I've seen something like this coming. They haven't competed all season after all...the link doesn't work for me though, I get an error message

Mai Mihara has posted on the Sysmex instagram account that the upcoming nationals will be her last, so she's definitely retiring after the season.

Kai Jagoda has just announced his retirement from skating on instagram a few days after getting a 3. place at the German nationals.

I think anybody watching the Bosphorus Cup a few weeks ago knew this was coming. It was obvious from everything that was happening in the results area after he did his FS that it was a goodbye competition.

Here is what I wrote at the time:

Burak DEMIRBOĞA (TUR) wearing all black and doing a Notre Dame programme.

Oh no. He's had a hard fall and hurt himself.

He's gone over to the officials. Now he's gone over to the gate, doubled up in pain.

Looking through the get, there's a whole crowd around him.

Now they've cut away to the results area.

Back to the main camera, and he's back on the ice.

I think he's going to restart.

It's taking a while.

Yes. there's the music! He's going again.

He just about landed the first jump. But the next one was beautiful.

And no problems for the rest of the programme.

Wow! How did he do that?!

Talk about cheers when he finished! Now that is what I call support from the audience.

He struggled to sit down in the chair.

EIGHT youngsters have joined him and his coach in the results area.

One of them has now stood in front of the camera, showing him a sign.

I wonder if this is his swansong competition.

I'm sure this is not the way he would want it to end if it is.

All the kids are holding up signs to the camera.

I don't understand Turkish, but everything that is happening is making me pretty sure that this is his swansong.

He goes into 3rd position overall.

WELL DONE BURAK!!!

As it turned out, that was just his final competition in Istanbul, rather than his final competition full stop.

But how fitting it was that he should bow out at Nationals in his hometown.

I wish him all the best for the future.

Letizia Roscher and Luis Schuster (Germany, Pairs) have split.

^^ Are Roscher/ Schuster both planning to continue in pairs? I can't read German, despite prior studies in college.

It's not clear. if I read correctly, they are splitting ways, and are taking different paths. It doesn't say if either/both of them are continuing with skating or not. At the end, they say that the future is uncertain. The rest of the post is mostly thanking everyone.

Didn't Luis suffer from quite a few injuries during the last couple of years? It's a pity. I remember them winning a GP medal once, before those injuries. Nothing is mentioned about that though. I will miss them.

It is amazing to me how many skaters , teams, retire, split years ago and keep skating or stop, unrefined or unsolicited. They keep coming years after they split or retire

That explains a lot. I had been wondering why she wasn't at Nationals last month.

I agree - it is sad when injuries bring an end to an athlete's career. Especially when they are so young.

All the best for whatever the future holds, Ava Marie.

Oh. I always thought Ava Marie was the wee sister of Pairs skater Miriam ZIEGLER (AUT).

Unless I'm remembering things totally wrong, I'm pretty sure Miriam did have a younger sister that also skated. So, when Ava Marie started appearing on the international circuit, I must have got them confused. And it stuck that way in my head.

That I didn't twig just shows how much attention I pay to American skating!

Sorry about that.
