2024-25 Spanish Nationals

Thank you so much for starting this thread, @Walt FSHunter.  :points:

I was actually wondering a couple of days ago when the Spanish Championships were, but wasn't able to go investigating at the time, and then forgot.

You know, I was going to watch 4 Nationals today, but since this is starting earlier, and I have kids competing here (which I don't at 4 Nationals this year), I will watch this instead.

Thank you again

:thank:

Finally, we have skaters on the ice!

And commentary. Two female voices. The stream was misbehaving for a moment just after the talking started, so I don't know if they introduced themselves.

Please be aware that this is one of those streams that you can't pause or rewind when watching LIVE. But, it does get archived (well, it did last year anyway!), and you can then.

Not sure about the version of "Zombie" by The Cranberries that June NÚÑEZ ARDANZA (NAV) was using. It definitely sounded like Dolores O'Riordan's voice singing, but the music was heavily re-mixed.

She went into 7th and penultimate position.

I didn't like the way that the girl on after her, Enola POULAN (CAT), started off her programme by "doing a Loena", practically draping herself over the Judges. You're far to young for that sort of carry on, Enola!

But, when I went to check her age, I discovered something. She is actually Andorran, and competes internationally under the Andorran flag. But because she belongs to a club in Barcelona, she is down as Catalan here.

Confusing!

But, she went into 2nd position.

What a way to finish the second group! Blanca SALAZAR MARTÍN (MAD) was skating to "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

What a fun programme!

She goes into 2nd position.

So her club, La Nevera, now have a 1-2-3-5-6. Only the aforementioned Enola POULAN (CAT) from FC Barcelona is splitting them.

But we still haven't had a change of leader. Skater #1, Daniela LÓPEZ ROMERO (MAD), is still at the top.

Ach. Not the way that Nora CABEZUELO ESPADAS (MAD) would have wanted her programme to finish. She fell on her very last element.

Especially after her team-mate, Inés VÁZQUEZ GARRIDO (MAD), just went into 4th position.

Oh no. As soon as she finished she started crying.

Inés stayed in the results area for Nora's scores, and when Nora arrived, she gave her a big hug. But it wasn't enough to stop the floods of tears.

Nora goes into 13th position.

This is upsetting. The microphone in the results area was accidentally left open during the first half of the next skater's programme, and you could still hear Nora crying. And her coach trying to console her.

:ghug:

Has it really taken 1h 30m to have our first "Voilà"?!

Yep. But, we can barely hear it because the microphone was accidentally left open.

Noa FERRARI GARGALLO (MAD) slipped and fell just as the music built up. And she slapped her hand on the ice in anger as she was getting up.

It's actually nice to see somebody annoyed with themsellves. It shows how much this means to them.

Ah, they've noticed the microphone is open.

The scores were announced very quickly, to the extent that we were still on the replays, and so didn't see her in the results area at all.

She goes into 3rd position.

So, the La Nevera club skaters are now 1-2-3-4-8-10. And there are still 5 move of them to come.

Resurfacing time.

Can it be? Has a skater from another club infiltrated the Top 3?

Yep, Daria MOSKVITINA (MAD) from the Madrid Dreams club has gone into 3rd position. But, we still have skaters representing clubs in Madrid occupying the Top 6 positions.

Sorry, make that the Top 7 positions, because the skater after her, Mariam MATEO MARTÍNEZ (MAD) from La Nevera has gone into 6th position.

Actually, all of the skaters in this group are from Madrid clubs!

It just shows the influence that Laura & Javier Fernández, and Sara Hurtado, have had in inspiring kids to take up the sport. The part of the country that they are from is now the heartland of Spanish skating.

Bibian Esther NAVARRO RICALDI (MAD) from the Madrid Dreams club closes out Group 4 with our first "Hallelujah" of the event. Alexandra Burke's version.

She is wearing a pale pink and white dress, which is blending too well into the ice and some of the boards.

But, it was a beautiful programme.

She goes into 8th position.

Which means that we have skaters from Madrid clubs occupying the Top 8 positions, with skaters from FC Barcelona in 9th and 10th, and then 5 more skaters from Madrid clubs.

Well, when there are 33 skaters altogether, and 25 of them represent clubs in Madrid, it is hardly surprising.

The only skater from a club in the Basque Country, Naroa EGEA AMADO (EUS) from the Bipolo club, had an ominous start, with a dodgy landing on her first jump.

Absolutely gorgeous royal blue dress.

Awwww. I just realised she's doing a "West Side Story" programme!!! "I Feel Pretty" and "America"

Ach, she had a belly flop just after "America" started!

These scores aren't going to feel pretty.

Yeah, she goes into 23rd position.

It took 30 skaters, but we finally have a change of leader.

Adriana GERBER ARENAS (MAD), from La Nevera club, pushes team-mate Daniela LÓPEZ ROMERO (MAD) down to 2nd position.

I don't know if Daniela is one of them, but she has two team-mates sitting with her. And the three of them are surprised at the scores.

Now for the last skater that is not from Madrid.

CaroLiza_fan

Laia PUNTÍ BERTRAN (CAT) from the CEPAP club was skating to The Scorpions!!! 🦂

She is wearing a black jump-suit, with the whole of the back see-through. And a oval-shaped see through area on her right leg.

Although she had a fall, I really enjoyed that.

But, she goes into 24th position.

Now for the last skater. Yet another from La Nevera club.

CaroLiza_fan

Elsa QUERO MENÉNDEZ (MAD) wanted to rule the world.

Well, she didn't. She went into 17th position.

Boys coming out for their Warm-Up now.

We complete our Advanced Novice Singles SP double-bill by moving from the 33 girls to a group of 7 boys.

Livestream for the Advanced Novice Men's SP is now on air.

This is a bit more balanced. 4 boys from Madrid, and 3 boys from the Basque Country. And to make it even easier to follow, they are alternating! Madrid skaters have odd start numbers, and Basque skaters have even start numbers.

CaroLiza_fan

In the girls, the first skater was from La Nevera club and led until near the end of the segment.

Well, the first boy, Arturo ALONSO FERNÁNDEZ (MAD), is also from La Nevera club. But I'm not sure that he will.

Time for our second Basque skater of the day. But from a different club to the girl.

My apologies. I thought Asier GÓMEZ SERTUTXA (EUS) from the Anoeta Izotz club was wearing all black. But his shirt is actually maroon.

He was skating to a string instrumental of "My Heart Will Go On". But, near the end, a girl started singing. I don't know who she was, but she wasn't as good as Céline Dion.

He goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

The second and last skater from La Nevera club, David ESCRIBANO SALVADOR (MAD), was wearing all black (although most of his arms were uncovered).

And he was skating to "Highway To Hell"!!! THe real one, not a cover!!!

I absolutely loved that!!!!

He goes into 2nd position, behind his team-mate.

CaroLiza_fan

The second of the Basque boys, Gonzalo VALLEJO GARCÍA (EUS), is from the club that I always keep an eye out for, CH Txuri Berri, because that is the club that one of my kids belongs to, (Janire IDIAKEZ SAN JOSÉ, who is not competing at Nationals this season). Plus, the head coach is British.

Gonzalo is also wearing all-black, but his arms are covered.

A beautiful programme to "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi.

He goes into 3rd position.
