, but her 3-3 and everything else was great. She was early to start and has ZERO recognition with the judges so low PCS and GOE.

I realize she was injured earlier this season, but this is the exact issue with not getting our skaters out there more.

Yup... I feared that one too... It's nice that Skate Canada shares the wealth with the very few assignments we get but things have changed. Since the eligibility for senior is older, Skate Canada needs to build the career of the junior skaters with more assignments so they get better exposure. If Canada gets 4 spots only, and in that sense, it should be 2 spots per skater. Only 2 would get JGP assignments but at least have a chance to finish higher and get better recognition.

yup. exactly. I was disappointed that Victoria couldn't go and then, though I really like Megan and her big jumps, I was wondering if that was the right choice. Reese is known as a short program skater but she may have made the free at least. Megan's loop has not been very stable.

Oh well.. easy to say now. I am not surprised though.

Things will change anyway. I can see how Lia's arrival on the circuit will move things forward for Canadian skaters.

Too bad for Megan, and Canada, and our young skaters. Skate Canada needs to send them out to other Jr comps though. We do have some good lady skaters, but they are not used to the big stage and international judges are not used to them. Look at Fee Ann at 4CC - she had too good skates but did not get rewarded like she should have simply because she was not known. 1st Maddie does not make the free at the Olympics and now Megan. This does not look good on the world stage.

Protocols indicate a q on Megan's 3t. That didn't help either. I was wondering how one mistake killed her Q but it was in fact more than that.

Rotation issue negating the GOE on the combo, the fall and then a low lever 2 on the steps. Considering it was tight, it was too much to handle. However, though I didn't check the event, it seems like both Estonian skaters also had their share of mistakes but both qualified. I guess home worlds may have helped here but I am fine to be corrected if indeed those who watched the event believe that they were scored fairly. Hopefully, pairs will be better for Canada.
