Now that is how you start a day of skating off!

The first wee boy, from Hungary, was skating to "I Was Made For Loving You" by Kiss!

He was wearing a black costume, with a white sash. No face paint, though.

And the second wee boy, from Croatia, was skating to the "Ghostbusters" theme tune.

As somebody who loved "Ghostbusters" when they were a kid, I'm kinda disappointed that he is not wearing a beige boiler suit. Instead he is wearing all black.

Now I'm thinking of the "Ghostbusters" programme that Vayana Hristova did a few years ago. I wonder when we are going to see her and her new Pairs partner in action.

Anyway, this boy has a coach and a wee girl sitting with him. And both youngsters are wearing crowns!

He goes into second position.

Either there has been a withdrawal, or I must have mis-counted earlier. There were only 2 boys. Because now have a girl on the ice.

I was going to comment about the first wee girl not going to the results area, and us looking at an empty sofa for ages.

But then, after her scores were announced, we found out why. She was at the gate supporting her team-mate, who was on next.

That's lovely!

Awwww. When the second skater finished, she, the first skater and their coach had a massive group hug at the gate! :ghug:

And then the three of them went to the results area, and the two wee girls put on the crowns and held up the heart.

Skater #2 goes into the lead.

What am I like?! I am trying to convince myself that there was a typing error when the name of the Hungarian girl that finished Group 1 was put into the system. That her surname is actually O'Berna, and that she has Irish heritage.

She goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

That was funny. Skater #8, from Hungary, tried on all the crowns, but none of them would sit on her head because of the way her hair is done up in a bun at the back. So, she had to give up.

She goes into 2nd position.

I should add, the three Hungarians that are going back-to-back in Group 2, of which Skater #8 is the middle skater, are all team-mates. And whereas Skater #8 was sitting on her own, Skater #7 had a smaller wee girl with her.

I was going to ask if we are having a resurfacing now, because the announcer hadn't called the Group 3 skaters to the ice. But then I spotted a whole pile of wee girls on the ice beside the boards just itching to start their Warm-Up.

That was a fun programme by Skater #11, from Slovenia, to start the final group with. I assume the song is from the stage version of "The Lion King", because I heard the name "Mufasa" but didn't recognise the song (I have only seen the film versions).

She was wearing an orange dress, and when you saw it close up afterwards in the results area, there was a picture of Mufasa and Simba on the front of it.

She goes into 5th position.

Is nothing sacred any more?! Does every piece of music have to get the "epic" treatment?!

The penultimate skater, Skater #16 from Austria, was doing an "Aladdin" programme. And it started with an "epic" version of "Arabian Nights". Well, parts of the tune were "epic". The other parts sounded like it was being played in a bubble. It was so surreal.

The piece of music played in the second half was not messed about with.

She was dressed in a Princess Jasmine inspired light blue dress.

She goes into 9th position.

Zamboni time. And then over to the ISU part of the event, which begins with the first Pairs competition of the week, for the Advanced Novices.

CaroLiza_fan

We now begin an Advanced Novice triple-bill. 1 Pairs partnership doing their SP; followed by 3 boys doing their FS; followed by 31 girls doing their FS.

Drat! That resurfacing was quicker than I expected. I missed the Warm-Up.

And now there are music issues. They were in position for ages, and then had to go over to the panel.

Anastasia GOSCHESCHECK / Karl-Siegfried GOSCHESCHECK (AUT) were both wearing black. Anastasia a beautiful dress with gold pattern at the top. And Karl-Siegfried a vest and trousers.

As soon as you saw them, you knew that they weren't twins. According to the description of a video I found of them, he is 4 years older than her.

Although they were way out of sync on the side-by-side spins, on the whole they were good.

I enjoyed them.

But, as soon as they came off the ice, the dreaded "stream suspended" message appeared.

Well, at least we know they are going to lead going into the FS, as they are the only entries. But it would have been nice to see if they played with the crowns.

CaroLiza_fan

Sorry, I was sorting out the links for the streams for the Volvo Open Cup.

Aaron GRILJ (AUT) was wearing a cream short, with black waistcoat and black trousers. I always love it when somebody skates to that song.

He and Liora were having fun in the results area, while their coach sat alongside. At one stage, Aaron put on two crowns at once!

He went into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Baptiste GELLON (FRA) was wearing a very similar costume, excapt that his shirt was white. He was skating to "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave.

He was sat on his own in the results area, as the two French boys have the same coach. And he just sat there doing nothing.

He went into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Lorenzo HEURTEBIS (FRA) was wearing a blue top with white trim, and black trousers.

Major drama! Just as he landed a jump halfway through the programme, the music stopped. And he instantly looked up as if to say "for goodness sake!" He then went straight to the panel to sort it out.

It took a long time to get it going again, and he was back and forth to the panel a few times. And when they did get the music going, he had to wait around for a long time for it to reach the point that he stopped at.

Despite all this, he was still really good!

He wins both the FS and overall.

Straight onto the girls.

CaroLiza_fan

We start with Rita Emese KELLER (AUT), who is wearing a beautiful purple dress. And skating to an epic version of "You Don't Own Me", followed by the real "7 Nation Army".

Not a bad start to the comeptition.

No antics in the results area. Just her and her coach sitting there. But then Rita gets somebody out of shot to hand her a bottle of water.

She goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Mmmmm. The announcer pronounced the "t" at the end of Naomi GUYOT (FRA)'s surname. She must have momentarily forgot that the skater was a French speaker rather than a German speaker.

Naomi was wearing a jumpsuit where the top half was blue and white at the bottom half was black.

I was really enjoying the first song, "I Love You" by Woodkid. It was beautiful. But then it was replaced by an instrumental of "Run Boy Run".

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the programme.

She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.
