2025 JGP Riga Cup: General Info and Pregame Chat

2025 JGP Riga Cup is the first of seven individual events of the 2025-26 Junior Grand Prix series and will take place August 20-23, 2025, in Riga, Latvia. The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of seven international junior invitational events during the fall culminating with the 2025-26 ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December 2025.

This event will feature the Singles & Pair skating and Ice Dance disciplines and will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations, and relevant ISU Communications.

Participation in the seven events and the Final of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is open to all Competitors who belong to an ISU Member and qualify with regard to eligibility according to Rule 102, provided their ages fall within the limits specified in Rule 108, paragraph 3. b) and they meet the participation, citizenship and residency requirements in Rule 109 and ISU Communication 2526 or any update of this Communication.

Interesting to see the general selection pool for some of these countries and also some new ice dance & pairs teams (one of which I predicted, so I'm feeling good about myself right now).

Just to make clear, I had actually done a "specific website" search on Google before I asked on here, but the pages didn't come up in the results. I guess it was too soon after the pages had been created for them to be found by the search engines.

Now that I see the addresses of the pages for each category, the adresses are not actually hard to figure out yourself. Unfortunately, I had just checked the index page for last year's Riga Cup, seen that it was a string of numbers, and realised that it would not be possible to figure out this year's address from it. I never thought of clicking through to the category pages and checking their addresses.

I had plans for Riga last year, maybe this year it will come to fruition...The only possible alternative is Varese if I want to do 2 JGPs. Hm.
Thinking of it (especially now I'm inspired by Veillon/Brandys FD costumes...) plus...maybe the sooner I see live skating, the quicker I come out of existential slump.

Not reflected in the official entries yet, but may be coming is Jazmine Desrochers/Kieran Thrasher are the only Canadian entries for Riga who aren't confirmed on the Skate Canada international assignments page. Good.

I was getting concerned when Cyprus didn't use the first of their five Ladies slots because, with two skaters, they are only going to be able to make use of four of the slots. And in that situation it would be wiser to plan to use the first four and keep the last one as the spare, in case something happens that neither girl is able to do one of the earlier events.

It's a good move. They will simply skate later. Now that Martina and Charly have split, Skate Canada does not need to put Desrochers/Trasher facing Kemp/Elizarov... So they are just giving the first two JGPS to the latter and we will see Jazzy and Kiki at the last couple events, which will give them a little bit more time. For once, Skate Canada is reactive !
