Adelina Sotnikova

Right now she has one GP (besides CoR spot) or not? I can't remember....:hopelessness:

She doesn't have anything because she ended up out of the top 25 rankings and does not have a seasons best score. It was clarified on FSU that this was the last year she could have used her comeback status to get 2 gp events. She decided not to use it. I don't even think the Fed put her name in the pool to be honest. And she has not mentioned doing any Senior B assignments but the deadlines have not passed so its a long wait to see if she will do any. Right now she says her goal for the season is to do her best at Nationals and maybe EC/WC. With no qualifying score, she has no choice but to do an international event if she seriously wants to try for EC/WC.

True. I guess we'll see her when she's in top form. And we won't see her at Nationals if she isn't. I hope that she'll have her form early in the season, because if she doesn't the pressure will grow immensly.

Agree on all counts.

Thank you. That's interesting, I had no idea about all this. I wonder why she didn't use her comeback status because that is a bit suspicious. Maybe she was not fully fit yet, who knows...we'll have to wait and see. CoR spot can certainly be hers so the Russian Fed can wait till the test skate and see.

p.s. Adelina is confirmed for the Gala on the 14th. https://www.facebook.com/icerinkpin...9535367088968/950306668345164/?type=1&theater

Thanks for the info/link

and here's the info from FSU recapping what I said. Maybe she can still use her comeback status, in an earlier post kwanfan1818 says its 2 seasons but after the correction she says she can wait until later

To recap, she could have qualified as a return skater from her 9th at 2013 Worlds, and she would not need a GP minimum score to compete at 2015-16 GP. It's a one-time option. No spots are guaranteed, but she could have gotten up to two if she used the option.

She could have chosen not to use the option, saving it for the future, because she didn't want to be assigned to two and risk earning a spot at GPF, and/or because she'd prefer to skate in shows this fall, as examples.

She can be assigned to Rostelecom Cup without using the "return" option. She would not need a minimum score as a host pick.

She needs to earn the minimum scores for 2016 ISU championships, which she can at any Senior B/Challenger Series event in addition to GP, if she's planning to compete at championships.

Either way I am just happy she will be back skating. Not doing the GP's might be the best, as she would put too much pressure on herself.

Maybe they are still discussing when the best time point for that would be? :confused2: Maybe they're waiting to see how she does in all her shows/galas to get a better idea if it would be smart to do a Senior B in September, or October, or November, or December... I'd be a lot happier if she just gave some definite statements about her plans this season, but with Japan Open on her plate + the new SP for now I'm convinced enough she wants to come back.

I think that's likely. She spent a lot of time off-ice unable to train at all, due to her injuries. That's completely different to say, Mao Asada or Patrick Chan who took a season off but stayed in shape and kept on skating. Much more difficult to regain form and strength.

So maybe they are doing the smart thing, and considering long term goals?
Take it slow for now, be sure to regain full strength and fitness, and avoid further injury...?

Love this program on Adelina! As it is now, though, it's very much an EX and there's not enough actual skating. I hope w/e adjustments are made will address this by the time she starts competing.

It's a nice program although I really really don't like the dress. When she gets spinning or jumping it looks like one of those blue things you'd see in a car wash.

I think it's quite apparent that her strength is now in her dance step style interpretation. Hopefully she can clean up the figure skating aspects of her program because she can't make much impact without it. Its going to be intersting to see if she'll be able to get everything together soon enough for the competitive season.

I agree. This dress is a dance dress and does not work well as a figure skating costume.

Girl really knows how to perform; her smile and her energy are just so infectious! I can't wait to see this program in its full competitive glory! :)

 Didn't she wear this dress for her Burlesque EX? I thought it looked familiar. :)
