Alexandra Trusova switching from Tutberidze to Plushenko

I don't see how Usacheva and Khromykh will be serious contenders for Olympic spot in Eteri team. Now when Zhilina left - does anyone here know which remarkable younger novice girls are in Tutberidze group? Adelya Petrosyan?

Usacheva if she gets the 3a i bet she will be considered the new Kostornaya, Khromykh could get the quad sal stable and do it twice.

Petrosyan seems a hard worker but looks unrefined, both her and Akatieva's jumps were a bit overmarked at Junior Nationals.

Ultimately it all depends on how the current seniors will last and how the juniors will improve.

At the beginning of the season many people didn't see Daria and Maiia as a threat, because they were "too weak". At the end of the season, Maiia narrowly didn't win a medal at junior worlds but defeated everybody apart from her team mates and Alysa (incl. two very strong korean girls) and gained quad. So far didn't land it clean in competition, but we have seen it clean even during the warm-up immediately before the competition. And Daria, who was also considered weak, gained even silver medal and defeated even Alisa. She has stabilized her jumps much and her 2A is very good, she has very strong potential for the 3A. She will be a strong competitor whether she will stay in Khrustalnyi or the rumors about her will turn true.

I don't consider them weak of course but also not so extra special. Time will tell if they will nail quads or 3A in the future. And - as we see with Trusova - even quads don't always help.

It is striking that she and her parents were already shopping around for coaches during Russian Nationals. Which means 1 bronze and she's out, which is very presumptuous of her.
Why do you assume this is came from her and not her parents? I know that she’s given interviews were she talks about getting rewarded for each new jump. Which in itself isn’t bad, but shows the parents are clearly very invested in her career. Her dad was also a competitive athlete, right? The parents may very well be the ones dissatisfied with the results. Overbearing parents who repeatedly change coaches against the child’s wishes happens all the time in the US.

Thank you, (ETA: and also @NanaPat's comment about Anna, which I just saw) and I apologize to Sasha. It's difficult when one's knowledge of the ladies is limited:). But from what I have seen of the choreo for Eteri's skaters, it seems frantic to me. Then again, my taste in programs and skating is obviously different for those who know my favorite skater and choreographer;)

Then again, I think Rohene would do wonderfully for any of these girls, as any good choreographer is capable of adapting their style to the strengths and weaknesses of their skater. I doubt that will happen, no matter the coach.
It is frantic but it’s designed to win rather than be aesthetically pleasing. I hate this criticism of Daniil, they’ve mentioned so many times that they calculate the maximum number of elements to add for transitions to increase scores because in many ways it’s a math equation.

Would I love them to hold some of the beautiful positions and do less leg kicks? Absolutely. But one of the reasons they win is that they are focusing on the scoring system at present and designing programs around maximizing scores with artistry second as it’s subjective. They purposefully pack as many moves in as possible and this will change if the scoring criteria change or if the judges no longer reward them.

But Daniil choreographed 4 medal winning programs for junior worlds and what most likely would have been 6 medal winning programs for seniors this year based on the other major competitions. For 3 years running he has before he basically choreographed the top 2 winning ladies programs in juniors and seniors. Yes the athletes are a huge part of this but their team is clearly doing something right in terms of programming to gain medals.

The race to claim new, original music and OST from their rights holders has almost been run. Most big names have laid their claims.

The commercial choreographers will be overbooked once ice is re-opened and all the skaters suddenly are called up for competition. They'll have to prioritise. Either Trusova is to spend (two?) weeks abroad or this renowned international choreographer has to work with her in Moscow for (one?) week? I doubt Plyushchenko will want to leave any trail of Turberidze's in the first new program his commissions for his star student. Otherwise its copy catting/plagiate, isn't it?

Daniil Markovich has all the athletes at hand all hours of Khrustalniy, knows them very well by character, their skating strengths and weaknesses, and can draw on his huge experience and excellent resume and rapport with the judges and professional critics.

I have full faith and confidence in the artistic tandem of Gleikhengauz and Tutberidze, and do in fact like most of their work. Their 'brush strokes' or 'master's touch' in matching artistry and athletics pleases me.

it is mind-boggling. Everything was going great she was never injured Sasha was dominating the Juniors the best Junior girl ever without question and wins her first two grand prix events then has a bronze at Grand Prix final and wants out. Damn she is hard to please.

