Aleksandra finished 24th out of 36 in the SP, with a score of 52.63.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Still don't like this cover, but still think everything else about the programme is beautiful.

This is the best performance I've seen this programme since the Tayside Trophy, which was her absolute PB for the SP.

To the extent that I wouldn't be surprised if this surpassed it.

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And then:

Mmmm. Five points lower than the Tayside Trophy. I thought it would be closer than that.

But, still a new ISU PB for the SP. And she has taken the lead by 9 points.

So, I'm happy.

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Aleksandra had trouble landing the first element, the Triple Loop. She got -1.75 in GOE, and a full set of -3's and -4's from the Judges. But after that, it was faultless.

To be honest, I thought the score was a bit stingy. But, I suppose that is one of the things that happens when you are skating in the first group. They like to hold back so that they have somewhere to go for the later skaters.

She is currently 0.31 points behind 23rd position, Lara Naki GUTMANN (ITA), and 2.88 points ahead of her Baltic neighbour in 25th position, Anete LACE (LAT). However, since there are only 24 that go through to the Free Skate, Aleksandra is the last qualifier. Which means that if she moves, the only way she can go is up!

And there is a good chance of that happening, because all the skaters in what will be Aleksandra's Group of the Free Skate are within 5 points of her. The final skater to go in Group 1, Aleksandra's Dundee club team-mate Natasha McKAY (GBR), is only 4.44 points ahead of her.

So, here's hoping for a good Free Skate!

(And here's hoping that Simon Reed gets Aleksandra's age right today, after consistently saying she was 25 during the SP. She's only 23!)

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

The Senior Ladies FS is due to start at 18:38:10 EET (16:38:10 GMT). So 11 hours from now.

Aleksandra will be the 1st skater to start.

She is due to start at 18:45:40 EET (16:45:40 GMT). So 11h 7m from now.

Aleksandra finished 14th out of 16 in the SP, with a score of 44.37.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

The announcer had a bit of a stumble over Alika's surname.

Fall on first jump. But the second jump was nicely done!

Not a great landing on the third jump, but there was no danger of her going down. And then the camera lost her momentarily!

Everything else looked good to me. She is always good at the spins. It's just the jumps that can be hit or miss.

She looks frustrated.

Into 11th out of 13, with 44.37 points.

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Unfortunately, the livestream got set to private as soon as it finished broadcasting. So, I cannot do a detailed analysis by re-watching the programme with the protocols alongside.

The first jump was the Triple Flip, and she unsurprisingly got -5's from all of the Judges. She also got a massive -2.65 GOE, which halved the value of the jump.

I said the second jump, the Double Axel was nicely done. But it was funny looking at the marks given for it by the Judges, because they seemed to be less impressed as you went down the line. Judges 1 and 2 gave it +2; Judges 3 to 5 gave it +1; and Judges 6 and 7 gave it 0. I hadn't noticed a pattern like that before when looking at Protocols. Did how far the Judges were sitting from Aleksandra when she did the jump influence the mark they gave?

Now, I can't remember if it was because I was thinking about the hand down, or if it was because the camera had already lost her, but it didn't register with me that the third jump was a combination. It was a Triple Toe-Double Toe, with the hand down on the Triple, which was under-rotated. Consequently, this also got minuses all round. To be honest, I thought the Judges were marking hard, as five of them gave her -5, and the other two gave her -4. The GOE was -1.61.

Everything else was by and large alright.

Aleksandra is currently 5.86 points behind 13th position, Jade HOVINE (BEL), and 5.20 points ahead of 15th position, Sinem PEKDER (TUR). To be honest, with gaps like this on either side of Aleksandra, I think that, barring disasters, 14th position is already set in concrete. And the same goes for the two Turkish skaters in 15th and 16th.

The good thing about having big gaps either side of her is that it means that Aleksandra can concentrate on her own performance in the FS, and trying to get the best score she can, without having the distraction of what other skaters are doing.

So, here's hoping that she does that.

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

The Ladies FS is due to start at 11:45:00 CET (10:45:00 GMT / 12:45:00 EET). So 5 hours from now.

Aleksandra finished 3rd out of 15 in the SP, with a score of 53.96.

Unfortunately, the livestream was broadcast on Vimeo, which requires you to sign in. And although you can do it using your Facebook account, I was reluctant to share my details with an external site. So, I was not able to watch LIVE.

Fortunately, some kind people (including Aleksandra's fiancé) have already uploaded videos to YouTube.

There is a lot happening this weekend, so I'm not sure when I will have the opportunity to watch the video. But, once I do, I'll edit in a discussion.

Aleksandra is currently 4.10 points behind 2nd position, LEE Hae-In (KOR), and 1.31 points ahead of 4th position, Lara Naki GUTMANN (ITA). She is at the head of a group of 3 skaters, which is completed by Nina POVEY in 5th position, who is just 0.13 points behind Gutmann.

Although I am delighted to see Aleksandra in a podium position after the SP, I am concerned. She has two skaters breathing down her neck, and Stefanie PESENDORFER in 6th position is not out of contention for a medal either, being 4.68 points behind Aleksandra.

To make sure that she hangs onto the bronze medal, she needs to have a good Free Skate.

We know she can, so hopefully she will!

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

The Ladies FS is due to start at 11:00:00 CEST (09:00:00 GMT / 10:00:00 BST / 12:00:00 EEST). So 4 hours from now.

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:46:20 CEST (10:46:20 GMT / 11:46:20 BST / 13:46:20 EEST). So 4h 46m from now.

Aleksandra is due to start at 13:08:30 CEST (11:08:30 GMT / 12:08:30 BST / 14:08:30 EEST). So 5h 08m from now.

Aleksandra finished 5th out of 49 in the FS, with a score of 103.41. This meant that she dropped to 4th place overall, with a score of 157.37.

Unfortunately, the livestream was broadcast on Vimeo, which requires you to sign in. And although you can do it using your Facebook account, I was reluctant to share my details with an external site. So, I was not able to watch LIVE.

Fortunately, some kind people (including Aleksandra's fiancé) already uploaded videos to YouTube very quickly.

Aleksandra was wearing probably the plainest figure skating dress I have seen for a long time. It was all black, with a slit up the side on her left leg, which led to a small section of embroidery. And it was the most beautiful figure skating dress I have seen for a long time!!!

I don't know if it was the black dress, but the programme had a very sombre feel to it. And Aleksandra portrayed it beautifully. It was so emotional to watch that I got totally immersed with it. The only thing that broke the immersion was the fall.

That fall came on the third element, the Triple Flip. It was just an awkward landing on the quarter, and she went down. It earned her -2.65 in GOE and -5 from all the Judges.

But, apart from that, everything was beautiful. There were 3 consecutive elements in the second half of the programme that got all minuses. The Triple Toe and Triple Salchow were both landed on the quarter, and the Triple Loop in between them was downgraded. But, frankly, I was so caught up in the moment that didn't notice anything wrong with them.

It was great to see how happy Aleksandra and David Richardson were when sitting waiting for the results. They were chatting away like they hadn't a care in the world. And then how happy they were when the scores came through.

Being a fan of Aleksandra's for so long, I have seen many a time where she has been very down when waiting for her results. So, this was so good to see.

Aleksandra finished the Free Skate 0.99 points behind 4th position, Nina POVEY (GBR), and 1.28 points ahead of 6th position, Alena BUDKO (USA). They were part of a larger group where 4 skaters were covered by 4.69 points, which was headed by LEE Hae-In (KOR) in 3rd position, 3.41 points ahead of Aleksandra. There were big gaps either side of the group.

Overall, Aleksandra finished 7.51 points behind 2nd position, Lee, and 0.45 points ahead of 5th position, Budko. As well as the big gap ahead of Aleksandra, there was a big gap behind Budko. So, it was always going to be either 4th or 5th overall for Aleksandra and, fortunately, she got the higher of the two positions.

Although she has been competing for a very long time, this was the first time that Aleksandra had achieved a Free Skate score where the whole number was in three figures rather than two.

I know I am biased because I have been a fan for so many years, but after seeing how she got on in this event, I really do believe that this could finally be her breakthrough season in Seniors.

Aleksandra finished 3rd out of 9 in the SP, with a score of 54.21.

Analysis to be edited in when I get the chance to watch the video.

Aleksandra is currently 5.86 points behind 2nd position, Olga MIKUTINA (AUT), and 0.88 points ahead of 4th position, Natasha McKAY (GBR). Aleksandra is at the head of a group where 4 skaters are covered by 1.78 points, stretching down to CHEUNG Cheuk Ka Kahlen (HKG) in 6th position.

All of which means that Aleksandra has to be very careful not to make any mistakes, because all four of these girls are in a good position to deprive her of a medal. And Natasha in particular will want to get onto the podium, because this is the rink she trains at. Just like it is for Aleksandra.

That said, Mikutina is only 0.09 points behind the current leader, Eliška BŘEZINOVÁ (CZE). And Březinová in particular is prone to having disappointing skates. I know it is a big ask, but if Aleksandra has a very good skate, she could actually still win this.

Oh, it would be a dream if she could pull it off on her home rink.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Aleksandra finished 2nd out of 10 in the SP, with a score of 56.33.

Analysis to be edited in when I get the chance to watch the video.

Aleksandra is currently 0.06 points behind 1st position, Lara Naki GUTMANN (ITA), and 2.57 points ahead of 3rd position, Julia SAUTER (ROU). After this there is a big gap to 4th position, Nina POVEY (GBR), who is 11.77 points behind Sauter.

This is a very open competition. Any of the Top 3 skaters could end up winning the title. Of the three, Aleksandra has the hardest job, because as well as attacking Gutmann, she has to defend from Sauter. Gutmann just has to defend, while Sauter just has to attack.

The best tactic for Aleksandra is just to forget about the positions, and just concentrate on putting in the best Free Skate that she can. And then it is all down to what the other two skaters do.

Oh, I hope she does have a brilliant Free Skate.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

For the most part, that was beautiful.

Just after the half-way point, she had a fall. And on the next element, she had a bad element. But, other than those, the only issues were slightly wobbly landings on a couple of the early jumps.

I haven't seen the other skaters, so I can't try to guess where she might slot in. But, it looked good to me, so I hope the Judges agree.

She goes into 2nd in the FS, and 2nd overall. So, she is guaranteed a medal!!! It's just a question of which colour.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE ALEKSANDRA!!! :cheer:

Analysis to be edited in when I have the opportunity to re-watch the programme with the protocols.

Aleksandra finished the Free Skate 6.44 points behind 2nd position, Julia SAUTER (ROU), and 7.60 points ahead of 4th position, Nina POVEY (GBR).

Overall, Aleksandra finished 3.87 points behind 2nd position, Sauter, and 21.94 points ahead of 4th position, Povey.

Unfortuantely, the wait for that first win outside of Kaunas in over a decade goes on. But, these past two events have shown that Aleksandra is back to her best, and is a genuine contender in the Senior B's this season. I know I am biased, but I don't think it will be long until she gets to stand on the top of a podium wearing a gold medal.

Currently frantically trying to get last 2 groups of Ladies Short Programme finished and breakfast eaten before the Free Skate starts, so will write about SP later.

After retaining her national title, Aleksandra is back in international competition at the Universiade in Lake Placid, where she is representing the Lithuanian Sports University, Kaunas.

I take it this means she is doing a post-graduate course back home, as it is over 12 months since she graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle (you have to be registered with the University within the 12 months before the start of the Games).

The Senior Ladies SP is due to start today at 13:00:00 EST (18:00:00 GMT / 20:00:00 EET). So 6 hours from now.

Aleksandra will be the 18th skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 4.

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:26:40 EST (20:26:40 GMT / 22:26:40 EET). So 8h 26m from now.

Aleksandra is due to start at 15:34:40 EST (20:34:40 GMT / 22:34:40 EET). So 8h 34m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Unfortunately, Aleksandra had to withdraw from the Universiade due to injury.

Here is the announcement, posted around the same time as I posted the above reminder post:

https://www.instagram.com/p/CnZrNOGrM_H/

Hopefully it is something that will heal in time for her to be able to compete in Europeans. That said, I don't want to see her rushing back earlier than she should just to compete in Espoo, and maybe doing herself harm.

Whatever the injury is, it must have been something that happened in practice yesterday, because she is actually in Lake Placid.

Here is a video she posted on Thursday of herself on the ice:

And here is an album of photos and videos that she posted on Friday:

Finally, thank you to @Jumping_Bean for finding the announcement, and letting me know about Instagram now having a feature where you can pin photos / albums to the top of the page. I have been visiting Aleksandra's page regularly, and actually thought she had stopped using Instagram because, whenever I opened her page, I always saw the same photo and 2 albums. It never dawned on me to scroll down past them, so I now have months of posts to catch up on. :rolleye: :palmf:

Get well soon Aleksandra

Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy Senior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Aleksandra finished 9th out of 18 in the SP, with a score of 51.17.

Aleksandra is currently 0.01 points behind 8th position, Nina POVEY (GBR), and 0.83 points ahead of 10th position, Meda VARIAKOJYTE (LTU). All three of them are part of a larger group where 10 skaters are covered by 6.88 points, stretching from Lara Naki GUTMANN (ITA) in 7th position, 1.61 points ahead of Aleksandra, to Jogaile AGLINSKYTE (LTU) in 16th position, 5.27 points behind Aleksandra.

When you have this many skaters in such close proximity, anything can happen. If Aleksandra has a good Free Skate, she could move up a few positions. But if she has a disappointing Free Skate, she could drop considerably.

The Top 4 are definitely out of range. But, 5th and 6th are vulnerable to getting eaten up by the group if they do not perform to their best.

So, Aleksandra had better make sure she has a good FS to maximise her chances! ;)

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Ladies FS is due to start today at 11:00:00 CEST (09:00:00 GMT / 10:00:00 BST / 12:00:00 EEST). So 4 hours from now.

Aleksandra will be the 10th skater to start. So, fourth skater to go in Group 2 (and antepenultimate skater to go before the resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:53:30 CEST (09:53:30 GMT / 10:53:30 BST / 12:53:30 EEST). So 4h 53m from now.

Aleksandra is due to start at 12:23:30 CEST (10:23:30 GMT / 11:23:30 BST / 13:23:30 EEST). So 5h 23m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.
