2024 Denkova-Staviski Cup | Nov 5-10

The 2024 Denkova-Staviski Cup is set to take place Nov 5-10, 2024, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event will feature the Singles (Women and Men) and Ice Dance disciplines in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories.

It will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules for Single & Pair Skating, the Technical Rules for Ice Dance, and relevant ISU Communications.

I'm getting a feeling of déjà vu. I can't help feeling that I wrote these exact same words a couple of days ago in another thread...

The Entries / Results page for the ISU part of the event may not be up yet, but the Entries / Results page for the Interclub part of the event is:

There are a few names that jumped out at me that I recognised from watching over the past few years. Mainly skaters with the same surname as other skaters / sportspeople.

But, there are a surprisingly large number of British skaters, particularly at Advanced Novice level.

I'm not sure there is one. There is no mention of Sportity on either the event website, or on either of the Announcement PDF's.

Getting concerned because the Interclub part of the event starts tomorrow, and there is still no sign of Entry lists for the ISU part of the event (which starts on Friday). I know of one skater that is entered, but that is only because she told me herself!

There are actually two streams each day. A stream specifically for Bulgaria, which is free but geo-blocked. And an international stream, which is not.

As for prices, the individual streams don't actually tell you how much they cost. But, there is a package for the whole event, which is available for €15.

Well, that solves my dilemma over which event to watch this week. I'll be concentrating on Ryan and his Post-It notes.

I am pretty confident Marilena will be skating. She put a video up on her Instagram page at the end of September of clips of her doing her new SP at a show in Dubai. And her knee didn't appear to be giving her any bother in it. And she is now 7 weeks further on from then.

I've actually known for a few weeks that she would be competing here before she goes to Tallinn next week. But, I didn't want to say until it was official, in case I jinxed it.

After the couple of years she has had, she deserves to have everything go smoothly.

I bought the stream and watched the last two group of ladies, I won´t be able to watch the previous skaters before the stream is available for replay.

Marilena looked in good shape @CaroLiza_fan, she landed beautiful triple flip and triple lutz double toe combo, but had a fall on the axel. Loved the program for her, and the dress was really beautiful. Liked it!

Alexandra was sharp today, her leading score seems high but she really had a great skate today. I´m not sure she changed to a new SP, or if it was the dress that was new, but it was really nice, both the program and the dress. Her skate looked so confident, she landed a beautiful triple lutz to start, and then her 3T-3T with ease. I also noticed that she looked really fast on the ice today, i´m not sure it was the stream making she look so fast but I thought she would deserve a high score in skating skills as well.

It looks like Alexandra is getting really back to her old days form, if she can replicate this at Euros she could possible be top 10. I think it will depend on panels getting on her jumps but I thought her jumps looked cleaned today.

Very strong skating by the British skaters as well. I particular got impressed by Arabella because she did a triple lutz double to combo!

That is such a good thing to hear. Well, apart from the fall. But, hey. Ice is slippery.

Hey, did you see me mentioning in the IceChallenge thread that the dress is actually Gabbie Izzo's. She didn't do too badly yesterday either! So, I reckon that was a good omen for when Marilena came on just over an hour later.

After I finished eating last night, I came into the sitting room to get something. I still had the livescoring page up on the computer, and I glanced at it and saw that Marilena was on. So, I waited around for it to update.

53.51 is the best she has scored since 2023 Europeans (it's roughly the same as she scored there). So, that is promising.

Thank you for giving your views, not just on Marilena, but on the other skaters you mentioned.

I took a real liking for Kristen when she was featured in the BBC series "Freeze". So I was delighted to see that she was in 2nd in the SP.
