Shouldn't all entries be announced already as this comes so soon? I tried to find out but did not manage.

50 junior womeno_O. But I don't think I'll watch it as it belongs to European Criterium series which is streamed on paid platform SolidSport.

Quite a few skaters that I keep an eye out for competing here.

Good to see Leilah Patten (GBR), Varvara Abramkina (CYP), and the Hristova sisters (BUL) in the Junior Ladies entries. But, not surprising since they all belong to the host club.

But the Hristova sisters aren't the only set of sisters in Junior Ladies. There are three sets! We also have the Cusak sisters (HRV) and the Lengyelova sisters (SVK). I wonder what the most sets of sibllings we have ever had in a competition is. 🤔

By the way, I see three girls with the same surname from the same club in the Chicks II entries. I wonder if they are sisters. If they are, given that the age range of that competition is just 12 months, that would probably mean that they are triplets! 😲

And on that note, in case you are wondering, none of the Huber triplets (AUT) are entered for the Sofia Trophy.

But, it is good to see a healthy number of entries in the Ice Dance competitions. Even if they have messed them up. According to the entry lists, we have:

  • 4 male Junior Ice Dancers
  • 8 female Junior Ice Dancers
  • 10 female Senior Ice Dancers
  • 12 male Senior Ice Dancers

What seems to have happened is that some of the French partnerships have had the girls listed in Juniors and the corresponding boys listed in Seniors. :rolleye:

It's so funny the way they list the female and male members of the Ice Dance partnerships separately. It makes it look like they are holding Solo Dance competitions in the traditional format (you know, what we had until the ISU started poking their noses in and messed it up  ).

Looking forward to keeping an eye on what is happening via the results pages.

The 2025 Sofia Trophy is kicking off now with the first of the Interclub competitions.

There are actually two streams each day. There is a free stream with Bulgarian commentary which is geo-blocked outside of Bulgaria. And there is an international pay stream with no commentary, but unfortunately the page does not tell you the price.

Here is the link for today's Bulgarian livestream (Free):
https://ice-stars.tv/sofia-trophy/watch/sofia-trophy-2025-day-1-bulgaria

And here is the link for today's International livestream (€):
https://ice-stars.tv/sofia-trophy/watch/sofia-trophy-2025-day-2

As I am not watching, I will not be doing reminder posts at the start of each segment. However, all the information I normally put into them is in the OP, including links to time zone conversion tables for the time that each of the segments is due to start.

Hope this helps

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY :cheer:

Some teams in quest of TES minimums for ISU Championships improved their chances after Rhythm Dance

Juniors
Sipunova/Korjagin (Estonia) are 0.12 off from Junior Worlds minimums. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 38.80 (Bosphorus Cup) to 38.92
MacKenzie/Lockwood (Sweden) 1.15 off from the JW minimums. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 40.67 (Denkova-Staviski Cup) to 41.82
Kesti/Liednpohja (Finland) are 44.61 off. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 40.37 (Santa Claus Cup) to 44.61
Wheldon/Hammon (Great Britain) would need a 45.32 Free Dance

Seniors
Kudryavtesva/Karankevich (Cyprus) are 2.45 points off from Senior World minimums. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 56.64 (Nebelhorn Trophy) to 59.1.
Ritter/Brykalov (Azerbaijan) are 4.19 off from Senior World minimums. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 54.53 (Santa Claus Cup) to 58.71.
Stanley/Urano (Mexico) are 0.69 off the 4 Continents minimums. It's their last chance before the entry deadline. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 50.21 (EduSport Trophy) to 50.90.

No improvements for Ziabrowska/Judd (Romania). They are still 2.53 off from Senior World minimums. In Free Dance they need to improve their current top TES from 54.95(EduSport Trophy) to 57.48

Stanley/Urano got the TES for Four Continents
And Sipunova/Korjagin (EST) for Jr Worlds and Ritter/Brykalov (AZE) for Sr Worlds.

Scoring here was, for lack of better words, creative. Some teams got quite the boost, others not so much. Fradji/Fourneaux and Demougeot/le Mercier outscored both their international and national (!) personal best scores - and French domestic competitions are hardly conservative in their scoring. Orihara/Pirinen on the other hand must have done something to anger this panel, because they got their lowest PCS of the season by quite a bit.

Demougeot/le Mercier rarely score well at nationals - they don't seem to be terribly well liked domestically for some reason, they scored higher at Euros and worlds last season than at nationals. The fed should definitely be pushing them more imo (and as you said, we know they can bc it's not like they haven't scored L/B insanely high). Karine Arribert has actually talked about it a bit iirc in regards to several of her teams being deflated by the domestic scoring her teams are getting relatively to how they're perceived by international judges 🤷‍♀️ (there's a bit at the end of this interview about f/f https://www.skate-info-glace.com/2024-12-8-interviewfradjifourneaux/ )

Chiu Hei Cheung (HKG) has achieved the 4CC TES minimums and Nargiz Süleymanova (AZE) the Euros TES minimums after the Short. Additionally, Andre Zapata (ESP) has achieved Junior Worlds minimums (and is currently leading the Junior men's field).

With all due respect, while not all of Karine's teams are always getting the same boost domestically anymore, they certainly used to. They aren't scored super low domestically either.
In 2022/23, Demougeot/le Mercier scored over 6 points higher at Nationals than internationally. Since last season, they in particular have been scored on par domestically and internationally, but other Arribert teams have not.
Dupayage/Nabais got a massive boost at French Masters earlier this season, and at the same competition, Fradji/Fourneaux similarly received their highest score before the Sofia Trophy.

Of course, all of France's sports organisations have real political problems, but at the end, nobody cares until they are the ones on the short end of the stick. That's why there's never any long-term improvement or change, despite so many controversies and issues.

Nargiz Süleymanova must have had a good free skate, she just got the Worlds CTES with 61.35 TES in the free (116.09 for the free/172.80 total) :hap10:
Worlds will only be Nargiz's second ISU Championship, after her singular Jr Worlds appearance. She'll be one of the very few (small fed) skaters who compete at Worlds before ever competing at any Continental Championships. (Side note - It's not unlikely that the only German female single skaters at Worlds this year will not be representing Germany - Nargiz and Julia have their Worlds minimums already, Kristina doesn't)

Apart from her, Tobia Oeller and Flora Maria Schaller (both Austrians) achieved Jr Worlds minimums.
