Alexandra Trusova

It may be not well too politically correct to say but I almost could hear the Board clenching their teeth and gnashing when they calculated the total Sasha's COP.

She placed 5th in absolute score among both male and female skaters. Were her PCS factored? If so would be interesting to refactor SP and FP PCS back to male skaters' factor to compare.

From Aleksandra's interview:

"Today, the quadruple Lutz did not quite work out, I would like, of course, to jump it cleanly. With the Rittberger - I don't know why I fell.
In principle, I do not make mistakes in my free program, in training I always skate it cleanly.
You just need to work more on jumps, on skating, spins, on everything.

But I feel that I am advancing and will continue to do so. I really wanted to jump a triple Axel at these competitions, I had this goal from the Test Skates leading up to to this stage. Not quite succeeded so far, but I am content.

At the training camp in Novogorsk, before the Test Skates, in training I made many attempts to jump the triple Axel, fully round, everyone said that I was close, but I could not land it cleanly. I don't know what exactly clicked later, since I really practiced this jump every day, jumped Axel, Axel, Axel. And when I felt it, it became easy enough already.

I have always enjoyed jumping, learning and doing difficult jumps. And so it remains: jumping is my favorite element of figure skating. But now I really started to like sliding too, we do a lot of it. I train as always, and then additionally, individually. I even tried to skate in pairing together with Dmitriy Sergeyevich (Mikhailov) , Filmed a clip. But, to be honest, I don't understand how people skate in pairs. It was interesting though. I really pay a lot of attention to sliding right now, trying to do my best. In everything ...

This season, the programs I have are the way I wanted. Short - slow, I dreamed about this for a very long time. The program is about spring, when everything comes to life, the first flowers bloom, when leaves appear on the trees. It's like the birth of something new. And in the free program - to the music from "Romeo and Juliet", here I am not Juliet, but the evil fate, the evil fate of love, the music is therefor so selected. There will be a new dress for this program. At these competitions I skated in what we were preparing for the World Championship. But it also had to be redone a little. I have grown …

At these competitions, my goal was to skate cleanly. I haven't reached this goal yet. But I will try. I need to do a short program with the triple Axel, the free program - I don't know yet with how many quads, but I will try and improve".

And if she can get it solid, a 3A is worth more points than spins! In men's singles you rarely see beautiful spinners who can't get a 3A down make the cut for national teams if the country's field is stacked. Plus, spins can be developed over time - again, many men known for terrible spins (e.g. Brezina, Joubert) managed to improve their spins later in their careers. Not amazing like Brown or Sadovsky, but ticked the boxes without needing a lot of flexibility (fast, centered, fulfilled level requirements). Sasha can basically compete with the men so she can use the same strategies as them - jumps first, spins later :D
I’m new to forum and watch figure skating for enjoyment mainly. I’m fan of all skaters. The time and dedication from a young age in my opinion deserves respect. Sasha skating seems smoother this year. Quad toe combination is beautiful. I like music but I think this could be great figure skating music. I’m so happy to be here and Sasha did good😊

She doesn‘t have to try and win on spins, it‘s right that this will not happen anyway. But she should not lose points on levels and this is an relatively easy fix, especially compared to another ultra c element in an already crowded FS. Spins and steps aren‘t too many points in the grand scheme of things but in the end, it‘s the small things that can make the difference. And especially if you‘re competing against skaters like Shcherbakova and Valieva, who always get level 4s. She tried to rely on outjumping everyone last season and it didn‘t work. Now she‘s focusing on other areas of her skating, too and I‘m glad. She doesn‘t have to be an ice princess! But developing her performance ability and skating skills is a good idea. And spin levels should be included in that package. But that‘s just my opinion.
Well, how could we know that it is an easy fix? If it were, I am sure it would have occurred to the team, given that they focused on SS. I mean, it could be as simple as she cannot have more flexibility, or better spins and maintain the jumping volume. The amount of work her body can give is finite, both in training and in competition, and clean 3A cannot be disputed.

There is no shortage of ladies who could spin in figureskating.

There is no one with both 3A and multiple quads. Without the Russian Cup bonuses, she will be competing on a more even field. It’s sport. One day she’ll be able to out-jump them, the other day they will overvalue her competitor’s spins or whatever.

Wish I could see that clip :D If she means they practiced skating with hands held/in a dance hold, then her view isn't surprising... Would be really hard with their height difference! I'm glad Sasha has no desire to switch from singles :p

I thought Mikhailov was an ice dancer? I doubt Trusova is a perfect fit for ID, heh.
Yeah, for the last few years at least. Interestingly he was a singles skater coached by Zhanna Gromova at CSKA before (you can see him in old group photos along with a young Radionova)

Refactoring PCS, Sasha would score 267.17 among the men, placing her first by a margin of over 11 points. But of course, such a comparison still isn't fair since ladies are not allowed quads in SP. ;)

What again was the reason for Aleksandra to transverse the whole of Moscow daily? To have sliding practice with an experienced ice dancer (he/she, who name I have forgotten, sorry)

Getting a new touch/execution to some of your most basic skills is a lengthy process, I remember Gleihkengauz from an interview explaining after his switch to dance, his trainers made him stroke round the rink for hours to get the feel of those edges, to re-program the muscle memory.

She used to travel to have extra skating skills lessons with Maria Borovikova (choreographer/skating skills coach in the group of Denis Samokhin. His current students include 2019 JGP ice dance champions Kazakova/Reviya). It sounds like she added those extra outside lessons lately while in Sambo-70 and carried on after moving to AoP (but to a lesser extent, since coaches like Ilinykh and Mikhailov work on skating skills with her a lot too)
