2026-27 Canadian Figure Skating

Paul Ayer
Although I recently obtained Mexican citizenship, representing Canada has always been my dream, and I want to pursue that goal with one of the strongest ice dance nations in the world.
That answers some of the questions we had.

Marko :
They have an 8 year plan for the O games.. which means he is definitely just starting the citizenship process.

ALL the new teams :

We want to be Canadian champions this year.

Lauriault Le Gac : not so fast.

and I still hope that Piper and Paul come back in time for Nationals to spice things up LOL :)

I created a poll about the four new teams

Nina Ouellette and Charly Laliberte-Laurent are back to training, it looks like one of them had ACL surgery from the caption.

If it's Charly, that may explain why the lift seems unsteady. Didn't he also have a shoulder surgery at some point ?

Gosh this sport is brutal.

Here is an article and thread for the new four ice dance teams:

I don't know which of them it was, but I also thought from the video that Charly was moving hesitantly and suspect that it might have been him. It was the skating bit which looked unsteady, rather than the actual lifting, and that then made the lift less stable.

Benchmarks for Senior international assignments are now up - https://skatecanada.ca/wp-content/u...enior-Challenger-and-International-Events.pdf

Consideration for an additional assignment now requires getting World's CTES on the first assignment. There are separate benchmarks for 2025-26 and 2026-27 scores.
They now expect skaters to get the WORLDS minimum on their first assignment? 😮 That is harsh!!! And of good way of stopping skaters from developing. It is more difficult for skaters to gain the CTES if they have less experience of international competition. How are skaters meant to gain that experience if they are only allowed to go out once?

I think they added it since they didn't have the criteria for additional assignments previously. I expected them to add some kind of TES criteria based on the wording for the 2025-26 Synchro assignment criteria (TES requirement in the short under Skate Canada monitoring). I wouldn't have gone with World's CTES in the first assignment though 😬

This will backfire horribly.

Something just below the 4CC minimums would have made sense to me, but not the Worlds CTES. Like @DemTuppesSeine I can see this backfiring in a year or two. This season they probably have enough skaters for Worlds, providing there aren't injuries, but it will be more difficult now for others to gain the minimums.

or maybe our skaters will be better than before. :).

yeah. I am hyper positive today LOL

but for ice dance, this is ridiculous. we all know how scoring grows while you compete in that discipline.

they raised the women's score while lowering pairs and men because of the new rules... I don't see why women can now jump one less combo and score higher than before but yeah.. whatever.

They kept the men's score the same, but honestly, even the lowered score for pairs seems higher than I would have set it with the new rules.

To be fair, I only looked at how Chen/Dong's Free Skate from Jr Worlds would score under the new rules (because China has a minimum score for JGP assignments that we were talking about in another thread) and they lost around 6-ish points in BV with the removal of an element and a third jump in the combination, so the three point reduction of the minimum score would only account for half of that.

Wow!! 😮
Maybe, they raised the standard for ladies due to us having too many attaining this benchmark domestically I think 🤔

I will memorize these scores now moving forward towards our domestic upcoming events.

I voted for LiLa because I can never root against my Zachary 😍 (he looks younger with more of a sparkle nowadays with his new partner).

yes I meant dance.. thanks for the correction but same difference.. how dare they raise women ?

and the reason is simple... too many of them are starting to reach the benchmark.. and honestly, that benchmark is not competitive internationally. so let's raise it and let's have our women skate better... BUT. I am still no happy about it ;)
