Alexander Petrov

Well, I think that confirms no quad then - not that I doubted it anyway. If he has had gaps in trainig no way are they going to throw in a quad.

It's clear that he is eager to try, and it's Mishin who's reining him in. That's good. Far better than the reverse - it's clear he won't need any pushing when the time comes; if anything, I'd expect him to mess up simply because he's so ovexcited to try it.:)

Looking forward to the interview. Oh, and I loved them both in the K&C. :)

"Alexander Petrov despite the best result of the season, a rental estimate to "C grade"
28.01.2016 00:34:01 | Figure skating | Figure skating. European Championships 2016

January 27 in Bratislava (Slovakia) takes the European Championship in figure skating. Russian Alexander Petrov for the execution of the short program received 76.95 points, showing the best result of the season. Comment Alexander Petrov leads a special correspondent of the portal TEAM RUSSIA-2014 Boris Jodorowsky.

Despite the best result of the season, a rental estimate to "C grade", - said Alexander Petrov. - At the European Championships I wanted to gain higher scores due to net rental. Did not work out. There were blots on the road with a jump in the cascade, rotations unhappy, stumbled on the track. Somewhere something a little bit - and did not happen. I expected to score on 78-79.

Said the peculiar thrill beginners?
Maybe. Not to say that trembled before going on the ice, but any athlete who values his result, worried before the performance. Configurable as a normal start, and nothing extraordinary in Bratislava did not notice.

You debutant of the European Championship, but your coach Alexei Mishin - the master of his own shop. What kind of advice he gave before the start, to avoid excitement?
Any special instruction was not. The coach asked to go out, to do everything that I can, and leave with peace of mind.

How useful preparation for the European Championships was held in early January gathering in Tartu?
Very useful. I do not remember being in such good shape as after returning from Estonia. I was hit with poisoning immediately after returning to St. Petersburg. I was ill for a week. I tried to go to training, but in the eyes darkened.

How did you feel, speaking in a warm-up with Javier Fernandez?
Excellent. For me Fernandez - he is now the best of skaters.

How about Evgeni Plushenko?
Fernandez - the best of those who act this season."

He's very bold that's for sure. He does not mince any words in interviews.
And now that we know Sasha was struck down by illness for a week, it just goes to show how gutsy he is to go out there and still skate like that.

There are more details. Nausea, dizziness and high blood pressure. Geez. He only trained fully for about 3 days prior to departure to Bratislava. Which means when he appeared in the video we saw, that was probably his first full training session since his illness. He's still feeling he effects of it...

"Gathering in Tartu was very helpful. I do not remember that was in such good shape. But on arrival I was very much poisoned and literally fell into bed for a week. I tried to go to training, and still I had high blood pressure, it was getting dark in eyes, dizzy and nauseated,"- said Petrov told reporters.

"Right now, the feeling that I have a condition. Poisoning unsettled, mentally and physically, I was in the doldrums. Work full I started just three days prior to departure for the European Championship," - said the athlete.

Petrov rated his performance in the short program "at C grade."
"For me, evaluating good, but I would not say that they are acceptable to the European Championship, in my opinion. I set the goal to get more points - at the expense of pure steel. It turned out to pomarochkami, and rotations, I would not say that I everything turned out. "Kosyaknul" on the stage, such as rotations, too, stumbled on the track. In a little bit, and collected, "- says skater.

A third version of basically the same interview. You can see how different journalists transcribe things differently.

"Russian figure skater Alexander Petrov for the short program at the European Championships got 76.95 points, nearly two points improving his "season best". However, after speaking athlete admitted that it relied on the start for more.

How do you assess his performance?
C grade.

But to improve your score?
For me, a good evaluation, but I would not say that they are acceptable to the European Championships.

You set the task to earn more?
Yes.

Due to what?
Clean rental. And then I turned to the rental pomarochkami. And not all the rotations happen. At stage it was not ideal. It is expected that gathering a score 78-79.

Alarmed because of the debut?
I do not know. Perhaps other factors affected. I can not say that much worried. But worried. Any athlete care if values the result. But I set up as a normal start.

How is the preparation for the European Championships, as far as was useful to collect in Tartu?
Very useful. After him was in very good shape. I do not even remember when this was. But back home, severely poisoned. And just fell for the week. Exit to the exercise, high blood pressure, darkening of the eyes, dizzy and nauseated.

When you become fully train?
Three days before the European Championship. He collected everything I could, and tried to show here the net rental."

Meanwhile, another post from the photographer Tat Tat:

"Ratings put pressure, of course, but this is what I have to say, despite the fact that at the Russian Championships I saw Sasha rolled from the stands, but with a trump place, and then I liked him very much, and here - only broadcast, the impression is now even stronger than a month ago . I thought it would not happen! And the next bright performances of rivals - liked, but did not smear this impression - Artist and really great! A quad - will come.
Bravo! And performing arbitrary - just do everything as you can! I know what you can do - perfectly! GOOD LUCK !!!
(pictured Alexander Petrov during the execution of claims in the Russian Championship 12.25.2015)"

As you can tell, she likes him a lot!

