53rd Volvo Open Cup | Oct 31 - Nov 3

They were showing videos on a loop during the resurfacing. First up was a feature about a Judo tournament. Then an advert for a food shop. Then a compilation of clips from various skating competitions in Latvia to advertise buying copies of the videos. Then an advert for the host club, Kristal Ice. And finally an advert for some clothes.

But, watching the skating clips, the scary thing is that I can remember some of those moments! Like the reaction of Annika Hocke to her scores in the Junior Ladies SP at the 28th edition of the Volvo Open Cup back in November 2015.

And yet I can't remember most of what has happened in the skating I have watched this season! :drama:

Anyway, skaters are now on the ice for the Group 3 Warm-Up.

We could barely hear the music for Miriama SOSINA (LAT). But, according to her ISU Bio, it was "Butterfly" by Swingrowers.

And just to show how difficult it was to hear, I actually thought it was a remix of the song that was used as the theme music when ITV had the Formula 1 rights, "Lift Me Up" by Moby. :slink:

I think that was our first cartwheel of the event. 🤸‍♀️

Seeing Miriama sitting waiting for her results, she reminds me of a younegr version of somebody. But I can't think who.

She goes into 5th position.

Jolanda VOS (NED) wearing a pale blue dress. But in this case, only the skirt section was wishy-washy. The top half was actually really lovely.

Very familiar music for figure skating fans - "Experience" by Ludovico Einaudi. But, strictly speaking, it was Greta Svabo Bech's version with vocals, "Circles".

Skating wasn't bad.

Both Jolanda and her coach do not look happy at all.

She goes into 11th position.

Sorry, didn't get commenting about Taisia KRIVOSHEYA (LAT)

She was wearing a wishy-washy grey dress. But it was dark enough to not blend into the ice.

Ah, she belongs to the host club. Well, she is wearing a Kristal Ice team jacket, anyway.

She goes into 7th position.

Zlata RUDAKOVA (LAT). Oh boys. That was hot! 🔥

She is wearing a black jumpsuit, that could easily pass as a matching bra and trouser set.

Although she was wearing black rather than pale blue, I thought we were going to get an "Aladdin" programme. It just looked that sort of a style. But we got something more modern.

I enjoyed that!

She goes into 13th position.

Karina INNOS (FIN) was wearing a black dress, but it was a strange design. There was a plunging zig-zag sectionthe whole way down the front.

Now a bad skate. Yet, she looked like she was crying when she was walking between the gate and the results area. But when she got there, we saw she wasn't crying at all! It was just an optical illusion.

She goes into 6th position.

CaroLiza_fan

Valeria PRUTTSENKO (EST) wearing a purply-white dress.

Not bad.

My goodness! Hot coach with her. They look like they could be the same age! 😲

She goes into 12th position.

Oh, I mis-counted. I was expecting a resurfacing now.

Right, popping out a moment to gather up what I need for my dinner.

Not going to be commenting as much this group due to eating.

But, I just wanted to say that I love the dark pink of Adelija MATJUNINA (LAT)'s dress. But, the white sleeves and shoulder are kinda spoil the look of it. It would have looked better all pink.

Liked the music. And the skating.

She goes into 12th position.

Actually, I want to comment on Kira BARANOVSKA (LAT) too.

I remember this programme from the Solidarity Cup. It was to the version of "The Show Must Go On" where Ksana Sergienko does the vocals and Queen provide the music.

I loved this programme then, and I loved it again now.

It took 15 skaters, but we now have a new leader.

And I remember this programme from Zsofia SZEPLAKI (HUN) too, but this time from the Riga Cup.

She was doing a "Lawrence Of Arabia" / "Scheherazade" programme.

Not sure if the purple dress really goes with the music. But, hey.

Júlia Sebestyén sitting with her.

She goes into 9th position.

Don't know what Matilda KOPPEL (EST)'s music is because she doesn't have an ISU Bio. But, it was nice.

Lovely dark pink dress. And she skated well.

She goes into 16th position.

She is delighted with her scores!

CaroLiza_fan

Well, I don't have to go looking for an ISU Bio to find out what this music that Ilona van STEENBERGHE (BEL) is skating to is. It's "Vincent" by Don McLean.

"Vincent" always produces beautiful programmes. And this is no exception.

Although it didn't show any stars, her beautiful blue dress did put you in mind of a night sky.

She goes into 5th position.

Although she hasn't done any Junior GP's, it's not long since I saw this programme from Amira IRMATOVA (KAZ).

This was the last programme to be performed in the Junior SP at the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge at the start of October. And now it is the last programme to be performed in the Junior SP at the Volvo Open Cup at the end of October.

And both times, it was a beautiful way to finish off the competition.

She goes into 19th position. And is visibly disappointed.

Sorry for being quiet.

When Akims KIRILOVS (LAT)'s music started, I genuinely thought it was "Thriller" by Michael Jackson without the iconic opening notes. And I was thinking "appropriate music for the date, but the costume has nothing to do with the music".

As it turned out, it was a diffeient piece of music. A piece that I recognise, and am really annoying myself trying to work out what it is!

Oh. My. Goodness! When I went searching for his name there to find his ISU Bio and see if the music was on it (it isn't), I spotted the thumbnail for the video of his FS at the 35th edition, back in 2018:

I remember that programme!!! 😲

And look at him now, all grown up! :drama:

Where has the time gone?!

Anyway, today, he goes into 8th position.

CaroLiza_fan

Lucas FITTERER (GBR) was certainly Feeling Good out there.

Was it good enough to dispose fellow British skater Edward SOLOVYOV from the top?

Not quite. Into 2nd position. But only 1.18 points behind Edward.

Hang on. Can it be? Have we really got a British 1-2 with only one left to skate?! :jaw:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE EDWARD AND LUCAS!!! :cheer:

Oscar has new SB, good job. Step sequence was quite slow and shaky, so there is space for improvement.

Oscar OLIVER (POL) skated to a couple of versions of "Come Together".

He and coach Angelina Turenko look happy enough. Don't know who the bloke with them is, but he looks miserable! (It's not one of his choreographers, Ivan Righini and Lukas Csolley)

He goes into 3rd position.

Wow. A British 1-2 going into the Free Skate. Oh, I hope at least one of them can bring home a medal.
