Alexandra Trusova

Her performance was incredible and very clean with 2 quads :agree:
I'm pretty happy they removed the 4 Lutz. Some falls on this jump seemed pretty tough this season and it still doesn't look consistent enough for this one.
I wonder what she will do for the world championships. I would prefer that she play security personally. But her courage and risk taking make her being the one we know after all :hap10:

What are the boots and blades Trusova uses?

Aleksandra is of slender built, about 150 cms at 40 kgs, all muscle, the ideal height/weight for a girl her age in high level sports that require agility and jumping power.
But she also needs safe and stable landings, tight turns and precise control, and this is provided by her skates.
She skates on traditional blades with the long heel and what seems like the normal 8' rocker, while her probably lighter male companion Samsonov skates on those high tech blades with the triangular supports that are said to provide extra flexibility.

No doubt, given Aleksandra's undisputed status as 'The Quadster' boots and blades manufacturers will be eager to add her to their portfolio of endorsees.

Agreed. Her best results this season have been when she has played it more conservative in the FS. With the new GOE system it just isn’t worth it to try a lower success rate jump, especially when it ends up interfering with her ability to do good 4Ts after a heavy fall.

40 kils is like 85 pounds right? She is all muscle. Lets hope puberty is kind to her and she doesn't go from weighing 40 kilos to 50 kilos in the next year or two unless she grows a few inches in height..

Is she 5 feet tall yet? Sasha looks an inch or two taller than Anna and Alena when they're standing next to each other.

I still can't get over the thought about how great of the gymnast she possibly would have been, if she picked WAG instead of FS.

She could have been a star there as well. However, as much as I love (Russian) gymnastics and Sasha I'm so glad Sasha competes in Figure Skating where she can make history - continue to make history, that is. In gymnastics, the current Russian training methods are much more lax than in Figure Skating. Russian gymnasts are known to be beautiful but generally inconsistent, and Russian gymnasts are never the one's who come up with ultra difficult stuff. Everything Sasha is in Figure Skating (an innovater, strong, consistent, powerful) is what the American's are in gymnastics. I fear Sasha's potential could have be wasted in Russian gymnastics. So, in short, Sasha and the sport of Figure Skating belong together.

I hope Irina Viner isn't somewhere around...

agree on everything! :agree:

All figure skaters would make fine gymnasts by work ethics alone.

Russian artistic gymnastics today isn't what is used to be compared to even 10-15 years ago, when Arkayev was still in charge, let alone the great USSR era.
Russian rhythmic is still top of the world (BLR and UKR are barely hanging on) and rhythmic gymnasts have equal star status like Zagitova, with media appearances, high profile endorsements, photo sessions for fashion labels, etc.. (Lots of the rhythmics are of Tatar descent too, btw, making for that exotic look that sells well)

Legs and core strength of any skater would be sufficient for gymnastics. Upper body, shoulders and arms (inflexors mostly) are better developed in artistic gymnasts due to the tumbling and handstands, swing and release elements in the asymmetric bars. Flexibility can be worked on, no doubt the skaters have basic gymnastics stretching and conditioning twice a day.
Never underestimate the strength and stamina of rhythmic gymnasts, they work their routines mostly on their toes.
My ranking would be FS << AG << RG. Rhythmic is the most difficult because of the insane flexibility demands, the 'body image requirements' but most of all the hand apparatus. Handling one or two pieces independently while performing all those moves on the mat at speed without pause requires great dexterity. Clubs especially are a very dangerous piece of apparatus to handle, bruised skulls, smashed teeth, noses and cheekbones, broken wrists are not unheard of when handling clubs or failing to catch a throw.
Then there is group routines with 5 gymnasts handling at least one piece of apparatus each. Here the individual has to be integral part of the whole unit and have about 5 pairs or eyes fixed on everybody and everything in motion.
Lets not forget sports acrobatics and circus schools, those are popular with Russian children as well, and have much in common with the other artistic sports. Ballroom dancing and free style/contemporary/jazz dance are also popular, as are aerial gymnastics on pole and silks. Finally there are the classic and highly prestigious ballet academies, where the amount of work and dedication required puts most other sports to shame.
Lots of opportunities for any parent to put their children in motion also, and there are hundreds of clubs in all other sports available in Moscow alone.

FS and RG have in common the athlete needs to think on her feet and make very quick decisions regarding routine composition, element value and connection bonuses etc. Artistic is very much done on auto pilot and muscle memory since the routines are much shorter.

I think any gymnastics trainer would love to have a girl like Trusova on their team: strong, resilient, fearless, boundless energy, high spirits, smart, quick witted, always eager to work hard and fiercely ambitious of course. She is a force of nature!

But let Aleksandra best stay on the ice, driving quads, jumping quads, she is The Quadster ;-) We love her as the ground breaking figure skater, she is a Visitor from the Future.
