Sasha is already in Beijing. He left together with the rest of the Russian team last night and arrived close to 10am this morning in Beijing.

That's good - hopefully that will give some time to acklimatise and get over any jet lag.

I wonder which makes him more grouchy, the cross-continental flight or the fact that the Chinese government is coming down hard on VPNs (the only way to access instagram in China).

Clearer photo of his new costume.
Looks to have been made by his usual designer, the person who did the infamous 2015/16 SP costume.
But this one turned out quite nicely (although personally I would have made the waistband higher so that he looks taller).

Let's never go back to yellow, okay Alex?

Well to be fair, I've liked most of Sasha's costumes - with Dat Shirt, I think that maybe the designer was just struck by an unfortunate fit of Artseeness. Let's hope it never strikes again.;)

I agree, the waistband a bit higher would have looked better, but still, a nice costume.

What I am most pleased with is the colour. He always looks good in red. I've waited so long for another red costume.

And if you want to be faithful to the original ballet, you cannot not have red in the costume.

Sasha attended the official practice session this morning. There's a LQ 3 min clip of his practice group on Weibo. Actually the video was Kolyada's run-through but Sasha did try two 3As and some choreo in that time too. He landed the first one, albeit a bit wobbly, second one was out of frame. Choreo was from his SP. He seems a bit low energy but then again he never really goes all out during practice sessions at competitions.

It came all of a sudden but I have a terrible sinus infection. Oh boy. And a 12 hour shift on Saturday. Which means I will likely miss the entire CoC schedule on 4 Nov. Double bogey.

But I have word from Chinese fan(s) that Sasha seems in good spirits, or at least he seemed fine in person this morning (or early afternoon). So this is good news.

Oh btw, he skates second in group 2 for the SP. It's in reverse order of World Standings I think.

Well, I would have said "take care & rest" - but clearly the resting is out of the question; so take as much care of yourself as you can - and thanks for all the reporting of Sasha news that you do, and keeping the rest of us so up to date!

Another clip which was cut from Vincent Zhou's run-through video.

He also attempted maybe three 4Ts during Zhou's run-through but two of them were mostly out of frame. The one that I did see he landed but maybe two-footed. The camera moved away just as his blade hit the ice so I couldn't see clearly.

Edit:
GS also has a photo of Sasha on their IG account. You have to slide to the second last photo in the series:

Nice photo (from last year's SC?) from his FS, although the left hand is cut off.

Rus Fed's official VK account posted profiles of the skaters taking part in CoC. In Sasha's profile, Tatiana Prokofieva, Yuri Smekalov and Ramil Mekhdiev are listed as his choreographers. I've mentioned Ramil a few times already in this thread but Smekalov is a name new to this thread. He's a famous dancer/choreographer with the Mariinsky Theatre. I've heard his name mentioned before with a few other of Mishin's male skaters.

68.somethingsomething. I don't remember.
Anyway, I don't understand why he is instructed to latch a rippon 2T onto the failed quad when the obvious thing to do is to attach a 3T to the 3Lz in the second half. I know rippon 2T is the safest option but he loses so many points by not going for the 3T. It is so silly and strategically unwise. He has nothing to lose after not landing a clean quad.

Pity on the 3A, it was big. If only that had been landed cleanly. But maybe he couldn't quite control the landing because of the height of the jump.

Overall, Mishin seemed pleased. Which can only mean that Sasha skated better than he has been doing in practice.

I guess you could say that I'm pleased with the performance (although not with the score).

If marks were given out for the best dressed/best looking male skater on the ice today, Sasha should surely be ranked 1st. I will not be accepting rebuttals on this statement. The truth is the truth.
