2025 Skate to Milano (Olympic Qualifier) | Sep 19-21

But, I would love to be able to watch in the company of the British Eurosport guys again. I am still bitter that you guys living on the continent can get the British Eurosport commentary, but those of us back home in the British Isles can't any more.
I am with you there. I live in Austria and sometime Chris Howarth gets to commentate on his own, but I used to like the combination of him with Simon Reed because they did a great job together.

In 2018 it was Belinda Noonan and she had the habit of commenting on virtually every single move so I had to mute her until the end of the performances. I didn't mind hearing her comments then, but not during the actual performances, providing an 'Idiot's Guide to Figure Skating.'

I am most nervous for Donovan CARRILLO MEX, Kyrylo MARSAK UKR, Audrey SHIN / Balazs NAGY USA , Giulia Isabella PAOLINO / Andrea TUBA ITA, Mariia PINCHUK / Mykyta POGORIELOV UKR, Utana YOSHIDA / Masaya MORITA JPN, Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA POL, Milla Ruud REITAN / Nikolaj MAJOROV SWE and Sofia VAL / Asaf KAZIMOV ESP.🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

Who are you most anxious for?

I will join you later with the event already in progress. Best wishes to everyone!

I'm not too invested for any of the skaters in particular, but I am a bit anxious for the ones who are attempting to qualify a complete team for the Team Event without needing the additional athletes quota. Nagaoka/Moriguchi too, I'd like them to qualify the second spot for Japan.

Really want Donovan to qualify! Also hoping for Gamez/Korovin although I know it's a long shot. If they can land in the top five, there will still be hope.

I am wondering about Petrosian and Gumennik. I am pretty sure they will qualify, but IF their results are added to the Seasons Bests List, that might be important for next season...if things change.

I am rooting for Josefin, but I don't think she will q. But the Olympics needs her....

I also don't think Donovan will q unfortunately. Pity. I want Genrikh to q, but that also feels uncertain...

I am not anxious for anyone... maybe perhaps Loena if I am really stretching myself to believe in anxiety for this event ;)
I am saving myself for later.
I'm with you. I'm not really worried about anything here too much.

I guess I'd like USA to earn that third Olympic spot, just from an unsightly nationalistic point of view. But I'm not going to cry either way.

I suppose I'll root hard for Donovan, just because I know that outcome is important to our friend @el henry

Someone needs to remind me. Am I rooting for any Finnish dance teams? I've lost track of citizenship issues.

I don't think this competition qualifies for ISU statistics with seasons best since it doesn't count for world standings and it isn't a Challenger any longer. I think you asked about that earlier. But if they do qualify for the Olympics then they will get those records regardless of whether this one counts.

Edit - It's in the Grand Prix announcement (page 3-4) what they count for Season's Best:
  • ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating
  • ISU Senior Grand Prix of Figure Skating
  • ISU Figure Skating Championships
  • ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2025/26
  • Olympic Winter Games or Youth Olympic Games (if applicable in the year concerned)
  • ISU Challenger Series Events

Thanks @saine

Edit: That makes sense. So if they score high here it wouldn't matter, it's the Olympic result that counts for SB and WS.

Views have been hovering around 3-4k viewers all day, I wonder if it will jump up when the best female skater in the world takes to the ice? 🤔

Oh no I am all in on playing. I'm itching to see how this all plays out. So many skaters I would love to get an Olympic spot, but not enough places for them all. I need to game this out so I can prepare for reality and understand why some will not get their dream to soften the blows.

Actually, when you put it like that, it would be helpful to go ahead and do the normal research that I do when making out my predictions. But, I'm still leaning towards not actually doing any predictions.

That said, when it comes nearer the time, I may find the temptation to play too much!

I gave in to temptation.

And it was eye-opening. There were skaters whose absolute PB's put them a lot further down the order than I would have imagined (including some of my kids 😞 ). And there were others that were higher than I expected. Hey, there was one skater who I was not familiar with at all who was well up in the Ladies.

Speaking of the girls, I actually changed my order from what I initially went for, because I suddenly realised that all the skaters I had gone for were born in Russia. And I didn't want it to look like that was intentional, because it wasn't. So, I took out the skater that I had put in because I keep hoping for her to regain her best form, even though her best days were so long ago that it is unlikely to happen. And instead put in the skater that who has been out of action through injury and whose style I don't particularly like, but who is likely to go through if she is fully fit.

But, I messed the whole thing up. I thought it was the Top 5 that went through in all categories. I didn't realise it was fewer that went through in Pairs and Dance. If I had, my predictions for those categories would have been completely different.

Oh, well.

I would love to see Ed Appleby qualify, (and also Jari Kessler, Davide Lewton Braine, Donovan Carillo and Valtter Virtanen). I'm not sure the odds are in favour of this, but I will keep hoping for this outcome!
