We're not even really certain of Parkman's citizenship status, so McBeath/Parkman might be out of contention anyway.

If they get that third spot, the contenders for 3 Olympic spots would be out of the group of Kam/O'Shea, Chan/Howe, Plazas/Fernandez, Shin/Nagy, and Flores/Wang. Of course, Kam/O'Shea and Chan/Howe would be the top two contenders in that group, and that third spot being the battle.

ETA: My mind completely blanked on Flores/Wang earlier.
Daniil Parkman does not have U.S. citizenship. I agree with @TontoK that
aside from Daniil's step out on his jump landing, he and Katie were faster and smoother than Shin/Nagy and Lia/ Trennt. The scoring is always partly about status, especially when the execution and talent level are generally close among competitors. Lia/Trennt have higher status as a team who have been to Worlds multiple times, vs two teams who have yet to compete at Worlds together.

It's fairly obvious that Shin/ Nagy have full backing by usfigsk, especially since it was usfigsk who put S/N together and played a role in sending them to train with Bruno Marcotte. If S/N skate decently enough, they will be sent to Worlds and Olympics should a third spot be won in Beijing. I think the U.S. will probably send Chan/ Howe to the Olympic qualifier, if they are in good form. Or Shin/ Nagy if they are looking strong enough. McBeath/ Parkman are a bit better than S/N right now, IMO, especially with their 3-twist and flow-out on their throws. But M/P are not as favored as S/N, likely in part due to Daniil not yet having U.S. citizenship, but also because usfigsk are more fully invested in S/N succeeding.

S/N have the least experience together as a pairs team. The other two sr pairs teams at Glacier Falls have been together about the same length of time, I believe: about 2 years. All three teams have not yet developed a unified personality. Shin/ Nagy have improved their twist and they have some better choreo moves in both programs (created with a different choreo team: Zimmerman, Fontana, Kerr). I like S/N's short program Godfather music better than the overused music by the Irrepressibles for their fp. Audrey needs better runout on her throw jump landings and they need to bring their jumping passes closer together, along with honing their lifts. I wish S/N had more oomph and connection. Lia/ Trennt seemed to have more creative, ambitious programs last season that challenged them. I liked M/P's sp and I hope it grows stronger over the season.
