2025 JGP Riga Cup: General Info and Pregame Chat

Maybe a stupid question, but...can someone who attended events in Volvo Arena describe level of coldness inside? I've heard it's quite cold inside, so I will appreciate any impressions in response, to be prepared/pack accordingly (thanks in advance!!)

Hello! Been reading these forums for so long, and now after seeing this question I finally decided to register here.
As someone from Riga, who knows Volvo ice rink quite well and have attended JGP last year, I can say that yes, it is indeed cold inside. Better be prepared. Last year I was putting a wool scarf on the seat to make it warmer and had to wear almost a winter outfit with a few layers. It was especially a crazy contrast comparing to the outside +30°C at the time.
Also, last year it was a free event, but this year we'll need to buy tickets (~5€ per day).

You are the best!!! Thank you so much for confirming what I heard/saw about the rink, now I know how to pack (sort of, with half of carry on planned to be flower crowns for skaters hehe)

🇨🇾Varvara Abramkina added to Women

And she has now been removed. 😞

Given that Marilena and Stefania are down to be competing in Sheffield on the same days, maybe the Fed didn't want to split their attention.

I know, I'm clutching at straws to work out what is going on!

It's preferable than the alternative explanation - that Varvara has an injury and there is uncertainty over whether she's fit enough to compete or not.

Whatever the case, I hope that she is fully ready whenever we do get to see her compete.

EDIT: I see Varvara has also been removed as the alternate to Vasilisa at the Junior GP in Varese, so that does indicate that Varvara being removed from the entries here is something to do with her rather than to do with the clash with the Robin Cousins Cup.

Coldest ice rink I've ever been to, last year even some competitors were commenting on the temperatures. I was wearing the warmest clothes I brought and I'm usually one of the least bundled up people in a rink. IDK what your temperature tolerance is, but I especially recommend warm socks/shoes with thick soles - day 1 I wore sneakers and was so cold I returned to the hotel during a break to switch them out.

Hm, I'm usually one who is always warm, regardless of the temperature, but now I'm curious mixed with frightened about what awaits in Riga
Thank you nonetheless for valuable insight/advice, I truly appreciate it!
