I don't think so because the flight tickets are paid for by the Federation. Either he has something to attend to like the gala or the Fed simply finds it easier to book all their skaters on the same flight out from Vienna.

Edit:
Hotels are also paid for by the Federation. He has to justify the extra 2 nights.

Well, maybe it's as you say about the Fed finding it easier to book all the tickets at once. But still, it does give him a chance to savour the experience - and I hope he thoroughly enjoys his stay.:)

Indeed. He seems to have many friends in this sport across all the disciplines so I'm sure he's enjoying this experience as you said. :)

Maybe he did get invited and they knew it. I just remembered this interview from mishin where he did talk about the Europeans gala:

"After a sensational third place in the championship of Russia Alexander Petrov said that it's not possible to go to the European Championship without a quadruple jump. He will show him it in Bratislava?
- He will show a fabulous exhibition number, which will go "encore". In it, Sasha reveals all the facets of his talent. Quadruple is in our approach, but at the European Championships will not take risks. To eat pies, they must first bake."

Of course online translators are not 100% accurate, but that sounds like he knows that Sasha will be at the gala... Maybe I'm wrong but I guess there is still hope so to say.

Yes, that thought did occur to me. But I couldn't tell in this case whether Mishin was simply expecting him to finish top 5 (and hence qualify for the gala). It's possible that he may have been invited, even though it's a small chance.

There's a press release of Liza taking part in the Sarajevo Open, so that's probably why they are flying back to SPB first instead of going direct from Bratislava to Sarajevo.
 
His schedule seems really tight but I guess I'm just glad he'll still be competing somewhere after Euros. Maybe he can do another senior B in March?

Hope so. And I hope in the next season he will learn quad which will be the same stable as his axel. What about his skating skills I already see improvements, and I suppose he will progress. The only thing that bothers me is his spins. He loses a lot of points on this. :(

Often the level is lost because he's short of half a rotation. He had no problems getting level 4s last season so I don't think it will be a big issue if his coaches pay more attention to it.
