I just rewinded to watch Hana, and wow!!! I could see her improvements and speed and skating skills already, training in Japan is starting to pay off

Japanese judges are always going to be most strict with "their own" skaters (with exceptions made for a few)
They know who Hana is and they tend to glaze skaters from abroad
This is why many fans accuse JSF and Japanese ISU judges of being a floor mat to other countries particularly the U.S.

Yikes!! I have to agree. Although I haven’t seen Hana’s performance yet. She wowed me at Junior Worlds, she shouldn’t be this high up I assume. That is why her coach was shocked.

I watched the videos and the scores always shock me. Haruna Murakami was the only one I thought was fair.
The rest of the scores are actually outrageously low.

K. Wada was spectacular and so was my favourite Ikura. They both got standing ovations. In my opinion, their PCS should even be higher than Mao Shimada. Mao is amazing though… but, Ikura and Kao were wow!!

Is Ikura Switching to Ice Dance. I thought she should have been sent to Junior Worlds over Ami Nakai. She just has the “it” factor and her SP here was outstanding and should have gotten 70+. Yes. It was that good. The Japanese federation needs to reward these type of skaters better.

Anyways, done with my rant.

Ouch.... I get that JSF wants to 'encourage' their skaters to improve, but I don't get why they need to glaze skaters from abroad
Just to rub more salt on the wound of their own skaters!? That seems unnecessarily cruel...

And speaking of Hana, great to see her got interviewed after the competition. I thought the fact that she's training in Japan means she's fluent in Japanese, but apparently not (yet). I wonder how her training goes with her having minimal Japanese? I wonder if Hiraike-sensei speaks at least some English

Unfortunately Miyazaki is too young to compete 2030 Winter Olympics.

You both made me realize that Karin is still a Novice A indeed. I wonder how she's allowed to compete as a junior here - is it usually allowed in Summer Cup? And are there other NvA skaters also skating as junior here?

And her missing 2030 Olympics... Ah, just like Mao missing the 2026 Olys. But if anything, Kaori has shown that it is definitely possible to go to multiple Olys in your career - in 2034 Olys she will be 21, exactly Kaori's age when she won bronze in 2022 Olys
