aggressive drivers

Does anyone else think that drivers are getting more and more aggressive as the roads get more clogged up with traffic? It seems that motorists are in so much of a hurry to get where they are going, whenever they believe they could get away with it, they are not stopping for red signs, or waiting their turn when making a left hand turn, instead they roll right up to people crossing and blow their horns. That one really bugs me. Because I patiently waits until my turn and start walking really fast but three times drivers waiting to make left turns just roll right up to me honk their horns. I saw on the news that at one school crossing yesterday the police gave out dozens of tickets, because the drivers are speeding and not even noticing the cops standing at the road side. LOL

I think most people drive like crazy now adays. Now having grown up in NY and learing to drive there and now living NJ my hubby who grew up in Cali tells me I drive crazy!! But if you go to Cali and drive Interstate 5 in Southern Cali between Los Angeles and San Diego, you will know that you don't usually go faster then about 15 miles an hour so driving any faster then that he would think that I drive like crazy.

That being said, I recently took a trip to upstate NY. I had to drive on the NJ Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway and the NY Thruway. I kept my speed to about 70 mph or so. The speed limit is 65. Anyway, people were driving past me like I was standing still. Now granted about 6 or 7 years ago one of those people probably would have been me but now I just slow down. I have seen to many car wrecks to drive fast and lost control on the highway. I rather get there alive.

Here is my favorite new thing...text messaging in the car. I have seen so many people do it. It takes me about 20 minutes to send a text message by the time I type it. But how do people do this in the car? I saw four people on 295 (if you live in NJ you know what road I am talking about) driving over the speed limit and text messaging!! One almost hit me. Luckily I was not in my car but a work car but still...how stupid it this?

Me personally I use the car as great excuse not to talk to people. In fact, sometimes I go out on my deck where there is noise and tell people i am in the car and say "can't talk, driving call you later."

it's so annoying and frustrating... road rage is EVERYWHERE and I think that's where most of the aggression stems from.

I had to laugh today. A car going north in a 35 mi hr zone was going at least 40 and I thought, where are the police when you need them, and lo and behold there was one and he got stopped.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I"ll say!! My new pet peeve is drivers who don't heed four way stop procedures. They just keep rolling though the stop sign even though you are approaching the stop sign. Also we have major construction going on our roadways and bridges. I hate the "cheaters" - as I call them - while everyone else has patiently or impatiently sweated through a narrow lane and waits their turn to proceed these selfish drivers speed up in an empty spot and try to jump the que. It really irritates me!! I try to block them from getting in ahead of me, but it does not always work and is sometimes not worth it.

I have the commute from - you know where everyday. Going to and from work.

Would I love to retire.

Had I seen the car ahead of me at Walmart, when I parked, I would have asked her (him) where he was from. He used his turn signals!!! So, he can't be from Kansas. If you go to a car auction, you can tell which ones are from KS as their turn signals have never been used!!!

Alaskans use turn signals... unless you're on the peninsula

another pet peeve - someone going incredibly SLOW (like 10 or more under the speed limit) that's just as dangerous.

Lucky for me my commute is less then 3 minutes.....so I dont' get frustrated when driving to work. But I do drive for my job on occasion and that is very frustrating!!

I love when cops pull peolple over. I was on the highway once and this guy was swerving in and out of traffic. I said to my family..this jerk is going to get into an accident. No sooner then I said that he swerved into the left lane, jammed on his brakes because there was a car there...the crashed the front end into the divider and then crashed the back end of the car into a divider. He wrecked the car...it was a 80's type trans am. When we drove by we clapped at him!! I know mean...but you just can't help it!!

I grew up in New York state and now live in NJ. I find the drivers in NJ to be generally worse than drivers from NY.

NJ drivers will not move into the left lane to allow someone to merge - even when the left lane is totally clear.

Another thing that drives me nuts about NJ traffic is that most people do not know how to drive around a traffic circle, and that's because each one is different. In some circles, people in the circle have the right of way and in others, cars entering the circle have the right of way. In NY state, cars in the circle always have the right of way - since it's consistent, people know how to drive in the circle.

I have to admit that I generally drive 5 to 10mph over the speed limit. However, I'm also willing to return the right lane or the travelling lane when someone wants to pass me. Some drivers won't move to the slower lane when they should, which drives people to pass them on the right. The other day I was on 287 where the speed limit is 65 mph. Someone was in the travelling lane going 60 mph. I even flashed my lights at him to try to get him to move to the right lane and finally ended up passing him. Whilst passing him, I noticed that he was talking on his cellphone without a handfree device - idiot doesn't realize that driving too slow can cause accidents, too.

I have noticed that when there are no cars around, I tend to naturally drive between the speed limit to 5 mph over. I think there's something competitive about not following someone.

Forgot to mention that people don't know how to merge. I work in Bridgewater, off of route 22. Cars have to make right turns to get onto the highway - no merge lane. Well, people either turn onto the highway and don't accelerate rapidly or the use the shoulder to merge onto traffic. There are a lot of businesses along route 22, and driving on the shoulder is a big faux pas since they are obstructing the views of other cars. Today, I saw a police car pulling up behind a car that had been driving on the shoulder , instead of waiting for the right lane to be clear.

I live in Boston - and our drivers fully deserve their reputation for the worst drivers in the country. By comparison, NYC drivers seem just fine!

In BC where I live, I have seen and experienced drivers whipping by me at 80 or 100 KM per hour in a 50 KM zone. They even speed through a 30 KM zone (usually a school or playground zone) which is about a $150.00 - $200.00 fine here if caught. I was most delighted one day while driving down River Road (a very narrow and twisty road) to see a policeman pulling over a speeder.:clap:
