Nationals... Yes, I'm nervous too - but hopefully there won't be too much expectation on him since he is still junior competing with seniors? If he beats a couple of them, surely that will just be a bonus? At least, I'll try to see it that way... Thank goodness, though, I won't be seeing it live!

But I'm fairly sure I won't be watching.... At least, it's best for my peace of mind if I don't - who knows about temptation, though? (Must Resist! Be Strong!)

Ah... Yeah... That's enormous pressure I agree. Especially when those 3 happen to be the best champions of all time.
But still if Sasha overcomes it, that would be wonderful. He has great potential.

I was thinking... Won't Urmanov feel rather... left out? Surely some similarities with him could be found as well - I mean, one wouldn't want to hurt his feelings. Also, what's one more Olympic champion to pile onto Sasha? ;)

Mishin still talks about Urmanov (as well as Plushy and Yags) when describing Liza and Sasha's training routines, so he shouldn't feel too bad. lol

So yesterday Sasha got his first ever hug from Mishin in the K&C, instead of the weird business-like handshake that usually takes place. Honestly, I was beginning to think that they have an awkward relationship since Mishin and Liza have no such issues.

Wow, this thread has grown so much since the last time I made a post here :cheer2:
First, congratulations to Sasha! First medal in major international junior competition! :cheer: An overall solid free skate that is ranked 2nd (despite that ridiculously low PCS), though I think he's capable of more :) (BTW, really sad to see dirty judging extending to the junior circuit.)
A single low score doesn't change what you are as a skater. Sasha, please keep focused on your own work, and steadily make progress to display more and more of your talent to the whole world.

Move on to Russian Nationals, where Sasha has a real chance to improve his placement from last year's. Part of me would like to see a quad included in his program(s), while part of me hopes that he will play it safe to ensure a good result, as the placement at Nationals is a very important criterion for national team member selection for the next season. It might be a little wiser to use some small local competition and Junior Nationals to prepare his quad for Junior Worlds. Well, just wondering...
 
Just wondering, has anybody seen a video of Sasha speaking (some interview for example) because I seem to find nothing.
 
There is one but I can't find it anymore. It used to be on Sasha's VK but he has deleted it. A news crew visited Yubileyny earlier in the year and Sasha was interviewed (but the video was mostly about Plushenko). Anyway, he doesn't sound like a child, both the tone of the voice and the manner of speaking. I will try to search for it, but not optimistic since I can't remember the title of the video.

I came across some comments by from Mishin (dated May 2014) about Sasha's development and his quad:

"- Petrov - the pupil of my wife Tatiana and Oleg Tataurova , now I began to train him more tightly. We are working on two quad - loop and toe loop. Loop is better, toe loop - worse. But for training , I see that he is able to master these two jumps. Interestingly, the transition to a new level the bulk of my students passed gradually increasing . Sasha And it happens like this: for a long time nothing happens , but then again - and it turns out. I expect that a qualitative leap in his place this summer . If we talk about the emotional side of his skating , then, in my opinion, it is on a par , if not stronger , in comparison with the rest of his peers.
Petrov - now your main hope in the work ?
- No, I have all the major . I do not give out any of his disciples."
 
Interesting his loop is better than his toe. Will Sasha be the one to make history and land the first quad loop in competition? (I'm still rooting for Yuzuru to do it, but I dunno if he'll be up to adding 4Lo to an already-crazy layout.)
 
Sasha training for the quad loop is exiting but at the same time makes me really nervous.
It might be just me but most skaters I remember who have trained for harder quads seem to be inconsistent.
Also he has a long skating career waiting ahead so don't want him to get injured.

Well, if he is forgoing the 4S and 4Z, I think just two types of quads is okay. Loop is his best jump so it should hopefully be fine.

Every single male skater in the senior field today is inconsistent, irrespective of their number of quads. The closest thing we have to a consistent skater might be Nam Nguyen. :laugh: I do hope the new generation (Nam, Adian, Sasha, Shoma, ect.) can inject some consistency back, but I don't think training 4Lo is going to hurt Sasha's chances. He's not necessarily bringing it to competition. It's early days still.
 
Actually, I think Sasha is one of the most consistent skaters around - he has, after all, performed consistently in seven competitions in a row - barring the fall in the GPF SP. If that isn't conistency, then what is?

I agree. He had only one fall across all the competitions he's been in so far, and has medalled in all of them. Hopefully this will continue as he has more and more pressure. :)
