Well, the absolutely asinine decision from USFS and NBC to split every single event into Group 1 and Group 2/3 later in the evening has shown its flaws, like we all predicted. Chan/Howe are now in that first group which won't be aired on prime-time TV, even though they still have a good chance at making the Olympic team due to Efimova/Mitrofanov and McBeath/Parkman's citizenship issues. Chan and Howe could absolutely have a redemption free and skyrocket up the standings, but they have to wait hours to find out and might only get a shortened replay of their skate shown during the primetime coverage.

I find it so disrespectful and disruptive to the athletes to split the events like this. It prevents certain skaters from being aired live on TV, implying that the G1 skaters are less important than those in the later groups despite the fact that many fan favourites compete early on. Audiences connect not just to jumping ability but also to the charm of skaters like Erica Machida, Emmanuel Savary, Williams/Lewer, and Sonja Hilmer. The audience also has to buy separate tickets for the G1 events unless they have an all-day pass, which means that those G1 skaters might have a smaller crowd to cheer them on and fans on a budget may not be able to see every skater. From an athlete standpoint, it has to completely disrupt your warmup and training schedule. The athletes in G1 will have to wake up earlier for official practice, and may have not planned to be competing so early in the day when they were preparing for this event. US Nationals is the only skating event in the world that does this. It seems like an attempt to increase viewership for the average viewer because they only see the "good" skaters back-to-back, but it can so easily backfire when good skaters have rough shorts and isn't fair to the audience or athletes. I don't understand why they can't just start the primetime coverage at G2, show replays from the first group if people had strong skates, and also broadcast the entire thing live on Peacock with a World feed.

If the powers-that-be decided to ignore the first group, why not make the freeskate groups 2-4-4?

I agree that it's very disrespectful to the group 1 skaters to split the event. I like previous years where an alternate feed showed the full event while the TV broadcast might edit for time. I enjoy watching the first group! But even if they can't show group one on TV, the event itself shouldn't be changed. Maybe only qualify two groups to nationals if three groups is inconvenient? (hard eyeroll) Plan your broadcast to fit your needs, but disrupting the normal flow of a competition is ridiculous.

Hi everyone! Question: Does anyone have a link to the practice rink right now? Jean-Luc promised me (lol) atthe end of the dance practice that he'd be back to show the pairs warm-up. I don't find a link in peacock and I wonder if anyone else has one?

ETA: Never mind! I found it on youtube :)

Well they have moved me to club level which is further away but I can actually see better…I have to trade tickets before each event (very big PITA)..never can tell where I will end up. Gail is on stuffie duty. Thank you Gail❤️

*peeks in*

I'll be watching on Peacock, but technically I'm still working for 2 more hours, so if you don't see me, it's because a client dared to interrupt skating!

What's wrong with them? Interrupt important stuff? Duh... (I'm at work too, but chrome has this wonderful feature of showing 2 winfows on one screen)