Thanks, adelia! Especially for including the different variants of the same interview - quite generally it interests me to see how things can be edited differently, and come across, and what information is deemed important to include, and what not.

Anyway, our Sasha specifically. He's really brave, but we knew that. I think he can be really proud of what he achieved under the cirumstances, and yet I'm pleased that he isn't satisfied. It doesn't sound to me as he is overly self-critical, for that can turn out to be destructive, but rather that he knows that he can do better, and he wants to go out there and do the best he knows he is capable of every time. A very fine trait, indeed!

Well, since he won't be, we can be proud of him, and will be tomorrow however he skates, for we know he will go out there and do his very best, and fight for it! Go, Sasha! :cheer2:

Sasha should not be so overcritical of himself, for this is the best he can do at this stage. He has to move upward step by step.

I'm also pleased he isn't satisfied or indifferent about it, there would be a problem if he was. Because the fact of the matter is that he is certainly capable of better than this.
I don't think he's being too negative either, that's not his personality. As you can see from his instagram post, he is already looking toward the future.

Yes I'm proud of him too. Of how he held it together on the ice and how he conducted himself off the ice.
But part of me is a little sad that unlucky things like such illnesses (and it wasn't just a simple cold) keep striking him at really critical junctures.
And for this reason, I don't want to expect too much from the FS because I still remember last winter's heartbreak.

Oh my... It seems that Sasha getting ill before a big competition is forming a tradition... But I'm glad that he doesn't avoid telling everyone what is going on, all the illnesses, expectations, all that.

Anyways that makes me even more proud of him yesterday. He really fought well, as usual. :)

I think I should tell you all, that I was actually watching the competition with my mom (she is visiting me at the moment) and what she had to say about Sasha made me really happy. She thought that Sasha's arm/hand movement was absolutely beautiful and even though the spins weren't that fast, they were really nice and polished. About the jumps she noticed the good technique and the quality of the landing edge. So she saw a lot of positive aspects, of course there are things that Sasha still needs to improve but he has really strong basics.

For today's free, I really really hope he doesn't run out of stamina. Other than that I do trust that Sasha fights until the end and hopefully delivers a beautiful program whatever the end result might be. But as we all, I do have the horror moments from last year flashing trough my head.

I'm going to have tissues on standby for the FS, just in case his body really can't handle it. :sad21:

I'm pleased that your mum she noticed his best traits. :)
It's the combination of his refinement and good technique that I love.

Some comments on one of the Russian forums...

Poster:
"After sitting on this page [Sasha's thread at the forum], I can not disagree with the fact that Sasha Petrov looks great not only in Tat's [photographer Tat Tat] photos, but in others.
It seems that at every moment in his programs the guy knows where he is at, not just the arms and legs - but each finger! I rarely see this and I appreciate this.
Well, I want to see a program with the quad. Ultra takes a lot of strength. How will this affect concentration?
Success in the free program Sasha!"

Tat Tat:
"Sasha is impossible to spoil, it's true! :))
Really, he is very "continuous", complete - I have already written somewhere ..."

This is really one of the things that sets him apart from other skaters.

He was late to practice, another skater's music had already begun when he arrived. He also had problems landing his 3A.

Oh gosh, I'm really anxious now.

Edit:
It seems he tried the 3A twice and did not land it.

But there is a valid point that deserves to be raised. And it is this... Why was it that right after Mishin's group returned from Estonia, 3 of their skaters (perhaps even more, who knows) fell ill? Was it a virus or was there something in the food/accommodations that was unclean? This should be looked into. Because Jan to Mar is the most important period in the competitive calendar and they should make sure as far as possible that their skaters are in peak health condition going into this stretch. Whatever helpful training they receive at any camp would be immediately negated by illness.

So first of all, I didn't read the article or the comments simply because I actually don't want to. So I can't really say anything about it.

But to say that Sasha is lying about the illness… well it's a pretty big accusation to make. Plus, if he was lying it would make no sense to lie in such detail. People fall ill all the time so there would be so much easier ways to lie about it.
I do believe Sasha is telling the truth, as long as anybody can't prove otherwise.

I've never read/heard anything but positive things about Sasha's work ethic and attitude from people who know him in person - i.e. his coaches, fellow training mates and even a certain sports agent who isn't quite a fan of his skating. And he has never come across in interviews as someone who is verbose or tends to embellish statements. So if Sasha says he was ill, he was ill.

People who just want to be critical for the sake of being critical will find anything to latch onto.

Oh well. Too bad his dad couldn't travel with him, it looks like it's just Mishin who has gone to Euros with him.