Right now to me Sasha is great when things are working but if a couple things go wrong she folds a bit. Can that be changed before it's too late? It's up to young Sergei and the GOAT to work on her mentality as well as everything skating wise. To mei aliona and Anna are much tougher mentally than Sasha is and that to their advantage over her in these very close super tough competitions they have now and will have in the future. I also think a big problem here is the media attention for Sasha's superlatives her record-setting quads and people here saying she's going to be the greatest and her little brother saying she was going to tear everybody apart. I think all of that adding up was just too much pressure for her. Hopefully Sasha can settle down at the Plushenko Academy find her groove and. Greater consistency and be happy there.

Of course Sashas former coaches are upset and disappointed but it works the other way too. Daria Panenkova had two choices to go down to the lower level group with the Eteri kids or to leave. She chose to leave. Eteri has a lot of students and she can't please everyone and most of them fail like I did with baseball. The odds athlete's face against them are just unbelievable. All of the guys and girls we talk about here are to be appreciated even though they get criticized a lot what they do is absolutely phenomenal.

Very cute humor.

Whereas, of course, it is exemplary when Alexei Zheleznyajov publicly accuses his 15-year-old ex-student of treason and assures her that she is simply no longer exist for the team.
It's absolutely deplorable for any coach to accuse their students of anything. Buyanova was unnecessarily vicious to Gubanova after they parted ways last summer. But maybe these old-school Russian coaches don't understand anything else because as pupils they were probably treated very harshly verbally by their coaches. Perhaps they are just repeating their coaches style to their pupils. Times have changed so should these coaches and I include EG in that.

Since Eteri has a spot vacant can she take in Sinitsyna. That girl needs a top rated coach. She is already getting good PCS with Eteri she'll definitely hit 35+ and 70+ easily.

That would be fascinating because that girl is a really nice skater but very emotional. She may clash with Eteri.

well... only russia drama can beat Covid news

I don't know if I' m surprise or not .. I was expecting one of the 3A leave Eteri's ... at the beginning of the season my beat was on kostornaia .. but she got a great season and at this point she only needs a 4 and Eteri's is the best pushing skaters ...
I think at this point .. if trusova is leaving probably kostornaia have a 4 and Shcherbakova a 3A or a new 4 ... and with that she can't beat them staying with Eteri's.. . trusova loves her 4 and Plushy can give her the stability to land them and love them to .. and give her nice spin's ... if he is the better choice for polish her .. We will see but if she lands all the 4 with beautiful landings that won't be necessary

I don't think Sasha with her personality is someone whose opinion can be disregarded in such major changes in her life. Which does not mean that parents haven't played a significant role.
Sasha was obviously dissatisfied with her results, satisfied happy skaters don't cry. She was also doing better at competitions without Eteri than with her which suggests a loss of psychological contact between her and Eteri, not just her parents' unhappiness. Eteri's magic of preparing skaters for competitions psychologically obviously wasn't working on Sasha any more. Exactly what and where went wrong we don't know yet and may never know.

Of course it was a family decision. No parent can force a child to win medals, it has to come from within.

Good heavens Russia is going to need 6 spots in a few years! ;) Or split the country up like we have in America with some of our state's have an East Russia and West Russia like we have a North Carolina and South Carolina and a North Dakota and South Dakota. :)

Oh, I have no doubt they have a reason for it, and the judges reward it, so I’m not blaming them. It is odd to me that the men, who have been skating quad-packed programs for some time now, appear to have less “busy” (and maybe that is a word I should have used rather than frantic) programs, so maybe that will come with time with the ladies.

I am afraid I must disagree that winning medals makes choreography “good”. But that may be a matter of definition.

.... the transfer window is still open ....

allskaters.info apparently keeping a close watch and having insider leads on transfers?

Rukhin's fate was on the block for a while, it was only a matter of time.

Can someone explain what Rukhin did when he worked in Eteri's camp? Was he mostly responsible for technique or artistry or dance?

Answered my own question. He is a jr man. I thought he was a coach.

I don't find it mind-boggling at all. In one season she went from being #1 (junior) in the world to being #3 (senior) at her own rink.

Did she want "out," or did she want a fresh start?

I agree. The criticism should be directed at the scoring system, not at the choreographers that are constrained by it.

This makes me wonder if choreographers as a whole are lobbying behind the scenes for the proposal regarding an "Artistic Program" and a "Technical Program."

On the other hand, my hat is off to those artists (both choreographers and performers) who can take a list of required jumps, spins and step sequences, and make a program out of it.
