2026 U.S. Nationals Practice Reports

I'm no "techie," so I am not going to comment on that. Doing my best to console moonvine re: Jimmy Ma's short program. Watching him in practice yesterday was just delightful. He is beloved by those who attended the practice session. May he skate lights out tonight!

Breaking news @elektra blue we have a US man skating in purple pants, white blouse and white skates. Ken Mikawa (JLB mentioned he has white skates because they were out of black boots and he desperately needed a pair. JLB told him to be brave and remove the black boot covers)

I like her free spirit but hoping that the highlights are a bit more subdued for the Olympics!
I LOVE Alysa’s highlighted hair! I love that she’s a free spirit who has fun and does everything her own way. I love her humor and endearing personality.

I also love what a nerd Amber is! Amber is more akin to my own personality, but I do have a sprinkle of Alysa when I feel comfortable in a safe space.

What happened with ilia in practice that had him considering withdrawing from the free skate I just heard about this during the after skate reactions on the blaze and banter podcast— I’m dying to know what happened. They referenced something going really wrong in practice, but said they “shouldn’t talk about it…??”

Hmm, I don’t know other than he’s breaking in new boots and made a staggering number of jump errors; it was the sloppiest practice I’ve ever seen him have, but he delivered in the FS when he needed to.

Ilia usually marks jumps in practice aside from the odd jump or two; maybe he felt he needed jump practice with new boots. For the life of me shouldn’t his team have insisted he work with a second pair of boots long before Nationals? I would hope he has a back up pair to these prior to Olympics. Me saying this with zilch knowledge of actual physical skating equipment… but, as my GS handle indicates, I believe in back up😺

He was not good in practice Saturday morning and left early, grimacing and shaking out his leg. When he pops out of his jumps, he kind of bails out in a dramatic way, and he kept doing that over and over.

However, I saw him in practice on Friday morning, and he looked absolutely fine. He was very methodical and after 10 min of slow edges, he does waltz jump, the full set of singles (Sal, Toe, Lo, F, Lz, Ax in that order), the full set of doubles, full set of triples, and then finally full set of quads, one at a time, one each. He only made 2 errors in the whole set and immediately corrected any issues on the 2nd attempt. He also ended with a 4A (step out)+3S just for fun as they were telling everyone to get off the rink, so I'm thinking it was just a bad day with the boots on Saturday (I'm hoping).

Basically, Friday was "Wow, he's a machine."
Saturday: "OK, I guess he's human."
