I am curious to know more about the Ice Dancers representing Hong Kong that we saw earlier. Both of them are down as being born in China. But the guy is from Shenzhen, which is just across the border from Hong Kong. So, I am wondering if he is actually from a HK family, but just happened to be born on the other side of the border. Kinda like Welsh Ice Dancer Marika Humphreys, who was born just across the border in Chester, England.

Anyway, back to the girls.

Well done Sofiia Dzepka, a beautiful skate. Really positive feedback from Ted and Mark. Plus a good reaction from the audience, that is bigger than I’d expect for a JGP.

I really enjoy her skating, both her programmes last year were fantastic. Hopefully she has a strong free skate.

She and her coach looked very happy with her score. Very nice crowns for both.

That was a nice skate from Varvara, pity about the fall. Her coaches look happy & smiley. Who is the male coach?

This is even a bit more than she had at the RGP. I know that the BV for non‑jump elements became higher but it seems to me that RusFed is holding back GOE a bit at domestic competitions (while PCS are inflated).

Last season it was obvious esp. with juniors that scoring was held tight around the neck in Russia.
