Akiko Suzuki thread: a beautiful and brilliant performer!

I cannot express how happy I am that the judges are finally awarding Akiko for her amazing skating. Even though her performances at the GPF were not her strongest, she had a solid showing and earned her silver medal. I love her energy, her commitment to her music and choreography and her ability to perform, even through mistakes. She looked lovely out there (I love her new LP dress!) and I'm so proud of her.

I would have loved to see Mao skate at this competition, but I'm happy to know she'll be at nationals. Akiko and Mao are the top ladies for Japan now...I wonder who that 3rd spot will go to? Probably Kanako, though I really love Haruka Imai as well...as she grows, she will be another gorgeous skater to watch.
 
Such a solid and well prepared athlete. Have seen her live several times, including in Quebec and found her power is very balanced and inspires confidence in the performance. She understands music choice well, and is selecting styles which present her strengths.

Me too! I reckon she will have an automatic slot in the worlds and 4cc team
 
YuNa didn't invent it, either. I know someone who's 41 who's been doing it since she was a Novice lady (about 25 years ago)
 
People say the bent leg back camel is Yuna's spin, but I've never seen her hold in competition for more than 2 revolutions without losing control. She didn't even do it in her Olympic programs. Akiko here holds it for 8 revolutions, which is very good. Caroline Zhang held it for longer in exhibitions. Nonetheless, I wouldn't call it either a Yuna or a Suzuki spin. It's a simple camel variation, even novices do it.
 
I prefer the camel variation at 3:54 where one hand is in front and one behind.

Something tells me that we're going to be seeing a lot of Fledermaus programs in the future!

I don't think she's anything like Daisuke because she doesn't have his range and intensity, but that's fine. She's herself - that's plenty. I don't know of any skater who communicates the joy of skating the way she does. This program is a delight!

Tonya Harding and Josée Chouinard did variations as well. Though none of these are exactly alike; for example, Akiko's torso generally faces sideways while Yu-Na's is upwards.

Yu-Na never claimed to invent it but I would credit her with bringing this move back into the eyes of the larger skating audience, much like Michelle brought back the charlotte spiral. It was really timed beautifully to the music in Lark Ascending and Miss Saigon, and she made it her signature spin.

Back to Akiko, I liked her previous dress better, though her new one is beautiful too. I found the blue and white one wonderfully unique and refreshing and it felt like Akiko was going to soar into the clouds. :love:
 
I have to agree with Jaylee.

I loved her blue and white costume-I felt like she was so airy and she was bouncing gracefully across the clouds and the sky. I love her new costume as well, but I prefer the old one :)

I love the Yu-Na spin and the Suzuki spin! heheheh! They are 2 of my faves! There is also the Sochi spin done by all the Russian girls!

What a season!
I am sad she is not going to the 4CC because she deserves it and she could win it!

Good luck for being chosen to go to Worlds 2012 in France!

It's wonderful what she's accomplished this year. I hope she makes it all the way to Sochi and excels there.
 
If she sticks up till Sochi I think she would have established herself as one of the top contenders for the crown.
If she wins or medals in Worlds and retains her consistency she will surely be one of the favorites for Olympic glory!

She is truly an inspiration! I do hope she medals or even win the World title!
