What I've learned over the years is to be attentive to things that offend some people. I would rather withhold a "laugh at someone's expense" for a hundred people while respecting one person's sensibilities than the other way around.

I keep trying to teach that to my Girl Scouts, encouraging them to be kinder to others. Also that an opinion different from yours is just as valid, just as important and since it is an opinion , just as correct, IT JUST HAPPENS TO BE DIFFERENT.

I don't consider it "humor at any cost." It wasn't that humorous in the first place. It was quite deep and thoughtful, actually. As for what it has to do with skating; well, we're in Off Topic forum, if you haven't noticed.

I'm sorry, but I'm just getting tired of all that Holier Than Thou attitude, and some people making us feel as if we were in a church, and a very strict at that. We are not in a church. Like I said, 90% of my friends and people I'm acquainted with belong to some religion, and I come from, presumably, one of the most religious countries in the world, and I swear, I've never met with such uptight attitude about religion. God is part of the culture, if you want it or not, and people have a right to mention him. Religious folks don't own him.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. If people get offended by innocent things like this, I guess they just want to be offended, and that is their problem. But I'm beginnig to see why some people might've not liked the "letter." Perhaps it hit too close to home? "It's like you're always looking for an excuse to be upset."

Looks like you're the only one getting offended here. Everyone else is either simply disagreeing with what was posted or explaining it's okay to disagree.

You mean, for the fact that I asked you a question you couldn't answer, and had to throw a fit and project your anger at me, to hide it? To tell you the truth, no, I don't believe you've forgiven me for that, and probably won't for a while.

As for the fact, that you think you need to forgive me for something, itself... I don't know if you've seen the movie "The Devil's Advocate." There's a scene, at the end of the film, where Satan says that vanity is his favorite sin. Well, if I were Satan, my favorite sin would be pride.

In other words, when God is speaking, good things happen.

In my 45 years I've heard at least a million "off color" jokes that I found humorous. I could violate a hundred board rules here telling some of these jokes and I suspect the vast majority would laugh.

My favorite sin is sloth. Nothing else comes close.

The best thing about serving as a moderator for this board is that we basically have nothing to do. For whatever reason, this board polices itself by the consideration that members show for each other, by the mild peer pressure that sets the tone in any community, by common courtesy, and by common sense.

Have you noticed that nobody ever cusses on this board? Why not? Well, we just don't.

We also try hard not to allow differences of opinion to degenerate into ad hominem attacks. There are plenty of figure skating boards where people like to be unpleasant to each other. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Mathman, have you seen "Se7en" (David Fincher's film, from 1995) by any chance? It's about a killer, who kills people who committed one of the seven deadly sins. All stories were rather unpleasant (now that's an understatement), but the sloth one was the worst. I saw it only once (and had nice dreams after it), and every time I saw the film later, I closed my eyes or went our of the room during that scene.

But I must say that the film itself is very good (not for everyone, though), even Brad Pitt stood up to the occasion. But the killer's role was the best. Interesting ending, too.

Yep, that's the one, but I think it was good, and if a film is good, it's worth watching even when it's gross. Hey, I liked "Ravenous", now that's a gross film! My stomach really hurt while I was watching it and for some time after, but Robert Carlyle and Guy Pearce were brilliant in it, so it was worth it. I even have it on video. "It's not courage to resist me, it's courage to accept me." It's directed by Antonia Bird, who also directed one of my favorite films, "Priest" (now I'll certainly go to hell ). I absolutely love that film. The direction and the actor (Linus Roache) in the main role were superb. Roache was really good in "Shot Through the Heart", too (it's a film about two friends, both competitive marksmen, who find themselves as snipers on opposite sides of the conflict in Sarajevo -- I highly recommend it). OK, movies it's the topic I really can't shut up about...

Mathman, one little squabble over the Internet and you start talking enemies? Nah. Couldn't imagine anyone taking themselves so seriously.
