2025 Skate Canada: General Info and Pregame Chat

I was looking at the schedule to see when we need to tarevl, and I saw that there is no gala. The competition is stretched out from Fri to Sun, so I guess they didn't have enough ice for both training and competing? So sad, after seeing Malinin's exhibition skate last night.

I just realized that Skate Canada is going to be a big event in women for States, Japan and Canada, each of which fielded 3 contenders for Oly spot to see which one holds up better before international judging panel. Well, maybe not Japan since I dunno if the third women they have in Saskatoon is in the running, but Nakai vs Chiba is a Japanese question. So, a bit of a compensation for 11 women field (unless sub comes in last minute).

I just looked up the hotel on Google Maps. It showed that using public transportation to get from the Sask Tel Centre to the hotel at this time (7:30 pm Pacific Daylight time—I assume maybe 2 hours later in Saskatoon?) would take over 9 hours. Interesting

Saskatoon has poor transit out to the industrial area which is where Sasktel Centre is. I read somewhere that the Bess offered shuttle service to the venue last time around, maybe they will again? But there are always taxis close to the Bess. It would be about a 10-15 min car ride. Just an hour's difference right now until the time change, 2 hr time difference between us and Ont.

Good restaurants in the downtown area, Earl's, St. Tropiz, Golden Pagoda (Burmese food), and there is a tim's about a block away from the Bess, deadly Dan's close to downtown, same as Prairie Sun on broadway. You won't starve.

They could only replace another American team. I think the only event with just 2 American dance teams was France, and that was their event, so any withdrawal there wouldn't have helped anyway.

Americans are topped out as are Canadians. L/Q fortunately go as Koreans for their athletic citizenship.

Technically it is Pate/Bye, but I don't think there can be 4 US teams in one GP event

I think Skate Canada is not being strategic again. Why not rush to make sure they invite a woman ? Considering that the next in line are Canadians, they should hurry up, fill their spot, removing another skater from the sub list that is placed ahead of their own ?

Am I missing something ?

Ahsun has had the spot here right from the beginning. She was added to NHK for a WD in this competition. We don't have a full roster because Nina Pinzarrone has withdrawn and no replacement has been announced as of today.
